This album from West Coast via Paris blues guitarist Goldwasser has a circuitous history. Originally recorded in 2001, it was finally released -- but only on the German Crosscut label -- in 2003. It was then given a new lease on life in 2007 when co-producer Randy Chortkoff reissued it in a re-sequenced version with fresh graphics and two bonus tracks on his Delta Groove label. The set is a bit of a mishmash too, with different backing musicians bouncing between styles that both pay tribute to classic blues forms and expand the genre's boundaries on world-influenced tracks such as the Afro-beat of "Don't Take Away My Love." Goldwasser tells the story of his professional career in the spoken word intro to the instrumental late-night groove of "Three Sisters," recounting the various artists he has played with and clubs he has worked in, ending with the titular venue. He also touches base on New Orleans second-line funk with "Petit a Petit (L'Oiseau Fait Son Nid)," sung in his native French, and shifts into a stripped-down Jimmy Reed vamp on a cover of Reed's "I'm a Love You." Goldwasser also successfully takes on soul-blues with a Latin, Santana-styled flair on "I Can't Stand It" and hits Peter Green territory on the instrumental "Melba's Bump." He shifts into lowdown swamp mode on "Well, Well, Josephine," one of the disc's most fiery tracks. It is all impeccably played and Goldwasser is certainly a talented guitarist and vocalist. But neither his voice nor tone is distinctive enough to make blues fan's ears perk up when heard in a pack of similarly gifted players. The disc succeeds on its own terms, though, driven by the artist's obvious enthusiasm for the project. Ultimately, there isn't much terribly unique about Bluju, but Goldwasser acquits himself admirably and over the course of the hourlong playing time hits enough high points to please any contemporary blues fan. However, as of 2007, six years after it was first recorded, there hasn't been a follow-up release. ~Review by Hal Horowitz

Joey Gilmore's love affair with the guitar began in his teens. “In the town that I lived in, there was a barbershop,” Gilmore reminisces. “And the barber that owned the shop was a sanctified preacher. He was a minister, and he had this little flat-bodied guitar. It was electric, no amplifier to it. And he would bring it to the shop with him, and he was trying to learn how to play. So, I would get to the barbershop early whenever I would go to get my hair cut, or even after school, I would hang around at the barbershop, because I wanted to get my hands on that guitar. I would take the guitar and they had these old wooden benches. I would lay the guitar on top of the wooden bench and when you would strum the strings, the wood, the bench, would vibrate, and the floor would, the sound would resonate, and you could hear it without the amplifier. I learned just from watching him.” Young Gilmore tried to keep his obsession with the instrument from his church going aunt, who was raising him, but word of the talented boy who played at the barbershop eventually got back to her.”

Decades later and established as a Florida legend, Joey Gilmore provides a highlight at Blues Festivals and night clubs all over the world as one of the best soul-blues and R&B singers in the business. Joey Gilmore has shared the stage with Such Greats As James Brown, Etta James, Bobby Bland, Little Milton, Johnny Taylor and numerous others. In January 2006 Joey Gilmore won one of the most distinguished and internationally coveted awards in all of blues. The IBC. Joey Gilmore outscored all artist worldwide while showcasing his amazing talent at a blues industry event. Making him the best unsigned Artist on the planet. In 2008 Joey Gilmore was awarded the Blewzzy award for best song, BLUES ALL OVER YOU. In 2015 Joey Gilmore was honored with Latin World Talent Lifetime Achievement Award. The album is produced by sound guru Attie Bauw (o.a. De Staat, Raccoon, Judas Priest, The Scorpions) and recorded in the Bullet Sound Studios (NL).

The collective wish of the band and Attie was to make an album that would not yield to the usual production hurries, but with an eye for detail and an old school production.

And they succeeded! In the studio there was time for abundant experimenting. Ideas and songs received time to mature and flourish.

The result is a wayward, mystical and raw record: an alternative mix of blues, grunge and country music. Musically the band is inspired by The Black Keys, Tom Waits, Jack White, PJ Harvey andNirvana on one hand and on the other hand by Lee Dorsey, Otis Redding, Nina Simone en Ike & Tina Turner.

