Alright, so i been spinning this Little Boy Child album by olivier gotti - yeah, that french dude with the weissenborn and a voice like gravel in boots - and honestly? didn't expect to vibe this hard. came in blind, just saw "blues" and thought, cool, maybe some sleepy sunday soundtrack. nah. this thing's got teeth. first off, the lap steel? man, it's everywhere. not in a showy way, more like it's part of his bones. olivier plays it himself, sings too, raw as hell. no polish, no auto-tune circus. just him, wood, wire, and pain. tracks like "Under Cover Of The Darkness" creep up on you. starts slow, feels like fog rolling over wet pavement. then bam - that slide guitar cuts through like a knife you didn't see coming. "Tomorrow I'll Be Gone" - title alone hits different. sounds like he recorded it at 3am in an empty garage. vocals crack, strings buzz, and somehow it all fits. not perfect. better than perfect. feels real. same with "Thousand Miles Away." melancholy but not whiny. just... tired. in a good way? weird to say, but yeah. then there's "All In The Truck (Olinzetruck!)" - okay, what even is this. wild ride. almost punk-blues? like if tom waits drove a broken-down truck through southern france. chaotic, fun, lyrics half-sung half-yelled. love it or hate it moment. i'm team love-it. gives the album some grit, breaks the mood so it don't get too heavy. live track "River In The Sea" - rough around the edges, mic picks up crowd noise, someone coughs. could've cleaned it up. glad they didn't. makes it feel alive. like you're there, sipping cheap wine, watching this guy pour it all out. but look, not flawless. "This Is Not Blues" - cool name, ironic, whatever - drags a bit. tries too hard to be meta? or maybe it's just mid-album slump. lost focus for a sec. and "The Curtain Is Fallin'" - solid, sure, but doesn't stick. blends in. needed something sharper there. album ends with "Birds In The Cage" - soft, haunting. fingerpicking, whispery vocals. nice closer. leaves you quiet. reflective. only gripe? production's lo-fi to a fault sometimes. can't catch all the lyrics. but... maybe that's the point. not meant to be dissected. meant to be felt. like smoke in a backroom. funny thing - never heard of olivier gotti before. now i'm digging through his other stuff like i owe him money. that's how you know it's good. not flashy. not viral. just honest blues from a guy who probably doesn't care if you like it. and hey - little boy child? yeah. but this music? old soul. worn boots. storm behind the eyes.
