Sometimes a nice blues CD is enough to feel good. That is certainly the case with this album by the Brazilian duo Gustavo Andrade & Jefferson Gonçalves . Gustavo (guitar) and Jefferson (harmonica) are well-known names in the Brazilian blues world, but they may well be known to die hard blues fans in our country.
This album will certainly contribute to establish their name in our country. Assisted by bassist Fabio Mesquita and drummer Andre Obermuller, the duo delivers an album full of covers. All in a style close to The Fabulous Thunderbirds or The Nighthawks.

For example, it opens with the Willie Dixon classic Backdoor Man, which is given a nice languid funky performance with soggy harmonica and piercing guitar work. It is immediately noticeable that both the harmonica and the guitar solos are very modest and serving. There is absolutely no question of inflated egos here! The shuffle Ninety Nine , by Sonny Boy Williamson, sounds wonderfully relaxed with the warm harmonica sounds of Jefferson in the foreground.
Cold Cold Feeling is known from T-Bone Walker and in the Brazilian version the guitar of Gustavo takes center stage, supported by the howling harmonica of Jefferson. Little By Littleby Junior Wells gets a wonderfully languid funky treatment, which, partly because of the vocals, reminded me of John Mayall. In the slow grooving Going Down Slow (by St. Louis Jimmy Oden) Jefferson lets his harmonica scream and Gustavo's guitar sounds nice and bright. The version of JJ Cale's Sensitive Kind sounds quite bluesy with a funky undertone.
To conclude, these Brazilian bluesmen have opted for a menacingly swinging performance of Willie Dixon's Wang Dang Doodle .

This album proves that a good blues album doesn't always have to be sensationally good to convince. This duo delivers a wonderful blues album and will do well in many blues clubs.

Rodrigo Nézio & Duocondé Blues is a blues trio from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Together since 2004, they have two recorded CDs and two singles. The first CD was released in 2008 and bears the name of the trio. In the same year, Rodrigo Nézio & Duocondé Blues made several presentations promoting their CD which lead to that the trio earned the prize for Best Blues Album of 2008, the 1st Blues Banking Award.

The second CD, "Hello Pretty Baby", released in 2011, was done in partnership with the harp player Jefferson Gonçalves and contains songs from renowned authors like Willie Dixon, Charlie Musselwhite, Norton Buffalo and others. The quartet tries to show a side of blues that many people don't know about - the happy side of the blues.

The reader will know that I do not try to be obvious in this affirmation, but to reinforce that the blues upon arriving in the city adapted to their adversity of colors, smells and sounds, being soundtrack of essentially urban places. Its bipolarized energy, its distorted beauty of shop windows do not hide the vices, corruption, divinity and profane so common in the great centers. The blues is the now. It is being done every minute under various references. One such reference is New York with its multiplicity. The world is there, it is everywhere. One of the highlights is the presence of Itaal Shur that melts and sets each band with its hammond organ. Sensational, vital, unique.

All material was mixed in one of the sacred places of NY, Avatar Studios known until 1996 as The Power Station in Manhattan and became notorious as one of the best acoustic treatment studios in the world. Jefferson Gonçalves - 2 albums: 25 Anos De Carreira / Conexao Nordeste-Greia Ao Vivo

Jefferson Gançalves, native of Rio de Janeiro, began his musical career in the 1990 ́s, following a common road for many harmonica players: the blues. He right away changed his profession from a banker to a musician, began a band called Based in Blues and an acoustic trio called Blues, Etc., and recording with musicians of different musical genres became known as a consegrated name among Brazilian harmonica players- as well as a Brazilian representative in international harmonica events,like the Society for the Preservation and Advancement of Harmonicas (enconter in Detroit, Michigan in 1998)

