Dr Project Point Blank Blues Band have been playing the blues for 20 years this year. The line-up may have changed quite a bit along the way, but the style of music has remained the same. Along the way they have helped to firmly establish a blues scene in the former Yugoslavia, and the release of their seventh album "8 Blue Balls" shows that they are an outfit worth taking seriously. Things start way out in left field with a short waltz introduction, "By The Way (You Look Tonight)," which will have you wondering if you have come to the right place. This is soon displaced by the rocking guitar intro to "Johnny Passed Away" which provides a good indication of where the band are coming from. Although the sound is largely dominated by tasty guitar work (from the Dr: Dragoljub Crncevic, who also handles most of the vocals), there is also plenty of keyboards on offer too, courtesy of Darko Grujic. The band show that they are happy at slowing things down on the excellent "A Cross To Bear," with its soulful (and doleful) vocals. John O'Leary (ex Savoy Brown) contributes the very fine harp licks here, and elsewhere. All of the songs are originals, and they make the most of the guitar and organ which are laid over the rock steady beat from the rhythm section of Jovan Pejcinovic (drums) and Zoran Milenkovic (bass). It all works really well too, Even though there is a rocky edge to much of the guitar playing, it never really feels like a blues/rock album. The album has plenty of high spots, with the driving instrumental, "Blue Ball," "Some Other Place"--if Jarvis Cocker from Pulp sang the blues, this is what it would sound like--and the almost funky "Lazy Mama" all worthy of extra special mention. After the full version of "By The Way (You Look Tonight)," a waltz sounding like it is being played on an old wind-up gramophone, complete with Jim Reeves-like vocals, there are a couple of bonus tracks just to make the package complete. The first, "You Give Me A Reason" has an almost Doors-like keyboard sound to it, whilst "Up & Down" sounds like it would make a great encore on a live show. "8 Blue Balls" is a very good album indeed. DR Project Point Blank Blues Band are a fine outfit, and yes, they can definitely play the blues. They also write top quality songs, many of which have great hooklines to them. "8 Blue Balls" is an album that is well worth tracking down, especially if you like your blues to have a raw, rocky edge to it. Even if you do not, check it out anyway, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Ana Popovic has established herself as a musical powerhouse since picking up a guitar at age fifteen in her native home of Serbia. Her newest project, Dance To The Rhythm, is sure to follow in her list of successful recordings. Popovic was introduced to the blues at a young age by her father. She then traveled to the Netherlands to study jazz guitar and, shortly after, recorded her first solo album. She later moved to the United States, living in Memphis for a while before landing in California. The rest is, as we say, history. She has a long list of album releases, music award nominations and wins, and a formidable reputation as a first-class guitarist, vocalist, and writer.

Dance To The Rhythm is appropriately titled, as it is packed full of danceable tunes and great guitar work. Recorded on Electric Heel Records at Kona Town Recording Studio in Redondo Beach, California, the album is a ten-song offering of great music from an exceptional talent. Ana Popovic wrote, or co-wrote, every tune on this project except for a Paul Simon classic. A mix of R&B, blues, soul, rock, funk, and Latin-influenced styles and sounds, this album is sure to please even the most critical listener.

Kicking off Dance To The Rhythm is the title track, “Dance To The Rhythm.” Reminiscent of the disco era, it’s difficult to stay still while listening to this one. Popovic sings, “I’m gonna dance all the way to the finish line.” There is also a great guitar break in this song that showcases her playing proficiency. Make no mistake, Ana Popovic can play. “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover,” the Paul Simon cover, is one of my favorites on this album. Maybe I’m just dating myself a little, but for someone to interpret such a great tune is bold, and Popovic pulls it off by doing an outstanding job. There’s more of her great guitar work on this song as well.

Slowing down Dance To The Rhythm just a little is “Dwell On The Feeling.” The song appears at a point that almost establishes a resting spot for a few minutes so that you can catch your breath. “I want to dwell on the feeling of you,” sings Popovic. This is a more sensitive approach by her, but still provides a taste of what she is really known for, great guitar playing. “Sisters And Brothers” is the final cut on this recording. “Let’s love each other, through the pain. Sisters and brothers, there’s no shame.” What a great, positive statement for the times we’re living in. “Let’s love each other.” It is a fitting conclusion for the album.

