Various Artists - Shout, Brother, Shout!

This trip into the Trumpet archives has unearthed this R&B collection. These artists were then (1951-1954) learning about changes in their previous musical circle and trying to find ways to fit them into the music. Label owner Lillian McCurry tried an end run on racial stereotypes by pairing a white hillbilly/country singer with a black jump band. Sherman "Blues" Johnson & His Clouds of Joy blended R&B with conventional blues shouting.

Perhaps the CD's finest music comes from Willie Love & His 3 Aces. Love, swaggering, demanding, accusing and declaring the way things are going to be, brings some fire and heat to the proceedings. The set has authoritative liner notes and excellent sound, plus 22 cuts. /Ron Wynn, AllMusic