Martha Jane Settler grows up in The Middle of Nowhere. With the blues, country and old myths of the country side in the pocket she describes her encounters with the demons that appear to live in the big city. When guitarist Maarten van der Grinten crosses her path, an adventure starts -of writing and working out songs.

Martha Jane: “When we put our worlds together, it brought pure magic. We catch the ideas that are floating in the air and we turn it into a song.”

The different background of both musicians provides the remarkable melange of musical styles, the freedom and adventure of jazz, the love for a good song with content and head and tail. The sound of Hello Demon is blues oriented, not the least through the unpolished, deep vocals of Martha Jane and the extensive use of dobro and slide by Van der Grinten. A poetic mixture with raw American roots.

With the resulting repertoire Martha Jane and Maarten founded the band Martha Jane & the Talisman, with Sun Mi Hong on drums and Mark Haanstra on bass. Martha Jane is the frontwoman and the magic -the talisman- appears when the band starts to play.

Nothing on this set rivals his best 1960s-era recordings for the Delmark label (those can be found on The Legend of Sleepy John Estes), but this album is still worthwhile. This album presents a classic blues situation; the tattered bluesman, trying to find a bunk for the night, and preferably some feminime companionship as well. Estes is joined by the most sympathetic accompanists he would ever know: Hammie Nixon on harmonica and Yank Rachell on mandolin and second guitar. Michael Bloomfield, then a fiery young guitarist just appearing on the Chicago scene, joins in on a few tunes, too. But not even his presence can rouse the somnolent Estes. Not long after these recordings, Estes, Nixon and Rachell appeared at the 1964 Newport Folk Festival.

This is one of the best acid-rock CDs ever. The other reviewer fails to do it justice. "True Religion" is stunning, the guitar uplifting, Jorma's singing evocative and mysterious. The song has that sublime quality in which every note seems exactly right, and the emotional appeal of the old gospel song is inescapable. "Death Don't Have No Mercy" is even better, even more gripping. There's a way in which this album is about deep spiritual matters, as well as music. The psychedelic movement was about the deepest issues of existence and life itself. In its essence, it was a spiritual movement, and these gospel songs are about the same, and they have a natural affinity.
Kaukonen's guitar work on "Death" is exquisite, hypnotic, flawless. Then Pete Sears joins in with one of the greatest piano riffs ever, and you have a masterwork. Pete Sears is one of the great keyboard artists and he is at his peak on this album.
I have a number of Hot Tuna albums, and I love them as well, but they do not compare to this astounding CD.

Quah -- Jorma Kaukonen's (guitar/vocal) solo debut effort -- was recorded and issued shortly after the dissolution of Jefferson Airplane in 1974. In contrast to the sonic indulgences of Grace Slick's Manhole or Paul Kantner and Jefferson Starship's Blows Against the Empire, Kaukonen retreated back to his folk-blues roots along with vocalist Tom Hobson -- who contributes to "Blue Prelude" and "Sweet Hawaiian Sunshine" -- to create this intricate acoustic masterwork. From the highly original artwork -- courtesy of Kaukonen's then-wife Margareta -- to the stark and beautiful melodies within the grooves, Quah is unlike any other recording from the era. Much of the album's vibe is strikingly similar to the final contributions that Kaukonen made to Jefferson Airplane. The most obvious and direct correlation being "Third Week at the Chelsea," which maintains much of the same intimacy as the tracks "Genesis," "Flying Clouds," and "Song for the North Star." Likewise, his admiration for folk, blues, and gospel -- which had first surfaced on the self-titled Hot Tuna debut release -- informs the content of this disc on his cover of Rev. Gary Davis' "I Am the Light of This World" as well as the haunting traditional blues "Another Man Done Gone"and Blind Boy Blake's understatedly ribald "Police Dog Blues." Tom Hobson's inimitable vocal delivery stands apart from Kaukonen's in a somewhat theatrical manner. His take on the noir torch song "Blue Prelude" could not be more dissimilar to the practically giddy "Sweet Hawaiian Sunshine." Yet both are equally functional in the context of the rest of the album. In 1987 Relix magazine issued a very limited pressing of Quah on CD. Tragically, it was not re-pressed and remains near the top of want lists from enthusiasts eager to retire worn vinyl copies. This disc is a timeless and highly underrated statement from one of the world's premier guitarists. It is worthy -- if not quietly demanding -- of repeated listening.

