In the year since Diggin' Roots Band recorded and released its debut album, Muddy Water, the band continued to stay committed to writing new material and playing as many live shows as possible. In the spring of 2015, a simple suggestion from some friends prompted us to enter the WNY Blues Society's Memphis Bound Competition. It seemed like a great idea! We would get some exposure and get to meet and hang out with other like minded musicians in our area. The Memphis Bound Competition earned Diggin’ Roots Band the opportunity to go to Memphis TN and participate in the 32nd International Blues Challenge (IBC). We were blessed to be able to take our music to Beale Street where the roots of the music we love and are inspired by originated as a popular form of music. The result of the past years experiences is “Bring It Home”.

Hailing from Western New York, Diggin’ Roots Band was formed in the summer of 2013 by a group of friends who share a passion for the roots of American music. The band blends many genres but maintains a firm dedication to the roots of “Delta Blues” with a hint of “Jam Band” for good measure. Marty Smith’s drums and Toby Lindberg's bass lay down the foundation with a tight rhythm pocket, while Johnny Mac and Gerry Loiacano layer in deep traditional harmonica and smooth guitar leads. The lovely Ms. Whitney Riley is always on point with powerful vocals and adds a hint of brass on her trumpet. The band shares a common belief that music is medicine and has the power to inspire and heal.

Diggin Roots Band plays an eclectic mix of music inspired by the various forms of “American Roots Music” including Blues, Funk, Rock n Roll, Soul, R&B, Bluegrass, and Gospel. Most obvious is the firm dedication to the roots of “Delta Blues” with a twist of Jam Band thrown in.
