Octave Lissner was born in Paris on June 30, 1993 to a musical family. At twenty-three, following the success of his debut EP featuring the single ‘Silver Rain’ (2014), with over 24,000 listens on SoundCloud, he is preparing the release of his first album: Wildflower. Recorded in Serbia with some of the country’s best session musicians, the album exhibits Octave’s mournful, soulful, hard-grooving blues rock at full force. It might make you feel like you’re in an open-top car, one careless arm draped out the window over the hot metal, with someone beautiful in the passenger seat.

Octave’s music takes particular influence from musicians like Otis Redding, The Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye, Neil Young, Burt Bacharach and Paul Simon. But his musical attractions range widely and are diverse, including the more contemporary—Radiohead and Kings of Leon— It’s not surprising that he draws on such a wide range of artistry; he started learning the violin at age six and the guitar at eight; and at eleven he discovered he could sing. Forming a band in which he co-wrote songs with his friends, none of the precocious and embarrassed boys were comfortable putting themselves forward as lead singer. Taking turns at the microphone to see who could sing best, Octave found he had a voice.

Since then it has continued to serve him well, and Octave has composed and performed music in a number of bands, and as a solo artist in venues across London and Paris. In October 2014 he opened for Mr Big at the legendary venue Koko in Camden, London, and in Paris he has played solo concerts at Bus Palladium, Le China Club, La Favela Chic, Le Perchoir and Pile ou Face, to name but a few. Earlier this year at Le Baiser Salé, one of Paris’ most celebrated jazz clubs, he gave weekly performances in a one-month residency for a tribute to jazz guitarist John Scofield.

In April 2016 Octave won a prize for best composition in ‘The Best Musical Mind’: an international competition held in Belgrade. This allowed him to attend a Summer program offered by the Berklee School of Music in Perugia, Italy. A restless composer, Octave has written music for web series (www.mylifeinsourdough.com) and film soundtracks; his song 'Little Mary' featured in Valley of Love (starring Gerard Depardieu and Isabelle Huppert, directed by Guillaume Nicloux), part of the official selection during the 2015 Cannes film festival. He currently lives between Paris and London, where he spends his time composing and drinking chocolate milk.

Jake Calypso - 49 Highway Blues

Album: 49 Highway Blues

4. Milk Cow Blues (3:33)
5. Drifting Blues (3:29)

8. That's All Right (3:58)
9. Sitting On Top Of The World (2:35)
10. One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer (2:46)

49 Highway Blues is an album of 10 Delta Blues classics recorded in Greenwood, Mississippi on October 13, 2025. Jake Calypso & Steph B. (Stephane Bihan) were performing just a few meters from Robert Johnson's grave, live and amidst a swarm of mosquitoes.

Jake is first and foremost a well-known artist on the rockabilly scene, with numerous albums released since 2009. But within several other projects such as Wild Boogie Combo, The Memphis Blues Cream, and Lonely Jake, it's the blues that forms the core of his repertoire. This includes the blues of Memphis and the legendary Sun Studio with Memphis Blues Cream, as well as the Mississippi blues, both its roots and the revival known as North Hill Country Blues. A first trip in 2016 led to the very limited release of an album recorded on the roads of Mississippi: Lonely Jake - Blues Never Lies.

Through the 10 tracks he chose for this first 100% Delta Blues album, one can clearly feel his desire to share the true foundations of the rock 'n' roll he loves, with tracks like Corrina Corrina, Kansas City, and Milk Cow Blues. As for Steph B., here on harmonica, he is a very involved and dedicated artist in the Northern France blues scene, as a musician with Yokatta Brothers, as a photographer, recording studio owner, and also as a label and Blues Society member with Yokatta Records.

49 Highway Blues, released in 2026, offers the opportunity to perpetuate the tradition of vinyl albums featuring blues classics and traditional tunes from the 1930s onward, as so brilliantly done by Lightnin' Hopkins, Big Joe Williams, Bukka White, Snooks Eaglin, Jimmy Reed, and many others.

Personnel: Jake Calypso (guitar, vocals); Stephane Bihan (harmonica).

11. Fireworks (2:44)
12. For the Angel (2:38)

No Money Kids is a French music duo made up of singer and guitarist Félix Matschulat and bassist and electronic music wizard JM Pelatan. They mix blues, rock, and electronic music to create a gritty, visual like sound. Think of music that feels like a nighttime road trip or a scene in a thriller movie. They’ve been making waves since the mid-2010s, thanks to their fresh, raw style and passion for making music their own way.

