Minnesota based singer, songwriter and guitarist Mark Cameron has been active in live music for over thirty years. Mark began his performing career in the rich folk-rock scene of the early 1970s and brought this influence into several bands he founded during the 80s and 90s. Today his focus is centered on crafting original blues songs with strong melodies and memorable lyrics. The range of Mark’s material stretches the blues beyond safe limits with a focus on “foot stompin’, butt shakin’” music that is built for a live audience.

After five studio releases in the 1980s and 90s, Mark turned his focus to the blues with Life Of Illusion in 2009. The song “Boxcar Blues” became an instant classic and packs the dance floor at live performances every time. In 2011 Mark released the ambitious project Built To Bust which featured the hipster-swing classic “Do Lovin’ Right” and the Chicago-Blues romp “Tough All Over.” 2014’s One Way Ride To The Blues delivered a raucous blues anthem “Life Is Good When You’ve Got The Blues” and the gospel inspired classic “In This House.” The album Playing Rough (2016) was released in both digital and classic vinyl formats, as were later albums On A Roll (2019) and Nasty Business (2023). MCB is consistently a top finisher in blues competitions and was featured on the 2012 Minnesota Blues All-Stars album.

Known as a charismatic front man and soulful guitarist, Mark engages his audience directly in live performances and delivers his original compositions with a mix of sincerity, honesty and often a touch of humor. He is equally at home on acoustic or electrified instruments and retains writer/arranger credits on all of his recorded projects. Marks vocal range stretches from basement baritone to full-on growl, and his original lyrics draw the listener in and paint a picture of the many worlds within the blues. /Bluestown Music

Working hard to further explore what he calls “The Minneapolis Sound,” guitarist Mark Cameron returns with Nasty Business, debuting on the Blue Heart Records label. The ten new tracks feature the muscular sound generated by his hard working five-piece band. Backing his gritty guitar and vocals are Scott Lundberg on bass, drummer Dan Schroeder, blues harp man Rick Miller and Sheri Cameron on saxophone, percussion & vocals. Cameron brought in several guests to bolster the big sound including Tommy Barbarella on keyboards, vocalists Tonia Hughes, Sara Renner, and Grammy nominee Teresa James along with the horn section of Zack Lozier and Ian Schroeder.

Cameron’s guitar brings us into the opening track, “Sorry,” a full production number that sets the tone for things to come. The title track, “Nasty Business,” features a slinky groove from Schroeder along with greasy harmonica and sweet backing vocals in contrast to the heady subject matter. The bump ‘n’ grind blues “What’s For Supper” is layered with snarky idioms on the subject of tough love, demonstrating Cameron’s rapier bluesman wit. Acclaimed drummer, producer and sound designer, Greg Schutte, sits in on the swinging “Language Of The Blues,” with hot horn jabs and more sweet backing vocals emphasizing Cameron’s message of peace and love. The slow burning “That’s A Fact,” has Cameron playing the role of a brooding lover with convincing theatrics.

Cameron narrates the tribute to a northland juke joint and its notorious proprietor, “Nick’s Place,” that could have come out of the pages of a Mickey Spillane novel. The pulsating “Everything” lays out the attributes of a popular Femme Fatale in an advisory tone. Teresa James joins Cameron on the sultry Latin spiced poem of unrequited love “Combination.” He and Miller commiserate on common karmic pratfalls during the acoustic Delta duet “Life Is Good.” The Swamp Pop love song “Voodoo” closes the set with melodic flair. Back From The Edge, recorded over the last 18 months, continues the foot-stompin', butt shakin' sound that Mark Cameron is known for while adding an expanded range of songs as only Cameron can penthem-from the soul. This suite of ten original songs will take you on a memorable journey through the blues in its many forms. The album kicks off with the funky-hooky riffs of "It's Alright", a satire-laced commentary about authority figures and the age-old battle for control over the almighty dollar with sassy guitar and gritty harmonica sparing through out. In "This Is The Blues" Cameron unleashes the full force of the horn section to drive home all the little things in life that can add up to the blues and the liberation that comes from just admitting it. Cameron winds the amp up to the max and plugs in the Dobro for some nasty slide blues on "2ndJob,"describinga relationship that feels more like employment than enjoyment, as the singer struggles to keep pace with his wayward lover. The relationship theme continues on "Never See It Comin" as a frustrated lover finally turns the tables on his unpredictable girl with Sheri Cameron driving home the point on grinding saxophone. The mood turns playful and funky again on "All There Is To It" as guitarist Cameron and harmonica ace Rick Miller trade barbs as a series of love triangle mishaps unfold in front of them. The title track "Back From The Edge" takes a brutally honest look at the world we live in. Cameron's soulful message is enhanced with guest performances by organist Tommy Barbarella (New Power Generation) and soul singers Tonia Hughes and Sara Renner. The listener can sense that the tongue is planted firmly in-the cheek on "One Size Fits All," a humorous take on the subtle intolerance we all experience in our daily lives delivered in a smoky nightclub style. The mood shifts to a hypnotic slow blues on "All Dressed Up," while the rhythm section of drummer Dan Schroeder and bassist Scott Lundberg deliver an infectious groove that pulls the listener in and holds on 'til the end. The gritty slide blues of "Dollar For Liquor" follows the exploits of a happy-go-drunky street busker and his eternal quest to get someone to buy the next round. The album concludes with the dreamy, summer-of-'68 inspired "Lost And Found," which examines what happens when love and people go missing and offers hope that they can be found as easily as simple everyday items.