Dawkins's appearance at a club in Reykjavik was effected by the singer and writer Chicago Beau, who takes his place on four of the ten tracks. Petursson is evidently at home with this sort of music but the bassist sometimes drags, and the guest guitar is under-recorded. Jimmy Dawkins played and sings on five tracks. In The Blue Shadows line-up are some of the most respected and seasoned members in the Blues community. Javier Matos out front on vocals and guitar, with the original Blasters rhythm section of John Bazz on bass and Bill Bateman on drums.

With this inimitable line-up, the new project will follow in the roots of their early influences, as well as the music created by themselves for over four decades.

The Blue Shadows were originally formed by Bill Bateman and featured many legendary musicians such as Lester Butler, Paul Size, the Bartel Brothers (Johnny Ray and Dave Lee), and others.
Javier met Bill after Lester passed and they reformed the band. Javier had his own style with his prewar blues strengths and influences and together they forged a sound on the hardened streets of Hollywood and became part of the LA Sound that included bands like Canned Heat and the Blasters. While applying deep blues to the modern culture of the times, they respected the past..with an eye to the future.

Cheap Tequila was founded by guitarist Matthias Schaaf in September 1979th For the band name a title of Blues guitarist Johnny Winter was the inspiration. If feelings are to be expressed in music, blues in all its facets today continues to be the most appropriate music style. As different as their music preferences are in the past and present as well, it is clear that love of the blues the foundation of their musical work and their friendship.

Mike Andersen (born Mikkel Dybdal Andersen, February 25, 1977, Aarhus, Denmark) is a Danish blues and soul songwriter, guitarist, singer and bandleader of the Mike Andersen Band.

Already at 12 years old blues, rhythm & blues and African-American music had taken a firm grip on Mike Andersen. While everyone around him in Denmark was listening to a mix of Wham, Duran Duran and Madonna, he practiced guitar along with the LPs of Lightning Hopkins, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Otis Rush and many more. Later, as Mike focused on voices and words he ventured into the soul stars and Al Green, Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye were added to his collection of vinyl.

At 20, Mike met the blues guitarist Otis Grand. Otis and his six piece band perfectly framed the music Mike had listened to his whole life, from raw urban blues to sweaty '60s soul. Otis invited the young Mike Andersen to one of his major shows in England where he participated as a guitarist in The Otis Grand All Star Revue at the 'The Great British R & B Festival in Colne, England. When Mike returned home to Denmark he had a firm resolve to form a six piece blues and soul band of his own.

Knocking around the blues and soul scene of Aarhus, Mike soon cranked up his Blues Crew band and quickly caught the attention of older, more established Danish musicians. Soon he formed The Mike Andersen Band whose first album, My Love For The Blues was released in 2002 as one of the last 15 years most striking Danish blues albums. It was imprinted with the relentless uncompromising attitude which has characterized his career since (1997). Another significant studio album, Tomorrow released in 2004 and The Mike Andersen Band EP of 2006 followed along with hundreds of concerts across Europe, including opening for The Fabulous Thunderbirds and no less than three times for the legend B.B. King.

The 5th Annual Independent Music Awards (2005) winner in the blues songs category was Mike and the band's Stuck With Me.

During the last half of the decade, while honing his skills working with a variety of Danish local and international musicians, Mike was busy creating a new CD to show off his band's new sound. Two plus years in the making, when echoes was released in early 2010 Mike was heralded as "an original interpreter of the old qualities" by the music editor of the nation's second largest newspaper, Politiken. GAFFA, a leading publisher of music news in Denmark for almost thirty years wrote that echoes "is so far his best. Perhaps because . . . he dares to mix his interest in and enjoyment of the blues with his interest and pleasure in soul music." Three days later the countries leading pop radio station DR P4 named the new CD their Album of the Week. Then noted music journalist Peter Widmer wrote in the Odense Music Library's news about "Mike Andersen's voice that has evolved … with great range, and is primarily in the center of echoes, with lyrics about love, jealousy and passion as the main themes. In a bluesinthenorthwest.com review, Grahame Rhodes reviewed thusly: "Echoes comes highly recommended for those who like their music soulful and full of good grooves and top notch songs.