The duo met in Paris and quickly bonded over their love of experimenting with music. Félix brought his love for blues and grunge, while JM added modern beats and electronic elements. Together, they created No Money Kids, a name that reflects their do-it-yourself approach to music-making, proving you don’t need a big budget to make great music and this is how they came up with the name for their duo, No Money Kids. This duo combines the best of different styles. They take the soulful, raw energy of old-school blues and mix it with the modern edge of electronic beats. Félix’s raspy voice and guitar give the music a rugged, emotional feel, while JM’s basslines and electronic sounds add a sleek, futuristic vibe.

In 2015, No Money Kids released their debut album titled I Don't Trust You. This album has 12 songs on it that include ""Old Man," "Bullshit," "War," "No Money Kids," "Government," and "Garbage." This album got people talking about their blend of bluesy grit but with a modern twist. The Duo released their second album titled Hear the Silence in 2017. This album has 10 tracks on it that include "Man Down," "Take Me to Your Home," "The Hangman," "Hear the Silence," "My Love," and "Shot the Master." This album explored deeper emotions while keeping the cool vibe they’re known for.

Félix and JM released their next album titled Trouble in 2018. This album has 13 songs on it that include "Hush Hush," "See Me Laughing," "Wake Me Up," "Family Blood," "Nowhere Land," and "My Loneliness." With this album, they went a little darker, writing songs about personal struggles and the chaos of the world around them. In 2021, No Money Kids released their next album titled Factory. This album has 12 tracks on it that include "Factory Blues," "Shine a Light," "Brother," "Dear Friend," "Birds," and "Bridge in Town." This album was well received by the duo's fanbase. No Money Kids released the Deluxe version of Factory in 2022. They added 4 tracks to this edition. They are "Queen," "I'm rolling," "Graveyard," and "Friend of Mine."

No Money Kids live performances are electric. It’s just the two of them on stage with a guitar, bass, and some electronic equipment, but they fill the room with energy. Félix’s passionate singing and JM’s smooth style make for an unforgettable experience. Fans and critics love No Money Kids because they’re original and not afraid to experiment. Their music feels fresh but still grounded in the raw emotions of blues and rock. People also appreciate how their songs often tackle real-life issues like personal struggles and societal problems.

No Money Kids stand out because they prove you don’t have to follow the usual formulas to make great music. Their mix of old and new styles inspires other musicians to think outside the box. They show that you can be creative, authentic, and still make music that connects with people. Félix and JM are more than a band; they’re storytellers and musical risk-takers. Their songs capture life’s highs and lows with honesty and passion. Whether you’re watching a movie, driving at night, or just chilling with headphones on, their music has a way of pulling you in and sticking with you. They’re proof that creativity and determination can take you far, even if you start with “no money.”

That's a wrap for my report on No Money Kids...In closing, please just know, Soundwave Music Media will be here and I will always do my best to bring you the rock music report! Please consider supporting me and the crew by purchasing a Soundwave shirt or hat and support our sponsors! Rock On! Until next time...🤘

3. You Don't Have To Go (5:55)
4. When The Bobcat Play (3:53)
5. The Same Thing (8:48)
6. Caroline's Smile (4:48)
7. Lucky In Love (4:57)

This band may come from France, but the blood running through their veins is as blue as can be and with their second album, "Blues Twins", these five guys will convert even the most blasé to blues music. "Blues Twins" is in fact a double album, one live CD and one recorded in studio: very daring for a first album but it turns out to be a real class act. We start off with the live album and "Slow Down" goes off with a bang and is followed by a very punchy "Can't Keep A Good Man Down". Shake Your Hips! really mean business when they play live and let out the stage animals they are as in this live recording of the concert they did one summer night of 2008 in Nantes. It's molten lava destroying everything in its way including those CDs you were listening to and thought were pretty good. The cocktail of covers on this CD may have been a weakness but, in fact, the band's interpretation is incredibly efficient and, from the first track, you can’t help feeling they’re a band to be reckoned with.

After the live album, you’re left wondering whether it was a mistake starting with the live CD. But there’s nothing else to do but slip the studio album in and from the first track, "Swingharp", an instrumental piece, you’re nailed to your chair. It's shaking, swinging, smouldering and undoubtedly up there with the live recording. And yes, it's a relief as it could have been a disappointment after such an extraordinary first album. The journey goes on with the bluest blues you’ve heard in a long time, subtle and direct at the same time and with a talent straight from red hot embers. The same intense red which sets alight "Gathering" with its breathtaking harp intro: it's as if you’re hearing the bagpipes in the Highlands with the guitar, drums and bass coming out of the woods like a Scottish mist and nothing can resist it. The band, accompanied by some impressive guests, has now found their Holy Grail with their songwriting.