Ana Popovic continues to hammer out excellent music with each album she records, and that doesn’t seem likely to change any time soon. Her guitar playing and energy may be best appreciated in a live concert setting, but her recordings are also superb and tastefully done. She continues to tour in the United States, with at least one upcoming European appearance scheduled. I always look forward to new recordings from artists, and after enjoying this album by Popovic for a while, I’ll eagerly anticipate her next project. /Moe Moore, Blues Rock Review

Point Blank, probably, the first real blues band in former Yugoslavia, enough honest and brave to dive deep into the blues idiom at the time which was over piled with music so much different from blues, as well as fighting against, for so, so long, firmly established opinion that Balkans couldn't cope with such kind of feelings arose from dark depths of American black society's spiritual tradition. English language finally cemented down the prejudice, casting away an idea to playing blues music as already highly respected form of musical expression. But..., as always happens, something was creeping out from the cellar!

The very beginning of the summer 1983 found Dragoljub Crncevic-Baki, the prodigal son, and two, the off-road pals of his, one Timothy Davis an American, the other Michael Sulc an Australian, coming to visit Baki's hometown Belgrade, in which somewhere in shadows languished Dragan Markovic, a. k. a. Mare di Luna, waiting for an opportunity to knock!
That summer was good as any other, and almost out of nothing came out the very first true YU blues outfit, Dr. Project - Point Blank. During that summer, Dr. Project - Point Blank boasted quite a reputation as a blues group through live appearances, which led to an idea of recording the very first YU LP in English, entirely self composed, which would range from bottleneck to all-electric city blues based on Chicago and Detroit downtown guitar styles. Again, as usually happens, drummer Michael Sulc got homesick and left. Not long after that another fine drummer, Miroljub Vilotijevic, was augmented to the group. The wheels started turning...!

Mr. Djordje Debac, musical producer of PGP-RTB, was wise enough, after listening to demo, for not longer than five minutes, to give the group their first contract. The necessary time for recording in studio came along.

The very outfit, mentioned above, comprising of D. Crncevic-Baki (vocal, guitars), D. Markovic (guitars), Timothy Davis (vocals, bass) and M. Vilotijevic (drums, percussion), brought out their first born and gave him his Christian name, The Blues!

After, by critics, well received first album and public acclaim, Point Blank proved, for the first time in the history of YU rock, that English language and musical expression in its blues form couldn't have been a barrier for approaching wider audience.

That fact opened the door to formation of the steady blues scene first in Belgrade, then in other cities like Novi Sad, Nis, Zagreb, etc. Finally blues became incorporated into Yugoslav musical body for good. At the time of the first LP Timothy Davis unfortunately left, and was briefly replaced by the newcomer Sasa Labudovic. However, by second album group's direction was begining to shift away from the blues as evidenced in numbers such as Glass Rider and Sisters of Mercy, as well as experimenting with rhythm in Broken Toillette's Seat Blues, showing necessary complexity in arrangements throughout the material. Well composed, arranged and imaginative, Dr. Project - Point Blank, the second album remains possibly the finest Point Blank's album to date.

In late summer 1986, not long after very successful Mid-European tour, due to internal stresses D. Markovic departed to form his own group, Di Luna Blues Band, which is doing well since then. Replacement was found in Aleksandar Kozakijevich with whome band kept on constant gigging across former Yugoslavia. By the end of 1991 along came well known crissis. Yugoslavia was splitted and the band fell apart altogether. Point Blank went down into a period of hibernation.

During 1995 and 1996, Point Blank came out as trio, D. Crncevic (vocal, guitars) with R. Bulatovic (bass) and M. Karlovic (drums), cutting rather disappointing, Southern Comfort, their third album, falling apart for the second time after a handful of gigs.

In attempt to put up Point Blank on its feet again, D. Crncevic gathered completely new outfit consisting of one time member A. Kozakijevich (guitar), D. Grujic (keyboards), D. Petrovic (bass), G. Ilic (drums), (who replaced B. Balos), with the addition of the third guitarist B. Milosevic.

This lineup recorded much improved Sunny Sky, the fourth album, by the end of summer 1997. In that formation Point Blank has been touring Yugoslavia, Macedonia and Italy during 1997 and 1998. Not long after Christmas 1998 all members left except keyboards player Darko Grujic and founder member Dragoljub Crncevic. Two young musicians were brought in, Zoran Milenkovic on bass and Jovan Pejcinovic on drums, which rounded up new, rejuvenated quartet, ready to bite down hard! After a couple of months of rehearsing during 2000 this new formation occupied studio, for a week’s time during December the same year, and recorded excellent LP having John O'Leary, prominent British harmonica hero, as a guest.