In Trumpet Magazine, a Danish Music Union publication, Mike tells the story of how he was able to connect with the Grammy award winning album producer and mixer Russell Elevado who final mixed echoes.

What could a teenager possibly know about the blues? Traditionally the blues are about years of hard living and paying a hard price for it, and about serious lovin' and serious loss. Parodies, which frequently are based on kernels of truth, tell us that a bluesman worth the name must know about women, whiskey, and jail, and not necessarily in that order. But all these assumptions and kernels of truth fly right out the window when it comes to the youthful Canadian blues guitarist known as JW-Jones (and yes, the hyphen is in the right place). Born in Ottawa, he wasn't yet 20 years old when he triumphed in a hometown competition known as the Blues Guitar Riff-Off in 1999. Jones built on his early success and with a band he had pulled together the previous year of musicians who were about as young as he was or younger, the guitarist and his JW-Jones Blues Band set out to record an album. He debuted with Defibrillatin' in 2000. The CD features some numbers that were recorded at home, some that were laid down in a studio as demos, as well as a couple of live numbers. While some critics groused a tiny bit about the quality of the release's sound, they quickly followed the complaint with superlatives for Jones' talent. His band is comprised of "Southside" Steve Marriner, the champion in 1999 of the Blues Harp Blow-Off in Ottawa, on harmonica; Pierre Chretien on organ and piano; drummer Steve Hiscox, and upright bass player Nathan Morris. Jones penned seven of the debut album's tracks. Chretien wrote one song, as did Marriner. Before turning to the guitar, Jones was initially interested in the drums. A change of heart brought him to the guitar after he found himself intently listening to and watching an Ottawa guitarist named Tony D. The guitarist's moves so impressed Jones that he hammered questions at Tony D after his shows. The working musician took the time to answer the teenager's questions, provide tips, and recommend a list of recordings. The switch to guitar from drums was cemented when Jones' grandparents gave him an electric guitar late in 1996. Keyboardist Chretien is credited with bringing a jazz influence to Jones' and the band's sound. Jones met Marriner through the Johnny Russell Band when both played with the outfit, as they still do. In 2001, the Maple Blues Awards honored Defibrillatin' with a nomination. The following year, the Maple Blues Awards listed Jones as a nominee for New Artist of the Year and named Marriner as a finalist for Harp Player of the Year. He followed those achievements up with 2002's Bogart's Bounce, featuring help from Fabulous Thunderbirds Kim Wilson and Gene Taylor. ~Linda Seida

There's a fierce, visceral quality to Skoller's music. He's a bit of a cynic, sometimes angry, always opinionated. You can hear and feel his personality in his music. Born a New Yorker, he moved to Chicago on 1987. His mature harmonica playing led a number of musicians to take him into their bands; Deitra Farr, Big Time Sarah, Jimmy Rogers, Big Daddy Kinsey, John Primer, Bernard Allison, H-Bomb Ferguson and Larry Garner. In 1992 Skoller started his own band. This cd is a killer, full of keen observations, driving rhythms, desperate textures and coutionary messages. Skoller has a free flow of expression that comes from maturity, expierence and hard work. He tells his own story. His take on the blues tradition is about letting his own voice come through, his culture, his experience.

