A historic venue, a hometown crowd and one of Europe’s most electrifying blues bands. Live At Hotel Cecil captures Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado at their most powerful - live on stage in Copenhagen. The album was recorded at Hotel Cecil, a historic venue in the heart of Copenhagen. Built in 1936, the building originally served as headquarters for the Danish women’s rights movement. Today its Art Deco atmosphere and smoky club vibe provide the perfect backdrop for an evening of blues, soul, and roots rock.

The recording took place during a sold-out concert on November 29, 2025, at the end of the band’s House of Sticks winter tour. That night, the eight-piece band delivered a performance that perfectly captured their powerful live reputation. “Hotel Cecil is intimate,” Risager explains. “It’s big enough to create a powerful sound, yet small enough to really feel the audience in the room. That pushes you to go deeper, both musically and emotionally.” The singer still thrives on the anticipation before stepping on stage. “I need that focus before a show. We approach every concert with respect. It’s not about recreating the record exactly - it’s about creating a moment that exists only that night. I hope people leave with more energy and feeling lighter than when they arrived.”

Live At Hotel Cecil features a strong mix of recent material and well-loved songs from the band’s catalog. Tracks like “Said I Was Hurt” and “House of Sticks” come from their 2024 studio album, while others - including the uplifting single “Hold My Lover Tight” - reach back to earlier releases such as Change My Game from 2017. Driven by a tight horn section, soulful grooves, and Risager’s unmistakable voice, the band has built a reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting live acts. Over the years, Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado have become a major force on the international blues and roots circuit. The band has won four Danish Music Awards and was named Best Band at the European Blues Awards.

With more than 1,500 concerts worldwide and over 32 million streams, the group continues to reach new audiences. They have shared stages with artists such as Bonnie Raitt and Buddy Guy, while actor and blues enthusiast Dan Aykroyd has also expressed his admiration for the band. Ole Frimer was born on 3 November 1952 in Aalborg, Denmark to Ingrid and Erik Frimer. Aged 13 he bought an acoustic guitar and began learning to play it by watching bands playing at his school, and by listening to records by mainly British pop bands and various blues artists. Aged 15 he formed a 4-piece blues band with schoolboys in his neighborhood, and in 1968 he joined a local semi-professional soul band as a bass player. As a 20 year old he went to study biology at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. Alongside his studies, he was soon absorbed into the Aarhus music scene and played in various blues and roots contexts, including the Danish guitarist and singer Peter Thorup, with whom he later came to work closely. After several years of performance with these bands in Scandinavia, and having finished his studies, Frimer chose to follow his own path.

For over two decades, the Danish 7-piece rhythm & blues band Mojo Hands has established itself as a genuine, hardworking act - always on the move and always true to the music. Formed in the 1990s by founding members Henrik Hansen and Michael Nadolny, the band originally had a raw, rustic approach to rhythm & blues. Over the years, Mojo Hands has undergone several changes - both in musical direction and band members - but the heartbeat of the band has remained constant: a deep love for blues music in all its forms.

As of 2025, Mojo Hands features the same lineup that has been playing together for the last 10-12 years. First there were the three, namely the seasoned bandleader Jesper Bjarnesen – or simply JB – on vocals and electric guitar, his son Oscar Martin “Big O” Eriksen on drums and Jais Kurecko Eriksen on bass. The latter two will be known for their long-standing membership in the well-established jump blues band Big O & the Blue Quarters. Jais Kurecko Eriksen however left this band recently.

These three musicians formed Det Hyggelige Blues Band in 2015 and had a regular engagement at Eydes Kælder in the center of Horsens. The trio quickly became a popular live name with their tight, swinging interpretations of various blues numbers as well as a few original compositions. The trio eventually emerged from Eydes Kælder and began touring, reaching a career high point in 2018 when they played at the Swedish Gothenburg Blues Festival. In 2020, Det Hyggelige Blues Band began recording their debut album "Thank You Blues" and changed their name to JB & the Hüggeli.

At the same time, they expanded the lineup with saxophonist Hans Jørgen “Hanse” Jensen who has been around a lot and is featured on the Big Creek Slim album "Ramblin’ Big Creek". They also sneaked in another new orchestra member through the back door, namely jazz and blues keyboardist Kim Nedergaard, who many remember from the legendary blues and rhythm & blues orchestra Kims Bacon. At 72 years old, Kim Nedergaard is admirably still very much in the swing of things. He is a regular member of the highly acclaimed Aarhusian Bourbon Street Jazzband, and can also be heard with the rest of Kims Bacon on Jesper Bjarnesen's still popular Christmas cd "Swinging Christmas" which saw the light of day in 2001. /Peter Widmer, Bluesnews.dk

Fried Okra Band with and without the “the” has existed since around 2006. Since 2016 the band has been the trio it is today – Thomas Crawfurd(drums, percussion, backing vocals), Anders Wallin(bass, backing vocals), Morten Lunn(lead vocals, guitar, diddley bo) – and the name’s been Fried Okra.

The name:
People who lives in or travelled the state of Louisiana or the rest of the south in the US will know where the name Fried Okra derives from – namely the common dish Fried Okra. It is what is says – the small, green vegetable okra covered in a cornmeal based batter and then deep-fried in oil(try It!).

However, the name does not mean that Fried Okra plays a Louisiana type of music like Cajun or Zydeco. Rather the band chose the name to refer to Afro-American culture of the South in general.

The list of current influences ranging from Lucinda Williams to T Model Ford goes to show that while the music of Fried Okra is heavily bluesy it is not straight blues. The aim is not to copy any of the artists, that Fried Okra claims as influences but rather to mix it together with something of your own – “so it smells familiar while still spiced with something indefinable and different” as Danish reviewer Mads Kornum from the web magazine Side 33 wrote in a live review.

