In 2020, Budda Power Blues expand from a Power Trio to a Power Sextet. João Martins (Sax), Rui Pedro Silva (Trumpet) and João Andresen (Harp), join forces with Budda Guedes, Nico Guedes and Carl Minnemann, for special shows, bringing the band more towards New Orleans and the Stax and Chess Records classic sound.

But the band keeps its identity, just a lot more sound mass, and arrangements, give the show a deluxe energy, with all the power Budda Power Blues is known for. The Jam now extends to six musicians, so a bigger party on stage is the result.

"The Blues Experience" is the result of an unusual partnership between, what is considered the best national blues band, Budda Power Blues and the jazz diva, Maria João.

We're talking about a Blues record, but anyone who might think it's an exercise in style must be disappointed. It's about 21st century Blues, widely influenced by all the sounds that are part of the daily life of Maria João, Budda Guedes, Nico Guedes, the players on this record.

Composed of 10 songs that deal with very personal and often autobiographical subjects, "The Blues Experience" is a record that goes through several languages ??of the blues, the result of the challenge launched by Budda Guedes to Maria João. This album is released under the seal of Mobydick Records .

Despite being largely influenced by the roots of Blues, the sound of Budda Power Blues is not limited to the classics, considering Budda Guedes as a citizen of the new millennium and therefore obliging himself to look for new directions within the genre, as all the others have done. Bluesman that preceded him.

Budda Power Blues - Fifteen Long Years

Size: 25,3 MB
Time: 10:45
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 2019
Styles: Blues Rock
Art: Front

01. Fifteen Long Years (2:29)
02. Have Mercy (2:56)
03. Take My Soul (2:55)
04. Blues Is A Feeling (2:24)

Budda Power Blues have a new record, and it’s called “Fifteen Long Years”. It’s a celebration record, and the first in Vinil format. Since it marks the band’s 15th birthday, it’s a collectors edition, limited and numbered, with a digital download card, so you can listen to the music anywhere.

BUDDA POWER BLUES were born in 2004 with the goal of being a laboratory band, where the three musicians could adventure into the improvisation world without any commercial compromises.

But soon the band took off and got bigger than any of its members ever imagined. They recorded the first record in 2005, in Ferro, Covilha, naming it “Wanted”. It includes 3 of Budda’s own creations and several covers. This record sold out pretty soon, and in 2008 they release their 2nd record“Busted”, at Gaia Blues Festival, where they performed alongside Shemekia Copeland and Sherman Robertson.

This 2nd album features 3 of Budda’s original songs and 10 other very personal twisted versions of some classics. At this time the band starts to get known for their twisted covers and their power improvisation and long jams, being able to be simultaneously musical and entertaining.

The band tours all Portuguese festivals and in 2010 and release their 3rd record, honoring the 40th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys record. They named it “Kind of Gypsys” because, as usual, the band turned Hendrix’s record upside down and completely changed the arrangements. In order to keep the spirit of the original record, Budda and his band mates went to studio with no previous rehearsals, and for two days they worked and recorded live on tape the entire album, jamming and creating on the flow of the moment. It was the first record they made live and with no overdubs, and it captures the real spirit of this power Trio, and of the original Band of Gypsys. The mixing approach was also influenced by that period of late 60’s and early 70’s, as the drums are on the left, the guitar is on the right and the vocal and bass are at the center. The record was remixed and remastered in 2011, with a more conventional mix, after the first edition sold out.

Budda signs all the lyrics and songwriting and Maria João offers her incredible voice and talent to the characters in each song. “The Blues Experience” is exactly that!! An experience in the fascinating world of the Blues, where Maria João lives behind her Jazz Background to embrace a song oriented record, full of very personal stories and thoughts, a lot of times sharing the role with Budda, considered to be the best Portugueses Blues artist.
The raw sound and energy of Budda Power Blues meets Maria João’s soft and gentle voice to create a new sound in a very special record.
It’s a Blues record but make no mistakes. We are in the XXI century, so there’s a lot of influences in it, due to all of the music Budda Guedes, Nico Guedes and Maria João listen to.
10 songs with a very personal approach, usually autobiographic, makes “The Blues Experience” a very eclectic record, traveling through many Blues styles.

Members:
BUDDA: Born in Covilhã Portugal, Budda soon showed interest in music and show biz. At the age of 14 he picked a guitar for the first time and never let it go since. In 2000, after being in bands for 6 years he started singing in his own band: The Red House Blues band. He wanted to better understand singers quest to hear themselves on stage. Until this day he still doesn’t understands why can´t singers hear themselves on stage!!

NICO: Although he always wanted to be a drummer, he started as a percussionist in the band Big Fat Mamma. Just in 2004, after having meeting Tó Barbot, Nico assumes the drummers seat just for fun. He’s there ever since! Greatly influenced by Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham and Singer/drummer Buddy Miles, Nico is a power drummer using every cymbal as a crash even if it’s the size of a truck tire.

TÓ BARBOT: Bass player since the age of 14, Tó was born in Porto and played with his first band, Feed, since 1993. An infectious funk groove influenced by Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers bass player) and a rock attitude influenced by his favorite band (Pearl Jam) makes him a power bass player able to fill the space left whenever the guitar is soloing.