Katarina Pejak is a blues singer, songwriter and piano player and a Ruf Records recording artist. She is best known for her eclectic musical approach - her style lives on the crossroads of American music genres such as blues, soul, folk and jazz. Katarina started performing in her late teens, playing blues clubs in her hometown (Belgrade) and other cities in Serbia. She put out three albums in her home country, "Perfume & Luck", 2010, and "First Hand Stories", 2012 and “Old, New Borrowed and Blues”, 2016, a live mini album recorded in 2015. Though she has been classically trained at piano, she strayed away from classical music found her passion for songwriting and improvised music in her high school years. Through her father's music collection, she discovered her main influences: Otis Spann, Ray Charles, Tom Waits, Nina Simone, Norah Jones and many others. In January 2011, she began her studies at Berklee College of Music, where she was admitted on a scholarship. She graduated in May 2014, from the Songwriting major and in her last semester was awarded the Songwriting Achievement Award for her overall success within the department. During her studies at Berklee, she was mentored by the likes of Dave Limina (a long-time keyboardist for blues legend Ronnie Earl), Pat Pattison (an internationally acclaimed lyric writing guru), Scarlet Keys (accomplished song and jingle writer)... In the summer of 2018, Katarina signed with Ruf Records, a German-based blues label, known best for their cross-over approach, and joined the long list of internationally-acclaimed artists such as Victor Wainwright, Mike Zito, Ana Popovic, Samantha Fish, Bernard Allison and so many others. In 2019, Katarina was a part of the Blues Caravan 2019, a Ruf records travelling show and has played over sixty shows all across Europe. Her fourth album, "Roads That Cross", came out in February 2019, and has been listed as one of the 2019 Favorite Blues Albums at allmusic.com. If you're not a blues purist, you'll love the fiery, passionate playing and singing of Yugoslavian blues-rock guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Ana Popovic. Thanks to her father, the Belgrade-raised Popovic was introduced to the blues at an early age, through his wide-ranging record collection and jam sessions hosted at the Popovic home. Born on May 13, 1976, Popovic took up guitar when she was a teenager and formed her first band, Hush, in 1995. Within a year, with the collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe, she was playing blues festivals in Greece and Hungary and working as an opening act for American blues masters, including Junior Wells.

Popovic recorded her debut album with Hush in 1999, when she also moved to the Netherlands to study jazz guitar and world and pop music at the Conservatory of Music. She had the chance to see blues guitarist Bernard Allison at a club in Germany. He asked her to come on-stage and jam at the end of the show. While Allison invited Popovic to join him on a tour, she had to get back to the Jazz Academy in Holland. Allison asked for a copy of Popovic's record with Hush, and he sent it on to executives at Ruf Records in Germany, who were impressed with Popovic's powerful guitar playing and singing. Ruf contacted her to be part of their Jimi Hendrix tribute compilation, and then signed her to a recording deal of her own.

Several months after this, she was on her way to Memphis to record Hush! The album was well received by blues radio programmers and the non-blues purist segments of the American, European, and Canadian blues festival circuits. In the spring of 2001, she performed at the Memphis in May Festival alongside Bob Dylan, the Black Crowes, and Ike Turner. Within five years of leaving Yugoslavia, Popovic, now in her late twenties, had the chance to perform at many of the major European blues festivals, including Peer, Bishopstock, and Notodden. Along the way she's sat in with the likes of Allison, Michael Hill, and Kenny Neal.

Popovic has two albums out on the New Jersey-based Ruf Records America label, Hush!, released in 2000, and Comfort to the Soul, her 2003 release. Jim Gaines and David Z., who have worked with other blues-rockers, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana, and Jonny Lang, had roles in recording and mixing both albums. Five of Popovic's sparkling originals shine on Comfort to the Soul, including her homage to the tragic life of jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius, inspired by a book she read, as well as the album's opening track, "Don't Bear Down on Me (I'm Here to Steal the Show)." She also provides inspired, inventive covers of Howlin' Wolf's "Sitting on Top of the World" and Steely Dan's "Night by Night."