We can't mention them all but there is something really special: "Eight O'Clock Blues" is one of the most authentic blues songs of the year and "The End Of It", a slow blues number as powerful and intense as the famous "The End" from the Doors and that's saying something. Shake Your Hips! is not yet another French band, not another chorus, not another blues band but the blues band of the moment and a band with a huge heart, the sort of band we rarely hear these days. Go on, Shake Your Hips!.

Personnel: Freddy Miller (vocals); Olivier Raymond (guitar, backing vocals); Jérôme Ferrié (bass); Olivier Ferrié (drums); Jean-Marc Henaux (harmonica).

4. My Own Medecine ( 7:25)

10. How Long To Heal ( 5:23)
11. Memphis hat ( 2:34)
12. Paris Rain ( 4:15)
13. Time To Cut You Loose ( 3:17)

Nico's shows are renowned for the energy that emanates from them and the contagious joy that spreads there. Trained at the school of American blues clubs that he has been attending since the age of 19, he has developed a unique approach to the stage where energy, charisma, harmonica and feeling are carried by a close-knit and efficient band.

A professional since 1998, he has recorded 14 albums under his own name, 12 of which were released on the Dixiefrog label. His tours have led him to rally new fans in France as well as in Belgium, Holland, the United States, Canada, Spain, Italy, Germany, Macedonia, Ecuador, Nigeria, Syria, Tunisia and Morocco.

Nico is concerned about bringing his blues wherever he is asked. He is therefore as capable of performing as a duo for an intimate concert, as of electrifying his music in quartet or quintet in the spirit of the Chicago Blues of the great masters of the genre. He also knows how to offer a Big Band version of his music, where the repertoire defended is that of the blues tinged with funk and soul of James Cotton, to whom he paid tribute in an album released on Dixiefrog in 2017.

Lately, Nico has also been performing solo guitar-harmonica-vocals and bringing to the stage a repertoire of street music, based on his original songs influenced by the blues and gospel of his roots.

Working with American musicians has long been a blues school for Nico and his band. They have welcomed guests such as Cash McCall, David Maxwell, Monster Mike Welch, and Killer Ray Allison on tours. Nico has recorded or worked with Rod Piazza, Guy Davis and Andrew Strong.

During his American stays, he shared the stage with James Cotton, Billy Branch, RJ Mischo, Luther Allison, Eddie C. Campbell, Vance Kelly, Jimmy Burns, Jimmy Johnson and many other names of the Chicago scene.

The French trio celebrates the legendary bluesman with the album "Zebedee: The Vine Street Shuffle Does Earl Hooker" which demonstrates the energy and musical beauty of this trio, well-versed in numerous concerts throughout France with Cincinnati Slim. Earl Hooker, cousin of John Lee Hooker, never achieved the fame that should have been his. We can reasonably assume that without this damn illness, the guitarist would have happily sailed towards a star career. The Vine Street Shuffle shows us the stature of this guitarist who inspired the greatest bluesmen and left behind compositions that look like blues classics. A historic and electric discovery! /Jean Marc Lebeaupin, ArtsixMic

It's not every day that you come across a musician of the calibre of Nico Chona, who, with a family of musicians and rock enthusiasts, couldn't decently avoid falling into the cauldron. His authentic but refined style encapsulates the essence of American rock, from Duane Allman and Dickey Betts to Billy Gibbons and Johnny Winter.

At the head of the successful YouTube channel Tone Factory, Nico lives his adventure on stage all year round with his band which tours all over Europe. Nico is one of the few guitarists I've seen in the studio who is able to put solos in one take with such intensity, even in a live session with a legend like Robben Ford. This is the mark of the greats.

With Blues Factory, their third album, the group affirms its identity: authentic, generous, and profoundly human. Ray Perelli, singer and rhythm guitarist, is the driving force behind the band. Ray discovered B.B. King at age 13 and was never the same after that: the blues became his language.

