Charles Hayes lays down authentic, down home blues, layered with a modern sensibility. His biting Fender Strat is much more than sheer power. Hayes bends the strings to give his blues that smoky feel like a grill master who's been smoking up pig slabs. This sound is the hard electric scream of down south blues transplanted to Chicago from his boyhood home in Tennessee. Hog Hayes has been playing blues on a regular basis since the late 1950s. When he hit Chicago in the early 1960s he was knocked out by Albert King, strumming loose with a cutting, biting guitar sound. Hayes played behind Paul Butterfield, John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton. This session was recorded live with minimal overdubs. A top Chicago blues band provided the rhythm for Hayes' showcase performance. The result is a tight, tough background for growling vocals and piercing electric guitar. Hog Hayes has remain true to the old blues school, playing raw blues. This is live, electrified Chicago Blues, lean, mean bluesy and raw. Play loud!