Texas Rhody Blues, featuring Jimmie Vaughan and Duke Robillard, is the third Knickerbocker All-Stars CD release. The project was supported by the Knickerbocker Music Center, a non-profit organization formed in partnership with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School. The Knickerbocker Music Center will have an exciting performance venue and an exceptional center for music education.
This CD has its roots in The Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals of the late 1950s and early ‘60s which turned many white soul searchers on to blues, rhythm and blues, and jump blues. In 1963, Blues at Newport was recorded live at the Newport Folk Festival, which featured many of the greatest folk and delta blues musicians. A young woman attending college in Boston heard it and was hooked. Her name is Bonnie Raitt. The next Newport Folk Festival brought in two of the most influential Texas bluesmen: Lightnin’ Hopkins and Mance Lipscomb.
The talented guitarist, Mike Bloomfield who deserves much more recognition for pioneering blues music, offered blues workshops at the festival with Lipscomb and Hopkins. Bloomfield performed with Paul Butterfield and made rock ‘n’ roll history when he handed Bob Dylan a Fender Stratocaster and Dylan played three “electrified” songs with Sam Lay, Barry Goldberg and Al Kooper.
A young Rhode Island blues aficionado also was hooked. His name is Duke Robillard. The Texas/Rhody blues connection was further developed when Rhode Islander Johnny Nicholas joined Asleep at the Wheel as vocalist and won a Grammy in 1978. At the time, Roomful of Blues, the Fabulous Thunderbirds and the Cobras – Stevie Ray Vaughan’s band – were the hottest acts to play in Austin and Westerly, RI. Rhode Islander Fran Christina, the original Roomful drummer, joined the Thunderbirds followed by Roomful’s bass player, the late Preston Hubbard. When Jimmie Vaughan left the Thunderbirds, Robillard took over on guitar for three years.
The climax of the Texas/Rhody Connection came when Stevie Ray played with the Roomful Horns at Carnegie Hall in 1997.
Texas Rhody Blues is a celebration of the great Texas Bluesmen and the generation of tremendous blues musicians who followed, of which there are too many to list. There is no question that Jimmie Vaughan and Duke Robillard should be hall of famers and the bookends of the Texas/Rhody blues connection. Please play this recording loud!

Chicago guitarist Jimmy Dawkins would just as soon leave his longtime nickname "Fast Fingers" behind. It was always something of a stylistic misnomer anyway; Dawkins' West Side-styled guitar slashes and surges, but seldom burns with incendiary speed. Dawkins' blues are generally of the brooding, introspective variety -- he doesn't engage in flashy pyrotechnics or outrageous showmanship.
It took a long time for Dawkins to progress from West Side fixture to nationally known recording artist. He rode a Greyhound bus out of Mississippi in 1955, dressing warmly to ward off the Windy City's infamous chill factor. Only trouble was, he arrived on a sweltering July day! Harpist Billy Boy Arnold offered the newcomer encouragement, and he eventually carved out a niche on the competitive West Side scene (his peers included Magic Sam and Luther Allison).

Sam introduced Dawkins to Delmark Records boss Bob Koester. Fast Fingers, Dawkins' 1969 debut LP for Delmark -- still his best album to date -- was a taut, uncompromising piece of work that won the Grand Prix du Disque de Jazz from the Hot Club of France in 1971 as the year's top album. Andrew "Big Voice" Odom shared the singing and Otis Rush the second guitar duties on Dawkins' 1971 encore, All for Business. But after his Delmark LP Blisterstring, Dawkins' subsequent recordings lacked intensity until 1991's oddly titled Kant Sheck Dees Bluze for Chicago's Earwig Records. Al Lerman has a nice feel for the blues, and he does a yeoman’s work on this album. He writes the material, sing, plays both acoustic and electric guitar and blows a nasty harmonica. He gets support by Alec Fraser-Omar Tunnoch/b, Al Cross-Bucky Berger/dr and Lance Anderson/p with the feel keeping earthy and relaxed.

His voice is wonderfully rough and tumbled, and he mixes it well with the harp on lazy and slinky pieces like “It Takes Me All Night Long” and the steady “Gonna Have To Wait.” The team gets gritty with piano and acoustic guitar with “Totally Out Of Whack” and some good old Crescent City boogie takes place on “Kokomo” while the raucous guitar takes you to Chicago on ”Slow Burn”. The band can boogie as well, shuffling on “Don’t Push Your Mess On Me” and “Any Way You Want” as Lerman picks and grins like a juke joint junkie. Lots of good smouldering sounds here. ~by George W. The list of special guests who appear on Taj Mahal's Maestro is hardly what one would expect from a veteran bluesman. Among the special guests are Ziggy Marley, Los Lobos, Ben Harper, and African pop vocalist Angélique Kidjo - not exactly a conventional blues lineup. But then, Mahal is hardly a conventional blues artist. He has been providing eclectic, far-reaching albums for a long time, and that spirit of adventure is alive and well on this 2008 release (which marks his 40th year as a recording artist - Mahal provided his first album in 1968).

