Recorded throughout the pandemic at Greaseland in San Jose, CA with the help of perennial Blues Award winner/Grammy nominee and multi-instrumentalist Kid Andersen, “Just Gettin’ Good” showcases Mighty Mike at his guitar-slinging, soul-singing and storytelling best. 12 original songs retain the energetic live-show feel throughout, with stellar performances by some of the Bay Area’s top musicians including Steve Ehrmann (Roy Rogers, John Lee Hooker), Tony Stead (Tommy Castro, Sly and The Family Stone), Paul Revelli (Joe Louis Walker, Chuck Prophet), D’mar (Little Richard, Rick Estrin and the Nightcats), June Core (Charlie Musselwhite, Robert Jr. Lockwood) and Austin DeLone (Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe). Jerry Jemmott, John Nemeth, Terry Hanck and The Sons of the Soul Revivers all contribute mightily in guest appearances. The knockout punch may well be delivered by Mike’s beautiful and talented partner Ms. Kimmy Pickens, featured in more than one Star-Is-Born musical and songwriting moment.

Much like Schermer’s live shows, the album runs a gamut of music styles from blues to soul to funk to rock & roll, country, Americana and nearly every stop in between.

Mighty Mike Schermer has been a fixture on the Bay Area Blues scene for over 20 years. In addition to a solid solo career, with two critically acclaimed CDs and an award winning single, he has become highly sought after as the go to guy sideman for such heavyweights as Elvin Bishop, Bonnie Raitt, Charlie Musselwhite, Maria Muldaur, Howard Tate, Angela Strehli, Sista Monica, Shana Morrison and many, many more. Now a long awaited compilation CD, Right Hand Man Vol. 1, chronicles Schermer s career alongside many of these top artists. 5 brand new, previously unreleased songs join 8 live and studio gems from the archives to create a deep mix of blues, soul and funky R&B. It s like taking 13 of the best blues CD s you can find, loading them in your Ipod and hitting the shuffle button.

Holding the album together however, the strain that seamlessly runs through each killer track, is Mighty Mike's stellar guitar playing - at times searing, at others subtle and tasty, always right in the pocket. And while Right Hand Man Vol. 1 is a must have for any fan of blues guitar, it is the songs and the singing that really set this compilation apart. "I love burning blues guitar, but I m also a sucker for good songs and great singers" says Schermer. "I've been fortunate to spend most of my career working with some of the best vocalists in the blues, so I wanted this CD to represent that as well".

There's a lot of interplay between the guitar and the vocals, call and response, that comes from a long standing tradition in the blues. They say we are judged by the company we keep. If that s true then Mighty Mike Schermer is doing fine. Pick up a copy of Right Hand Man Volume 1 and you'll be in good company too. /Amazon

This energetic guitarist/vocalist/songwriter has truly become "mighty" with his impressive, hard-driving performances that urge even the most die-hard purists to their feet. Currently touring behind his second release "Next Set" Schermer brings a wealth of experience to his own project after playing with some of the top artists in the business.

The 12-track CD on Fine Dog Records features 10 crafty originals and 2 covers. The music literally jumps out of the box from the first riff of the butt-shakin' opener "Got My Love On" then rolls perfectly into the old school R&B sing-along "My Big Sister's Radio". "Next Set" continues to please with guest performances by Maria Muldaur, Texas blues belter Angela Strehli, and Vanguard recording artist Shana Morrison. Soulful background vocals are handled dutifully throughout by Tammi Brown and "The Sista"- Sista Monica Parker. The Mighty Mike Schermer Band is anchored by co-writer and bassist Steve Ehrmann (formerly with Coco Montoya, John Lee Hooker and Roy Rogers) and drummers June Core (Charlie Musselwhite, Little Charlie and the Nightcats) and Paul Revelli. Austin DeLone and Dale Ockerman lay down extremely funky keyboard work, while Terry Hanck and Johnnie Bamont blow some mean sax.

Mighty Mike Schermer was a fixture on the Bay Area blues scene for over 20 years when he relocated to Austin TX in 2009 and joined the touring band of swamp-boogie piano legend Marcia Ball. He had carved out a solid solo career, with four critically acclaimed CDs, an award winning single and thousands of performances at festivals and nightclubs the world over. He also became the “go to guy” sideman for such heavyweights as Elvin Bishop, Maria Muldaur, Angela Strehli, Bonnie Raitt, Howard Tate, Charlie Musselwhite, Sista Monica, Shana Morrison and many, many more. Oh yes…we may be judged by the company we keep, but when the spotlight shines a solo artist also must be able to bring the goods all on his own. Mighty Mike Schermer delivers on all fronts.

7th album BAD TATTOO, it’s an instant classic —12 smart, hook-laden original songs, recorded and mixed at Kid Andersen’s Greaseland in San Jose CA and featuring special guest appearances by Rick Estrin, Chris Cain and Billy Price showcase Schermer’s mastery of nearly every style of American music. Mighty Mike can play the blues like nobody’s business...but he can also write and sing soul music, R&B, rock and roll, country and Americana with the best in the business.

Schermer has been the “go to guy” sideman for such greats as Elvin Bishop, Bonnie Raitt, Charlie Musselwhite, Angela Strehli, Maria Muldaur, Howard Tate, Pinetop Perkins and many more. He currently tours and records with swamp-boogie piano legend Marcia Ball. He has also carved out a solid solo career...with an award winning single, 6 critically acclaimed albums, a Blues Music Award (BMA) nomination and literally thousands of performances at festivals and nightclubs the world over.

“There is definitely a wide range on the new album” Schermer muses, “we pretty much touched on every sub-genre of roots music. But it’s all blues at it’s core...i never stray too far from Albert Collins!”
