Carie & the SoulShakers' original music is a blend of blistering blues and sultry soul with New Orleans style and Memphis grit. Their covers include rare cuts from Allen Toussaint, Willie Dixon, Fats Domino, Johnny Taylor and Taj Mahal.
Carie broke into the local music scene when she was entered in a Female Vocalist Showcase in 2009.
Carie started performing the 70s doing street theater. In the 80s she earned awards and gained notoriety as a serious actor in northern California, delivering critically acclaimed performances. In the 90s Carie earned more awards and higher education credentials while attending UCSC's Theater Arts department. In 1999, her final theatrical performance, she played the part of Lucy Brown in Berthold Brecht's Three Penny Opera
Originally from the Mendocino Coast, Carie settled in Santa Cruz and, having retired from theater, became restless. In 2007 tried her hand at singing the blues. She's go a mojo hand. Now her dramatic skills are set in a musical line-up frequented by local music luminaries.
Encouraged by bassist Chamoix, drummer Steve Kirby and guitarist John Lawton, Carie began to stir up some extraordinary reaction. Her dramatic and soulful singing style has attracted a wide field of talented players making her line-up ever-changing and always new and exciting. Each show is a shake-up!
Carie & the SoulShakers bring audiences to their feet, raise roofs, stimulate spirits and move hearts. They bring a sound like no other and yet it is intensely familiar.