No one expects Mahal's albums to be the work of a blues purist; in fact, Mahal (who plays guitar, harmonica, banjo, and ukulele on Maestro) is the opposite of a blues purist. While Maestro has its share of electric blues, the veteran singer also gets into everything from soul ("Further on Down the Road") and early R&B (Fats Domino's "Hello Josephine") to reggae ("Black Man, Brown Man," "Never Let You Go") and African pop ("Zanzibar"). The latter features Kidjo on lead vocals and Toumani Diabaté on the kora (a traditional African instrument), while Los Lobos appear on "Never Let You Go" and the humorous "TV Mama" (which is among the disc's straight-ahead blues offerings).

Mahal, true to form, is all over the place stylistically on this 57-minute CD - and yet, Maestro never sounds the least bit unfocused. Being eclectic comes naturally to Mahal, who sees to it that Maestro is a consistently engaging celebration of his 40th year as a recording artist. /Alex Henderson, AllMusic

An eclectic bluesman would seem to be a contradiction in terms, but Taj Mahal, who has moved through the worlds of folk, rock, and pop to reach his present categorization, fits the description, and here he takes several pop and R&B oldies that came from blues roots - "Ooh Poo Pah Doo," "Lonely Avenue," "What Am I Living For?", "Let the Four Winds Blow" - and returns them to those roots.

"Chicago" Bob Nelson ( July 4, 1944, Bogalusa, Louisiana January 17, 2013], United States) was an American blues musician.

Chicago Bob Nelson was a harmonica player and singer who is known for amalgamating Louisiana and Chicago blues styles. He was singular in being mentored by traditional rural southern blues harmonica practitioners and melding their approach with urban Chicago playing, thus creating his own distinctive sound. Nelson died on January 18, 2013.

His family was a musical family. Bob's father, Versie Nelson, played upright bass and harmonica. From an early age Bob accompanied Versie to house parties, backyard barbecues and Saturday night fish fries around Bogalusa where cajun music, zydeco and blues were performed. Nelson recalled, "It was just people eating, jamming and having a good time!" Nelson began playing the harmonica at age 8. As a youngster he was encouraged and instructed by Versie's musical cohorts, Louisiana blues legends (and Excello recording artists) Slim Harpo (James Moore) and Lazy Lester (Leslie Johnson). Nelson credited Harpo, Lester, Sonny Boy Williamson II (Aleck Miller) and Jimmy Reed (all of whom he knew) as his primary influences, as well as Sonny Boy (John Lee) Williamson whose recordings he studied. Through listening to these artists, Nelson learned to use his instrument as a "second voice" to interpret and elucidate the emotion and themes of a song. Trips to Chicago to visit family were a major part of Nelson's childhood.

By the early 1960s he had taken up residence in Chicago. There he met and performed with Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Earl Hooker and Muddy Waters. The latter, having run into Nelson at nearly every blues venue in Chicago, bestowed upon him the moniker that continues to identify him today. Nelson later performed with Muddy Waters at the Newport Folk Festival. Throughout his career Nelson has toured extensively with Luther "Snake Boy" Johnson, Tinsley Ellis and John Lee Hooker. ~Wikipedia

We've already had an American in Paris, but a Dutchman in Vienna? And one who has dedicated himself, body and soul, to American blues and roots music? Okay, Hans Theessink (pronounced Tay-sink) did not pick the easiest way to do this, but he has done so with a certain degree of single-mindedness.

Like others of his generation, in the early 1960‘s a love of the Blues took hold of the man whom Bo Diddley described as "one helluva guitar player", and it has not let go since. Above all, the country blues with its earthy and heartfelt sound impressed Hans Theessink and played a major role in his development as a musician. His roots are unmistakenly in the blues, but has also been influenced by countless other aspects of roots music. This musical variety has become a trademark of Hans Theessink, who as a songwriter has succeeded in building bridges to the present in addressing issues which reflect the reality of the here and now.
Hans is probably Europe's bluesexport Nr.1 - one of the top blues and roots musicians worldwide who has entertained audiences around the globe during a musical career that spans over more than 35 years. The world's leading bluespaper - US magazine Blues Revue wrote: "Hans Theessink is an international blues treasure. He is one of the world's pre-eminent country pickers and his warm baritone expresses blues".

