Multiple award-winning, Montreal-based singer/songwriter Dawn Tyler Watson has earned her place among the international blues elite. Her fiery stage presence and soul-stirring performances have garnered her national and worldwide recognition. With two recent Maple Blues Awards - Songwriter of the Year, and Best Album/Producer - she was also nominated by the Blues Foundation in Memphis for a 2020 Blues Music Award for Vocalist of the Year alongside greats like Curtis Salgado & Mavis Staples. Her latest record "Mad Love" was awarded the 2020 JUNO award for Blues Album of the Year.

Add this to the six MBA’s she already has, the nine Quebec Lys Blues Awards, a Screaming Jay Hawkins Award for Live Performance, a Blues Blast Music Award for Female Vocalist of the year, and you’ve got a decorated and consummate performer. Since hooking up with a 7-piece killer band fronted by award-winning guitarist Ben Racine, Watson’s star has been on the rise. Taking home the coveted first-place prize at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2017, she’s been spinning magical moments on stage and sharing her expressive voice across four continents with shows that truly move the spirit.

With "Jawbreaker!" Montreal's Queen of the blues unveils a new project, backed by the talented Ben Racine Band. A high-energy record rooted in the R&B of the ’60s, powered by punchy horns and irresistible rhythms. This collection of 11 original songs, 10 penned by Watson, plus 2 well-done covers, takes us on a journey through jazz, soul, rock & gospel music with the unmistakable smoothness Watson is known for and pushes the boundaries of traditional blues into a whole new dimension.

It has been more than two decades that Singer/Songwriter Dawn Tyler Watson has been earning her place among Canada’s Blues elite. Born in England and raised in Ontario, she adopted Montreal as her home after earning her BFA in Jazz Studies and Theatre from Concordia University. An accomplished and dynamic performer, Watson’s fiery stage presence has earned her national and international recognition.

In 2017 along with her backing band The Ben Racine Band, Dawn took home the coveted 1st place spot out of over 260 acts at the 33rd International Blues Challenge, in Memphis TN. She's also the recipient of three Canadian Maple Blues Awards and nine Quebec Lys Blues Awards. She's earned the Screaming Jay Hawkins Award for Best Live Performance, a Trophées France Blues for female International Artist of the Year, and a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Best Vocalist.

Her artistic style is an eclectic influence of Jazz, Soul, and Gospel that pushes the boundaries of traditional Blues into a whole new dimension.

Playing festivals and concert halls across 4 continents, recording four albums, and appearing on numerous compilations, she has shared the stage with an array of premiere artists, including Oliver Jones, Jeff Healy, Koko Taylor, Susan Tedeschi, and Cyndi Lauper.

Between gigs Watson gives clinics & facilitates workshops in Vocal Expression & Improvisation while honing her chops on Montreal’s vibrant Jazz scene, and working with some of the city’s finest musicians. Her last album JAWBREAKER! was nominated for yet another Maple Blues Award for Recording & Producer of the Year. She has just finished recording her fifth album, again with the incredible talents of the Ben Racine Band backing her. Watson has an authentic, Soul driven sound that moves the soul and stimulates the spirit.

It’s that time of year again, and we don’t necessarily mean the holidays. We’re talking about the exciting compilation CD put together thru a joint effort of The Blues Foundation and the good folks over at Frank Roszak Promotions. Yep–“IBC #33” features fourteen live cuts culled from the hundreds of performances occurring in the week-long festivities during The International Blues Challenge in Memphis back in February of this year. Players from both the Band and Solo/Duo Category are represented, and the songs are all-originals from the players.

First Place Band winner Dawn Tyler Watson leads off by taking us to Blues Church with the powerhouse gospel overtures of “Shine On.” Solo/Duo winner Al Hill plays piano on his “Don’t Dig Today,” but his axe skills also brought home the coveted Solo Division Outstanding Guitarist award.

Those who didn’t win have plenty to offer, tho. Check out Brody Buster’s One Man Band with his apocalyptic tale of what might happen on “September 23, 2029!” Ruth Wyand And The Tribe Of One touches on the topic of a cheatin’ lover with “I Don’t Have Proof,” while The Souliz Band Featuring Sugar And Spice are in it for a down-home good time on “Good Lovin (Hot And Fresh From The Oven).

We had a favorite, too. Likely this one is a crowd-pleaser wherever it is played, as Johnny Fink And The Intrusion dig on every classic riff they can get their frets on, from Freddie to Elmo and everywhere in between with the party anthem, “Let’s Hear Some Blues!”

In about six weeks or so, after the turkey is all eaten and the packages are all unwrapped, the festivities will crank up for the 34TH IBC, and if you’re lucky enough to go, you’ll be in the presence of the most comprehensive gathering of blues talent on the planet.