After years of playing various styles (notably with the Dixie Cats), he founded Five Bluesmen in 2010. Alongside him, Elvis, the lead guitarist, joined the adventure from the very beginning after an impromptu concert - no rehearsal, just instinct and passion. Jérôme Frulin, the Parisian bassist from the cult band Sales Majestés. Eric Flayecasse, the Belgian drummer, infuses the rhythm section with his unique energy. Lil' Red & The Rooster with Bobby Floyd - 7

Album: 7
Size: 89,9 MB
Time: 38:57
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 2025
Styles: Blues, jazzy blues
Art: Front

1. Wild's Rising (5:48)
2. Stack 'Em Up Baby (4:42)
3. Is This Heart Taken (3:28)
4. Melancholy Mood (6:34)
5. Midnight On The Rocks (3:18)
6. Between The Lines (5:48)
7. Mr. Saboteur (aka Do The Donut) (3:48)
8. Same Old Blues (Feat. Jeff Morrow) (Bonus Track ) (5:27)

The international duo of Jennifer “Lil’ Red” Milligan and Pascal Fouquet have long walked their own path, and 7 finds them at their most adventurous. The record opens with a cinematic sweep, carrying a spy-noir atmosphere that threads throughout the album. It’s blues at its root, but stretched and reshaped into something fresh with Pascal’s guitar lines bending between fire and subtlety, and Lil’ Red’s voice radiating intimacy and power.

The album’s backstory adds to its weight. What began as a jazzy instrumental envisioned around Bobby Floyd’s Hammond B3 has blossomed into a collaborative journey spanning Paris, Columbus and Chicago. Floyd’s playing is central – warm, commanding and lifting the arrangements skyward – while the rhythm section locks into grooves that are equal parts classic and unexpected. There’s a pulse of gospel in one moment, a cinematic noir edge in the next and then the familiar ache of blues, grounding it all.

7 shifts into deeply personal territory. Lil’ Red writes with fierce honesty, using themes of self-empowerment, loss, healing and freedom to anchor the songs. But perhaps the album’s greatest strength lies in how it was recorded — live in the studio, with all the risks and rewards that entails. The result is a record that breathes, full of tiny sparks of communication between the musicians. You can hear the smiles, the raised eyebrows and the spontaneous swells of energy that can’t be scripted. When Lil’ Red sings about freedom, or when Pascal lets his guitar twist into an unexpected phrase, you believe it because you can feel it happening in real time.

By the time the record closes, you’re left with something that instinctively stays with you. A mix of smoky late night atmosphere, gospel shout energy and heartfelt blues storytelling. It’s a collection of songs that map out grief, joy and connection in seven fully realized chapters. Here, Lil’ Red & The Rooster have created a work that honors the roots of blues while bending it into new shapes, a record that invites you to listen closely, feel deeply and maybe even heal a little along the way. 7 cements the duo’s place as one of the most daring and soulful acts performing today.

Nico Wayne Toussaint - My Kind Of Blues

Size: 335 MB
Time: 51:35
File: Flac
Released: 1998
Styles: Blues
Art: Front

1. Going Home (3:42)
2. Barbara (4:46)
3. Bad Boy (3:28)
4. Give Me A Kiss Baby (4:37)
5. Can't You Tell (4:05)
6. Cheaper To Keep Her (4:08)
7. West Helena Blues (5:29)
8. I Love You Babe (5:25)
9. Fever (4:17)
10. Walking Down College Street (4:54)
11. Bye Bye (6:39)

From this first album, released in 1998, Nico Wayne Toussaint showed the extent of his talent. When he blows his harmonica with vigor and conviction, he has the groove, there is no doubt; it does him well, his peachy, sharp, emotional and authentic timbre. He also knows how to play in his clear voice, with a touch of graceful notes. Sometimes you might think of Paul Personne, which is no mean compliment. Provided you accept this rather particular, very Frenchie tone, which must be taken as it is, even if it does not have quite the dusty flavor of the American great outdoors. You would have to be insensitive not to give in to the very compelling charm expressed in certain personal compositions (Give Me A Kiss Baby or Bye Bye for example, which he paradoxically interprets in French, with delightful nonchalance) or in this beautiful cover of a James Cotton record, West Helena Blues. Since then, Nico has grown in maturity and affluence, which has given him international stature; but he has lost a bit of the freshness that characterized his first album. This return to basics is all the more interesting... Finally, it should be noted that he is very well surrounded by a small band whose most robust blues emerge. On guitar Jeremy Johnson (lead), Phil Schmid (rhythm), Lee Tedreau (slide), on bass Billy Black and on drums Steve “Slim” Erickson.