Theessink's first recording was an EP in 1970. Since then his music has continually developed and so far Hans has released 20 albums, a songbook, a blues-guitar instruction video and a DVD. His CDs are guaranteed award winners. "Banjoman", the tribute project to Derroll Adams, that Hans produced with Arlo Guthrie, was recently nominated for a Grammy.
In 2004 Hans got the Austrian Amadeus award for "Songs from the Southland", a tribute to the music of the American South - a constant source of inspiration and companion on his musical journey. A Danish Music Award for best bluesalbum followed in 2005. His most recent CD "Bridges" - a recording with the new Hans Theessink Band, is again nominated for the Amadeus in the category best Blues-, Jazz-, Roots-, Folk-album. Hans' latest work is a DVD "Live in Concert" - "A Blues & Roots Revue" - it shows the Hans Theessink Band in action + lots of other special features. Angela Brown is certainly a Blues Diva – "raucous, raunchy and rumbustious" are just some of the words used to describe this great singer. Born in Chicago, Illinois. Angela began her musical career by singing gospel music in church and performing with school choirs. And, although she was aware of the blues, she didn´t devote herself to singing them until around 1980, when she played the role of Gertrude “Ma” Rainey in a stage musical. Inspired by the music, she worked, honing her craft, in numerous Chicago blues clubs, often accompanied by pianists Little Brother Montgomery, Erwin Helfer or Lovie Lee, or sharing the stage with her music friends, the likes of Blind John Davis, Pinetop Perkins, B.B. King, Georgie Fame, Long John Baldry... the list goes on. Her Debut recordings were released by the Red Beans label in 1983, and the first album under her own name was made in 1987 for the German label, Schubert Records. She was dubbed "The Bessie Smith of the Eighties" and later the 90´s, a deserved title given her strong renditions of vaudeville blues material. Her powerful voice is also well-suited to more modern blues and jazz styles, becoming a popular attraction at festivals all over the world; not only vocally, but for her onstage presence and oomph!! Angela has been included in The Guinness Book, Who´s Who of Blues, and the new Virgin´s Encyclopedia of the Blues. Making her one of the few Living Legends in Blues Music today. Past years have seen Angela voted in France "International Chanteuse De L´Annee 1999", and in the U.K. "Overseas Female Artist of the Year" and her album Thinking Out Loud with her English band The Mighty 45s was runner up as the UK Album of the Year 2000. 2005 C.D. Edd 'Catfish' Kray:
Catfish picked up his first guitar on Halloween 1958. He took his first private lesson that afternoon from Mike Trivison at Katell's Music Center in Garfield Heights Ohio. He played his first gig in 1962. at Ronnie's Bar on the west side of Cleveland, for a whopping $6., After school each day he'd sit in his room and practice for hours.

Catfish (known as Edd before 5 PM), was born in 1946 in Cleveland Ohio, shortly after his dad's return from a stint in Normandy, and Omaha Beach. He grew up in a strongly ethnic neighborhood, and was exposed to live music weekly at Polish weddings. By the late 60’s his bands were competing with Joe Walsh, The James Gang, The Raspberries and Eric Carmen on the local Cleveland Teen Club circuit. His first recording was Big Beat 65 which received local airplay back in Cleveland.

The blues came naturally from Catfish’s guitar, since 1958, but had been harnessed by the needs to play commercially, and fit in with other musicians doing rock and roll. It was time to get back to the blues in a more pure and simple form. Fortunately, at this time the Catfish & the Crawlers arose. Five musicians with an understanding of the blues and the talent to make playing the blues not just acceptable, but HOT.

For a decade (1998-2008) Catfish & the Crawlers entertained blues fans in Colorado, playing every blues club in town, numerous blues festivals, TV shows, and producing 3 demo CD's. Special mention needs to be made of our first lady vocalist, Loretta Erickson, who was the primary factor in making the band such a huge success. Catfish has been a regular contributor to the Colorado Blues Societies Newsletter, "The Holler", writing articles and reviews almost monthly for the past decade.

Larea Edwards:
"Her daddy was a preacher but her mama was an ally cat". Denver's Larea Edwards joins th Catfish family after years of experience in gospel and soul music. Both in the studio and onstage she has thrilled Colorado with her voice. Larea is very active in her church choir and yes, her daddy was really a preacher man.