Popovic guests on Hill's 2003 two-disc Electric Storyland live album. In 2003, Popovic was nominated for a W.C. Handy Blues Award for Best New Artist of the Year and was the first European artist to perform at the Handy Awards. Two years later, Popovic released her first live effort, Ana! Certain artists take their style of music more serious than others. When it comes to preserving and advocating the style of acoustic guitar music we call Country blues, Dragan Rusic, better known as “Homesick Mac”, stands in the front line.

Dragan, born in 1960 in the city of Subotica in the former Yugoslavia, now Serbia, began playing the guitar at an early age. While still in his teens he played both bass and guitar in several bands, and in 1983 he formed the Blues Trio with harmonica player extra ordinaire Pera Joe (Patar Miladinovic) and mandolinist Kuki (Zoran Katrinka). They were soon to become “The Smallest Trio In The World” as the mandolinist left five years later. The Blues Trio is known to be the first acoustic blues/folk band in Eastern Europe and they released a couple of cassette-recordings, one LP and three CDs between 1987 and 2006.

For some years Dragan stayed and played alternatively in Serbia, Germany, Denmark and Sweden. With the outbreak of the Civil War in Yugoslavia he chose to not return, and he stayed in Germany to avoid being drafted. In 1992 he moved permanently to Sweden as he met his wife-to-be at a gig in Helsingborg, where he has lived ever since. “True love at first sight” he claims at an interview with theCountryblues.com. Soon after he also recorded his first solo album.

In 1995, he met British slide virtuoso Sam Mitchell at the Mojo Blues Club in Copenhagen. They hit it off immediately, and were soon sitting in at one another’s gigs, each finding a special chemistry that they rarely experienced with others. Within a year they recorded a CD and played frequently together until 1999, and kept in touch until Sam’s untimely death in 2006. Dragan loves to tell numerous stories about their time together.

Like every year since 2005 Ruf Records sent the Blues Caravan on its journey through Europe and the rest of the world. They stopped by at Music Hall, Worpswede DE on 2019-02-22 to present a very diversified and excellent show.

This years members have been the very talented “Texas Honey” Ally Venable (voc, g) from Houston TX, the already experienced Ina Forsman (voc) from Finland and Norah Jones-influenced Katarina Pejak (voc, key) from Serbia/USA (Nashville) accompanied by Roger Inniss (b, musical director) and Elijah Owings (dr).

Katarina Pejak is a singer/songwriter and piano player who combines genres of the American roots music, filtering them through her Balkan descent and a classical musical training.

Ally Venable started singing at an early age in church and then in recent years picked up the guitar and found her passion establishing herself as a Texas Blues Guitar Slinger writing own songs and performing them on stage.

Ina Forsman is a singer/songwriter from Finland who started her career with Guy Verlinde and Helge Tallqvist and her style is located in the area of tension between blues, rock and jazz.

From her birth-city of Belgrade to the Marz Studios in Texas where she recorded her dazzling new album, Katarina Pejak has walked countless roads and stuck a thousand pins in the map. Now, with Roads That Cross, this award-winning performer unveils a fresh set of songs that follow her muse wherever it leads her. Inspired by blues, jazz, country and rock ‘n’ roll – and shaped by all the cities she’s called home – this is music that crosses borders and brings people together. Making her debut on the iconic Ruf Records – and taking part in the label’s famous Blues Caravan tour in 2019 – Roads That Cross is the stone-cold classic that Katarina has promised since the start. Rewind to the post-millennium and this upcoming artist was already a little different: a classical piano virtuoso who raided her father’s record collection for Tom Waits, Bessie Smith, Van Morrison and Otis Spann – then challenged herself to write songs that measured up.

Hitting the blues circuit in her late-teens, word of Katarina’s house-rocking musicianship and smoky vocal spread across the Serbian capital like wildfire. But she had bigger plans. In 2011, Katarina followed the call to the birthplace of US roots, winning a scholarship to the famed Berklee College of Music that trained stars from Steve Vai to Quincy Jones. “It was amazing and tough at the same time,” she recalls. “Studying with people like Dave Limina and Pat Pattison really shaped me.”