Nominations and Blues Challenges:
The band has been nominated 4 times. Three out of six albums have been nominated for Danish Blues Album of The Year and in 2021 Fried Okra was also nominated for The Blues Live Award.

The band has been nominated 4 times. Three out of six albums have been nominated for Danish Blues Album of The Year, and in 2021 Fried Okra was also nominated for The Blues Live Award. In 2017-2018 Fried Okra won the Danish Blues Challenge and reached 2nd place in the European Blues Challenge. 2018 also saw the release of the live album Fried Alive. In the fall of 2020 Fried Okra released the album “Doing It Right”. Music magazines and regular blues magazines in- and outside Denmark has received “Doing It Right” well. The reviews mentions the sound and lyrics of the album and the bluestone of “Doing It Right” without the album being a straight blues album. “Doing It Right” has gotten airplay on several independent blues radio stations after the release of the record in September, including La Hora Del Blues (ES), The Blues Show 544 by Gary Grainger (GB), Bluestimen (NO).

Fried Okra has played many of the Danish blues clubs and blues clubs and venues in different European countries. The band has also appeared on national and international festivals the open-air festival, Blues fest Eutin in Germany, being one of them. Helsinki, Finland has become Fried Okra’s home away from home, and the band last toured Finland in the spring of 2019. The main venue for Fried Okra though has been Mojo Blues Bar in central Copenhagen, a small club with a lot of atmosphere that serves as the hub of the Copenhagen blues environment as well as for international blues artists. It’s a must-go-to-venue for Scandinavian music travelers.

Originally taking its main inspiration and song material from the Hill Country Blues of Mississippi, US, Fried Okra from Copenhagen, Denmark, now write their own songs, and consider themselves a blues, roots, rock, folk, americana (and you name it) band. Fried Okra Band, with and without the “the”, has existed since around 2006. Since 2016 the band has been the trio it is today – Thomas Crawfurd (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Anders Wallin (bass, backing vocals), Morten Lunn (lead vocals, guitar, diddley bo) – and the name’s been Fried Okra.

People who lives in or travelled the state of Louisiana or the rest of the south in the US will know where the name Fried Okra derives from – namely the common dish Fried Okra. It is what is says – the small, green vegetable okra covered in a cornmeal based batter and then deep-fried in oil (try it!). However, the name does not mean that Fried Okra plays a Louisiana type of music like Cajun or Zydeco. Rather the band chose the name to refer to Afro-American culture of the South in general. The list of current influences ranging from Lucinda Williams to T Model Ford goes to show that while the music of Fried Okra is heavily bluesy it is not straight blues. Kenn Lending (Danish singer, guitarist, composer and producer, born Feb. 8. 1955) is a musician with an extraordinary history. His devotion to music goes back to his early childhood, and african-american music, of any style, has attracted him since he was a baby.

He started learning guitar when he was seven, playing songs of Bob Dylan, Donovan and other folk artists of the time. But it was the “American Folk Blues Festival” in 1968, that made up his mind about his future life. On stage was Big Joe Williams, Jimmy Reed, John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker and Eddie Taylors Chicago Blues Band. To witness these guys play their blues, was such a shock, that this event have had huge impact on the rest of his life. Right away he made a blues band with some schoolmates, and was determent to learn to play the real blues.

Up through the seventies he was working in several reputable Danish groups. Such as the Salsa Rock group “Himmelexpressen” and the Soul and Reggae group “Survivors”. But forming his own Blues Band in 1980, fulfilled the dream, that he had, since he saw T Bone Walker live on that stage in 1968.

Already a year before Kenn Lending formed his band, he started his well known partnership with the legendary american barrelhouse piano-player and blues singer Champion Jack Dupree, who lived in Hannover, Germany since 1975. This partnership, that through the years turned into a close friendship, lasted until “The Champ” passed away in January 1992.

The Duo did over 1000 concerts together in 35 states and countries, including a seven week tour in USA and Canada in 1991. They also appear together on at least 19 different albums. Three of the albums was recorded in Champion Jack Dupree’s hometown New Orleans, for Rounder Records in 1990 and 1991, in connection with their performances on “New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival”. One of these CD’s “Forever and Ever”, received the WC Handy Award for the best traditional album in 1991.

When an old bluesman like Champion Jack Dupree, choose to work and travel with a young musician, it’s not only for the friendship and the help it is, to travel with a younger guy. It’s also because it’s time to pass the heritage to the next generation. Thats exactly what The Champ did to Kenn, over the years they spend together. Because of this fact, Kenn has received a lot of respect and encouragement from other African-American blues artist, such as BB King, Junior Wells, John Lee Hooker and Willie Dixon, over the years. Many blues artists also started using Kenn for concerts and recordings. Artists like Memphis Slim, Luther Allison, Bobby Rush, Louisiana Red, Aron Burton, Janice Harrington, Lillian Boutté, and many others, have frequently used Kenn Lending and his Blues Band as backingband on concerts and recordings. In 1991 he also recorded with the legendary american rockband “The Band” in their studio “Big Pink” in Woodstock. Along with Champion Jack Dupree he is present on their 1996 album “High On The Hog”.

Even though Kenn knows his “down home blues”, and respects the heritage he got from Jack Dupree, Kenn Lending Blues Band is known to have a very personal sound. This is evident on all their 12 album’s, from the first LP “Live” in 1981 – to “It’s Been A Long Time” in 2020. With all the songs by Kenn Lending, he is taking the audience on a trip “from roots to fruits with the blues”. In the music you will find elements from his lifelong love and experience with African-American music. The lyrics is highly personal statements and the high performance of the individual musicians along with a perfect sound, makes all the album’s milestones in the great career of Kenn Lending and his blues band, that in 2020 celebrated their 40 years jubilee.
