With Blind Willie McTell, Champion Jack Dupree (issued as Duke Bayou & His Mystic Six), Brownie McGhee, 1947-50.
The blues players heard on this album underscore the cultural and musical ties between the Southeastern United States and New York City. Around 1950 down-home blues recordings were clearly out of the mainstream of black American popular music. Nonetheless Apollo felt that the market remained strong enough to release such blues-drenched guitar and vocal blues. Features 8 Seward/Hayes sides plus 3 alternates, 4 sides by Dupree (with Brownie McGhee and a washboard band!), and from the original master tapes 4 sides and an alternate by Blind Willie McTell and one side and an alternate by Dennis McMillon.
