Hungarian harmonica player Mátyás Pribojszki is no longer unknown in the Netherlands due to his many performances here. In his musical career he is known under both his own name and under Jumping Matt. With guitarist Ferenc Szász, who was also part of the Mátyás Pribojski Band, he also forms the duo Grunting Pigs. Their first CD “Grunt Away” was released in 2016 and was well received everywhere. The duo recently released their second album, entitled “Having A Party”.
Nine of the twelve songs are covers of classics and the other three are their own compositions. On three songs the gentlemen are assisted by a number of musical friends. For the rest they do it all themselves. Because the covered songs are of very diverse origins the CD is also very varied. For example we hear the r&b of Smiley Lewis, the soul of Sam Cooke, the country blues of Mance Lipscomb and Arthur Crudup and city blues of Jimmy Reed. And this alternates with the European blues of Ripoff Raskolnikov and the gentlemen Pribojszki and Szász themselves. Songs that in my opinion deserve a special mention are the country blues “Sugar Babe” (M. Lipscomb), the smooth “I Don’t Go For That” (J. Reed), the very beautiful own composition “Dog Without A Bone” and the best of the CD - “It’s Not Easy” (R. Raskolnikov). The title says it all, because this CD is without a doubt a party. /BarnOwlBlues
