Roger Girke is a singer, writer and road tested guitarist. With a career including over 4,000 live shows, concerts and festivals and numerous recording sessions and releases, Roger and his bandmates efforts have been validated by fans, writers, broadcast and by being awarded a number of blues music industry awards. The Roger Girke Band was a top 10 finalist in the 2009 International Blues Challenge and two time top tier CD finalists* in 2005 and 2009 (The IBC is an annual event in Memphis which has been a career launchpad for Keb Mo, Susan Tedeschi, Michael Burks, Eden Brent and many others).

Originally Inspired by 60's rock and blues, Roger started out performing in local bands in the eastern PA/NJ area. Upon joining the legendary Philadelphia area roots rock band Pickins (Capitol/Ariola), Roger received a real deal education in music and life with the hard driving blues rock band. This was followed by touring and recording with The Sharks (Elektra), Robert Hazard (RCA), The Limits, Joey Saint, Pegasus, Richard Bush and many others. In 1991 Roger refocused exclusively on performing, recording and writing contemporary blues. Since then he has fronted his own band, recording 5 CD's and regularly performing at blues festivals, clubs and concerts throughout the Mid-Atlantic. In that time he has also recorded and performed with Gary Allegretto (Los Angeles, CA), Sam Cockrell (Chicago, IL) Jimmy Pritchard (DE), Rockett 88 (DE) and others.

Inspired in the 60's and 70's by blues rock greats Edgar and Johnny Winter, Paul Butterfield, Cream and Foghat, Roger went on to embrace all the classic blues greats including a healthy respect for classic New Orleans rhythm & blues. In 1980, within just a few years of his professional debut Roger was actually in a Long Island studio auditioning for Foghat....one of many memorable footnotes to a successful career as a first call guitarist performing over 3,700 live shows with Slim Pickins (Capitol/Ariola), The Sharks (Elektra), Robert Hazard (RCA), indie artists Gary Allegretto, Sam Cockrell, Richard Bush, Shea Quinn/Jeffrey Gaines, The Limits, Jimmy Pritchard and his own projects.

With his new release “Piece of Work”, Roger Girke continues on the same path he has been on since 1976....writing and recording original music and regularly performing in clubs, concerts and festivals. Roger’s 4th CD release “Piece Of Work” contains nine tracks – all written by Roger, with the first four tracks being Roger’s most recent efforts.

Roger – the guitarist, singer and songwriter has performed over 3,500 live shows with a discography dating back to the mid 70’s. Like many guitarists at that time, Roger was inspired by blues rock greats Edgar and Johnny Winter, Paul Butterfield, Cream and Foghat, which eventually lead him to discover the classic rhythm & blues greats, Muddy, BB, Freddie, Ray, Snooks and more! In fact, within just a few short years of his professional debut Roger was actually in a Long Island studio auditioning for Foghat at the height of their popularity! While that didn’t translate into a gig with them, it was just one of many memorable footnotes to a successful career as a first call guitarist for Slim Pickins (Capitol), The Sharks (Elektra), Robert Hazard (RCA), and indie artists Gary Allegretto, Sam Cockrell, Richard Bush, Shea Quinn/Jeffrey Gaines, The Limits, Nik Everett and many others.

As trends came and went, rhythm and blues continued to be Roger’s enduring musical passion and in 1995 after years of 200+ over the road gigs Roger relocated to Delaware and played on and produced Dr. Harmonica and Rockett 88’s only career release “Swingin’ Easy Live”. Roger then established the Roger Girke band in 1999 and became immersed in the vibrant club, concert and festival scene in Delaware and nearby Philly and Baltimore. In 2012 Roger joined forces with Glenn Ferracone, drums (Joe Cocker, Papa, Joey, and Johnny DeFrancesco) and Paul Klinefelter, bass (Luther Allison, Melody Gardot, Jim McCarthy) and together recorded tracks for Roger’s NEW 2013 release “Piece of Work”.

Roger’s artistry has been validated with many positive critical reviews and a number of industry awards. The Roger Girke Band was also a top 10 live finalist in the 2009 International Blues Challenge – AND two time top CD finalists in the annual Memphis, TN event that has launched the careers of Keb Mo, Susan Tedeschi, Michael Burks, Eden Brent and many others.