Nico Chona and The Freshtones - First Album

File: Flac
Released: 2019
Styles: Blues & Rock
Art: Front

1. Wheels of Obsession (4:49)
2. Run (4:59)
3. Screen Boy (3:12)
4. Again and Again (4:49)
5. The Heat (3:39)
6. Black Sky Man (5:43)
7. Hello (3:42)
8. The Winning Wind (4:43)
9. Rollin and Tumblin (3:40)
10. Goldtop Sunday Blues (5:05)
11. Catalin Crest (5:39)

Based out of Lyon, France, Nico Chona & The Freshtones are a hard-driving, hard-to-classify four-piece ensemble who make their recording debut on this album, which liberally mixes blues, rock and American roots throughout and frequently shifts gears within songs.

They’re fronted by lead guitarist/lead singer Nico Chona, who began writing tunes at age 14 in the late 2000s, primarily influenced by sounds emanating from the U.S. and U.K. in the ‘60s and ‘70s – Muddy Waters, early ZZ Top, Cream and Crosby Stills Nash & Young among them.

He’s backed by a trio of childhood friends: bassist Dan Nambotin, guitarist Joris Perrin and drummer Nicholas Gamet, all of whom provide backing harmonies as they deliver an energetic brand of music packed with occasion surprises when they shift between stylings.

This CD was recorded live to a 24-track tape recorder at Magneto Studios in Lyon and consists of ten originals and one cover, all delivered in English with little or no accent from the band’s homeland, where they’ve been playing some of the larger music festivals.

The opener, “Wheels of Obsession,” begins with the roar of an engine before the group launches into a driving boogie, then slows and drops volume dramatically to make way for lyrics that promise to take a companion to somewhere in the south where no one’s waiting before shifting gears and picking up speed once more. Chona’s vocals are somewhat lost in the mix, but are pleasant, and the rhythm section is tight.

The sound shifts quietly to the Delta for the opening and slowly picks up speed and intensity before erupting once again in “Run,” continuing the travel theme and describing an encounter with a black cat late at night. Nico’s guitar blazes in full blues-rock fury to carry the song home. The boogie comes with stop-time feel in the uptempo “Screen Boy,” an invitation to another person to “drop the digital world” and join the band on its ride.

“Again and Again” opens with the sound of shifting through an assortment of radio stations before the band launches into a semi-acoustic ballad that’s much lighter than what’s come before. It echoes ‘60s folk-rock with minor psychedelic overtones as it describes an encounter with someone who’s been watching the singer intently for a long time. The feel continues in another ballad, “The Heat,” which features pleasant choral work on the chorus before returning to the blues-rock root to end.

The hard-charging “Black Sky Man” starts slowly with more sounds of an engine experiencing difficulties before firing. It’s another boogie with an inventive rhythm pattern, but yields to more sounds of the Delta in the haunting “Hello,” another solicitation to walk and talk in the early morning.

The ‘60s are back in style for “The Winning Wind,” which is breezy at first before building intensity. A cover of Hambone Willie Newbern’s 1929 Okeh Records classic “Rollin’ and Tumblin’” gets a supercharged redo before “Goldtop Sunday Blues” reflects on a lady who’s a delight on the weekend, but a devil when Monday comes. The disc closes with “Catalin Crest,” a sweet ballad that picks up steam slowly as it recounts good times laying in the sun next to a lady love.

10. Flamingo (2:51)
11. Crazy Guitar (2:59)

“Parisian Mambo” is the second LP by “Cecilya & the Candy Kings”. The entire album is a tribute to the city of Paris, which has made the Catalan singer grow musically since she settled in the capital of love. The 11 songs on the album will take you back to the 50s by the hand of a woman with a powerful and luminous voice committed to the causes of her time.

The lyrics of Cecilya not only speak of love and celebration as rhythm and blues did at that time. They also speak of dreams (broken or not), internal struggles, healing, emigration, her native Mediterranean, the luck of being a free woman, the superficiality of the world we live in and the nostalgia for better times.

The music, signed Rodolphe Dumont, has been produced in detail to enhance the personal universe of Cecilya. Retro soundscapes and catchy melodies will take listeners back to the days of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. "Parisian Mambo" captures the essence of Golden Age rhythm and blues - a blend of blues, rock and roll, boogie-woogie, mambo and more.

Personnel: Cecilya Mestres (vocals); Rodolphe Dumont (guitar); Sax Gordon (saxophone); Olivier Cantrelle (piano); Abdell B. Bop (double bass); Denis Agenet (drums).
