Jock's Juke Joint Vol. 2 is the second in a series, as part of a project run by Lewis Hamilton and Nick Hamilton (of Lewis Hamilton and the Boogie Brothers) and Duncan Beattie that aims to showcase Scotland's extensive blues talent to a wider audience. "Due to the interest, praise and success in Jock's Juke Joint Vol 1, Nick, Lewis and I realise we've set the bar high for this album. Therefore we've attempted to provide a broader musical scope, while also compiling a collection that is firmly rooted in the blues. We're delighted to bring you the title track of Blues 'n' Trouble's new album and a previously unreleased recording featuring top Scottish blues guitarists Alan Nimmo and Al Brown. Amongst some popular festival regulars; we've also identified several exciting new names to emerge from Scotland's blues underground. With Vol. 2, the breath of classic electric blues, acoustic blues and rock blues of the first volume remains. Yet this second volume adds some funk, soul and folk blues to the melting pot. We believe this album incorporates the wider spectrum of the genre. The artists contributing to this album are all based in the modern multicultural Scotland. We hope it will provide them all with greater exposure and encourage you to explore their music further. Based on the theme of a fictitious Scottish Juke Joint, this collection features everything you’d wish to hear in such an establishment. There’s the fine whisky soaked vocals of Stevey Hay and Paul Muir, the grit and smoulder of Laura May Gibson and Helen Turner. Hear the classic electric guitar playing of Al Brown and Iain Gibney and the blues slide of Lewis Hamilton and Gus Munro. There’s the acoustic country picking of Sleepy Eyes Nelson and Lovat “Houndog” Fraser contrasting with the harder edged blues-rock of Gerry Jablonski and Willie Logan. There are wailing harmonicas by Fraser Speirs and Paul Montague, Kirk Lothian’s Hammond organ, honky-tonk piano by Richard Young and Craig Arnott and Kenny Miller’s jungle beat. The Yahs boogie, while Ruff Cut shuffle; hear Frank O’Hagan’s respite from academia, Dana Dixon’s tender ballad and Gary Martin’s love song. Whatever your taste in blues, there is something to appeal on this CD.

Prior to its release, the CD has already garnered international interest, and Paul Jones from BBC Radio 2 has stated he is “eagerly looking forward to receiving this very significant album”. Dave Arcari has written about the CD, “it’s great to see a wide range of original blues and blues based material coming from a fantastic bunch of Scottish artists, who will no doubt make their presence known further afield.

Lewis Hamilton & The Boogie Brothers - 2 albums: Gambling Machine / Empty Roads

18 year old Lewis Hamilton has found himself sitting at the top in the Scottish ReverbNation blues charts for months now, and his name is spreading fast around the music scene in the rest of the UK. His debut album “Gambling Machine” has already had a very positive review in Blues Matters magazine, and the band have had articles in several local and national newspapers. They’ve been featured artists, and are now on the regular playlists of dozens of radio stations worldwide, and are one of the hardest working Blues/Rock trios in the UK. They already play over 120 paid gigs per year, and with the appointment of a new agent, are now breaking into England, Germany, Poland and the rest of Europe. They‘ve performed in various festivals all over Scotland, including The Dundee Blues Bonanza, Callander Jazz and Blues Festival, Montrose Music Festival, Arbroath Bell Rock Blues and Shetland Blues Festivals, but the highlight so far has been supporting guitar virtuoso Henrik Freischlader during the Scottish part of his UK tour.
