Dedicated to the harmonica since adolescence, Ñaco Goñi is one of the pioneers of blues in Spain, especially in Madrid. Coming from the famous and musical neighborhood of Prosperidad, his inimitable sound and personality have contributed to establishing a local and national blues scene, in which he has formed a group together with other references such as Malcolm Scarpa, Whiskey David or Tonky de la Peña. . It was precisely during his time in the first formation of the Tonky Blues Band that Blues Corner (Coquette Disc, 1987) appeared, the first blues album in Madrid. Although still remembered with nostalgia by the public, that stage was left behind, except for occasional meetings such as the still recent presentation of the Madrid Blues Society.
Since then, Ñaco has earned his way to become a harmonica player among harmonica players, precisely in Madrid where they have not stopped growing. Leader of the Bluescavidas and companion of many, the history of Ñaco and the blues can be traced from his magnificent project Blues with colleagues (Moco de Pavo Production, 2006), whose second volume will be released on April 29. But the importance of Ñaco is not only explained by his experience and his collaborations, but fundamentally by his impressive way of playing. Because of his ability to combine rhythm and melody, power and sensitivity, to gain prominence without overwhelming and without ever stopping playing. It is that kind of naturalized virtuosity that makes him special.
Ñaco inhales and blows the harmonica, squeezes it, pampers it, bites it. He leads her back and forth as he sways with narrowed eyes. Between sinuous routes, he resolves with definitive turns that concentrate the feeling in bendings that make the listener smile. He gives the impression of having unlimited resources until one recognizes phrases that he has heard from him before, that he moves from one topic to another, that are part of his language. That of a simple and smiling guy who, when he came across a harmonica as a kid, could only commit himself to the blues forever.