Mark Cameron continues his mission to hone his skills as a blues storyteller on his latest release “On A Roll.” Meticulously recorded over the span of a year at Bathtub Shrine studios in Minneapolis, the 14 new original tracks are a true collaboration between Cameron and his band mates. The longtime rhythm section of Scott Lundberg (bass) and Dan Schroeder (drums) deftly navigate the diverse song palette. Sheri Cameron brings in the spice on saxophone, flute and percussion while Rick Miller delivers the down-and-dirty sleaze on harmonica.

The lonesome moan of Miller’s harmonica brings in the opening track, ‘Trouble Brewin,’ a swinging tune that has Cameron laying out the story of him and his gal who find themselves on a collision course. Schroeder then drops a funky beat for the rebuke of a dirty dealer in ‘On Your Way To The Top,’ which features some slick double-lead lines. Cameron offers some advice on a wild woman during the rumbling boogie ‘Dirty Biscuit.’ He dedicates the road song ‘Ridin The Rails’ to departed friend and bassist Serrin Andreas and Sheri’s flute gives this introspective tune its distinctive Canned Heat feel.

The title track is a classic tongue-in-cheek tale of hard luck and trouble with a man “getting in touch with the deepest, darkest places in his soul.” Cameron delivers a spoken monologue and the harmonica and sax become a full-horn section on the jump blues ‘Dicey.’ The modern groove of ‘Next Stop Is The Blues’ comes right out of the Robert Cray playbook, while the straight up Delta Blues ‘Where I Got You From’ turns back the clock nicely. The ance-hall number ‘Movin Out’ pays homage to Rosco Gordon's 1959 standard ‘Just A Little Bit’ with some Texas guitar flair.

The Louis Jordan inspired swing of ‘Back Seat Boogie’ has a great sing-along familiarity and Cameron questions his own motives on the bumping ‘Here We Go.’ Mark lets his Gibson model “Lucille” guitar do the talking for him on ‘What Lucy Says.’ He then teaches us a lesson on the intricacies of the blues in ‘Mojo Shuffle’ explaining “if it ain’t too fast, it ain’t too slow, you got mojo.” The soaring ballad ‘Dreams’ closes the set featuring dynamic interplay between harmonica, saxophone and lead guitar while Cameron’s vocals take us to church for solace and inspiration.

The fourth Album from Minneapolis-based blues man Mark Cameron is rough-around-the-edges blues the way it was meant to be. From the boogie based opener "Doctor In the House" to the haunting closing cut "Borrowed Time" this album delivers on it's promise to play it rough. The searing harp of Bill "Killer" Keyes and the haunting flute of Sheri Cameron add a rare flavor that is a perfect compliment to Cameron's brutally honest vocal style. Audiences have been moved to tears over "Bluesmans Lullaby" (a tribute to BB King) and driven to dance the night away to the funky riffs of "Somewhere down the Line". Cameron delivers a surprising twist on the front-porch vibe with the slide based "Done Me Wrong" and "Rusty old Model T". Listeners are reminded of the 1950's Memphis sound with the sentimental sweetness of "Almost". "Close My Eyes" breaks form with a chain-gang style rock crushing field holler. The sound of "Playing Rough" mirrors the live sound of the Mark Cameron Band perfectly. A fun, funky and very original approach to the Blues.