However, Jefferson did not limit his musical horizons with American blues. He identified similarities between black american music and Northeastern Brazilian forró music based on rhythms such as baião, xaxada and xote. This perception enlarged his muisical horizons. He then began a serious study of the representative artists of Northeastern brazilian music. He discovered maracatu and rural samba and incorporated these elements in his first solo CD, “Greia” (2004). This musical mixture was well received by critics and public. “Greia” incorporates in the same “basket” the creativity of Bob Dylan and Luis Gonzagas, and the swing of Jackson do Pandeiro and Ray Charles. It ́s all music, all in all, and of extreme quality. Parallel to this, Jefferson improved his work in art education, centered on the blues, which he has been developing in Rio de Janeiro since 1996. He has released DVD ́s showing the fundamentals of the diatonic harmonica and has established himself as a reference of harmonica instruction in Brazil. He has taken his playing to diverse audiences, as well as diversifying his area of presentations, broadening his musical and educational horizons.

With distinctive and unmistakable style, that`s the way the harpist Jefferson Gonçalves, one of the biggest names on the music scene is getting national and international reconizement.

Jefferson started his solo career in 2004 with the successfully CD - Gréia. After his native country reconization, he got off to another US tour as sideman of the well know guitarist Gilson and the British singer The Wolf, August 2005. Jefferson Gonçalves established himself as a harmonica virtuoso and became a reference on his instrument for his fluent and original style.

Now in 2008, Jefferson Gonçalves is releasing his third solo CD, Ar Puro (Blues Time Records). As Jefferson describes, this album is the result of so many journeys by the northeast of Brazil, specialy the regions of Cariri Cearense, and Pernambuco. Sience 2001 he has been done research of these places` music, and found out many similar things, what proves that the music don`t have defenses. The musicians involved on thin project was just celebrating the music, with nothing else to worry about. No limits. Just the music. This feeling generated countless music trips, from the Mississippi river to the “sertão do Cariri”. The goal was only one, the blend of the tradition with the universality of the Brazilian music, says Jefferson Gonçalves.

These guys have all done there homework and really know how to play Chicago style blues. Jefferson Goncalves, the Brazilian harp master and Blues Time Records artist, reached international recognition as virtuoso of the harmonica. His fluidity and original style turned him up as one of the most important personalities on his native country’s harmonica scene, playing in countless recordings from blues to rock, MPB, pop, jingles and soundtracks, as well as hundreds of live performances. Jefferson is former member of one of the best Brazilian blues bands ever, the BASEADO EM BLUES that had 3 CDs released. Sponsored by the Harmonicas Hering since 1996, Jefferson works hard to promote and spread out the use of the harmonica. He’s style took the US magazines American Harmonica Newsletter (Oct/96) and Big City Blues Magazine (Jan/00), to point him as one of the great new bloods of the new generation of instrumentalists. In August of 1998, Jefferson teamed up Brazil in SPAH - Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica, in Detroit, USA, where he shared the stage with the German guitar slinger Chris Jones in the official 35 years celebration concert of SPAH. Back to Brazil, Jefferson put together the acoustic trio Blues Etc., releasing their debut album in 2001. This CD was considered the best acoustic blues recording in this year.

Since 1999, Jefferson tours with the American act Peter Madcat, playing in the best venues on the Rio / Săo Paulo scene, related to the Hering Blues Night project and to Blues Time Records, the blues label that he runs with the Brazilian blues guitarist Big Joe Manfra.

Jefferson has recorded with a lot of artists and bands like: Big Gilson, Belchior, Victor Biglione, Celso Blues Boy, Peter Madcat Ruth, Vanessa Barum, etc...

In 2002 he released 3 video lessons where he teaches all the technics of the instrument.

Jefferson’s first solo album GREIA was released in 2004 by the Brazilian blues label, Blues Time Records, featuring, some very special guest as Airto Moreira, Norton Buffalo, Peter Madcat Ruth, Jamie Wood, Big Gilson, Johnny Rover, Zé da Flauta, Tavares da gaita and Carlos Malta, among others.
