Mulen Portland Combo is originally a blues band from Slemmestad, Norway, with only one member - namely Rolf "Mulen" Karlsen. But that does not mean Mulen Portland Combo is a one-man orchestra with bass drum on his back. On the contrary, it is an ambulating band consisting of the A-team of Norwegian musicians. A total of 96 musicians have played in the band, and some say that if you have not been involved with Mulen then chances are small that you mean something in Norwegian music life.

30 years of enthusiasm can be tiring, but for Mulen it has just been fun. The first CD "Blå Stikke" came in 1993 - 12 years after the start - and received great reviews from music critics. Since then 5 CDs have been released, all of them well received in the blues environment.

Mulens Portland Combo er et løst sammensatt blues- og soul-band med trommeslager og leder Rolf «Mulen» Karlsen fra Slemmestad som eneste faste medlem. Bandet ble dannet i 1981[1], som et lokalt band i miljøet rundt sementfabrikken på Karlsens hjemsted på Slemmestad.[2] Gjennom årene har rundt 90 musikere, hvorav mange av landets elitemusikere, vært innom besetningen[1]. Bandet har fem plateutgivelser. Kjente musikere som har spilt i gruppa er Freddy Dahl, Sigurd Køhn, Tom Mathisen, Ole Henrik Giørtz og Vidar Busk.
