Picking up from the first volume, which featured prewar blues harmonica tracks recorded between 1927 and 1941, this second installment covers the post-war period from 1946 to 1952, and includes interesting sides from Jazz Gillum ("Take One More Chance with Me"), Little Walter (the stately "Sad Hours"), Sonny Terry (his half-field holler "Harmonica Rhumba" is truly amazing), and the one-man bands Doctor Ross ("My Bebop Gal") and Joe Hill Louis ("Walkin' Talkin" Blues"). Mixing well-known artists with the not so well-known, this interesting compilation pulls back the curtains on a seldom investigated corner and era of the blues harmonica, and taken with the first volume, makes a fine survey of the little instrument that could. ~Review by Steve Leggett