Katarina soon made her own mark, picked out for Berklee’s prestigious Songwriting Achievement Award and winning critical acclaim in her native Serbia for early releases like Perfume & Luck (2010), First Hand Stories (2012) and Old New Borrowed And Blues (2016). Her material touched on every genre, but the common factor was honesty, which flooded from the speakers and held audiences spellbound as she performed with the A-list and began to be mentioned in the same breath. “I’ve had the privilege to meet and play with some true blues greats,” she recalls, “like Ronnie Earl, Mike Zito, Anson Funderburgh, Mark Hummel and Ana Popovic.”

For now, Katarina has put down roots in Nashville. But Roads That Cross was born in Texas, where she arrived this year armed with a notebook full of new songs, a stellar studio band and the burning desire to make the best album of her career. “A young woman from Serbia,” considers Zito, “surrounded by Americans, in Southeast Texas, takes the reins and leads this band into some of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time. Her voice is subtle and seductive, her piano playing is on fire. She has emotion, passion and a desperate need for the music to be magical.”

Mission accomplished. Listen to Roads That Cross and you’ll be taken on a magic carpet ride of emotion and mood. There’s “She’s Coming After You,” with its Latin groove, echo-chamber guitars and a lyric about a femme fatale who “looks like the Devil’s daughter/Walks like a baroness”. There’s the choppy reggae-flavoured “Down With Me” and the expert jazz of “The Harder You Kick,” carried by organ and Katarina’s astonishing vocal. The upbeat “Cool Drifter” combines escapism with a soul edge, while “Moonlight Rider” will satisfy the blues hardcore, its gritty riffs and dusty groove addressing a lover that she knows will leave. “I didn’t realise until after making the album,” she reflects, “but most of these songs are about good-byes.”

For everyone else, Roads That Cross is the start of a beautiful relationship. Following her meteoric early career, Katarina Pejak stands at a crossroads, ready to step into the fast lane. “She’ll make you think,” concludes Zito. “She’ll make you cry. Ana Popovic, the blues and rock guitarist and singer who is one of the world's most respected players, will release 'Like It On Top,' a concept album in which she explores ten different aspects of women's empowerment on ten new songs.

Recorded in Nashville, Tenn., and produced by four-time Grammy winner Keb' Mo', the blues influenced album features guest appearances from Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robben Ford and Keb' Mo,'.

"Being on top" is about achieving your own potential. Succeeding in juggling work, family, social life, expectations of the others, of the society, while pushing limits. Renewing yourself and inspiring others."

'Like It On Top' celebrates those women who take initiative, develop, inspire and motivate. It's about feeling good about yourself and what you do." Its ten songs cover topics that are partly autobiographical and partly broader statements aimed at every women -- desire and fantasy, feeling empowered about your craft, confronting dominant macho male attitudes, escaping an abusive marriage, and how to have a strong man as your partner.

But it also credits the men who are motivated and enlightened enough to support women in their quest to be their best versions of themselves. The first single, "Like It On Top," emphasizes that behind every strong, successful woman stands the man that understands the importance of having women be leaders in society. And the final track, the gentle "Honey I'm Home," gives a shout-out to an ever-growing number of families in which men give up their careers to support a woman's career.

"I hope that my music inspires others to motivate ladies all over the world to be successful, energetic, empowered women on a mission, and to motivate men to give them that chance," Popovic says. "The majority of women need to work harder than men to prove themselves or need to cope with a feeling of constant pressure to never make a mistake and be perfect. I believe that women no longer only have the right to earn a living and to take care of themselves and their families."

Ana Popovic has been moving West all her life. She fell in love with American blues as a kid, starting back home in Belgrade, Serbia (ex-Yugoslavia) during the fall of Communism, then moved to the Netherlands to study at the conservatory of jazz and world-music. She lived in Amsterdam for over ten years, and then in a single-minded pursuit of her art and career, she relocated to Memphis, TN to record and work with Southern musicians. Finally, two years ago, she moved her family to Los Angeles, California where she now lives.

"The time has come to step it up," Popovic says. "Becoming the outstanding leaders of tomorrow. Corner-office ladies in business, politics, and the electric guitar!"

Ana has recorded 9 studio album and been nominated for six Blues Music Awards, and has appeared on the covers of Vintage Guitar and Guitar Player magazines. Her albums 'Can You Stand The Heat' and 'Unconditional' were USA Today Picks-Of-The-Week and featured on NPR Weekend Edition, who praised her "Fiery technique on the [Stratocaster] . Nearly all of Ana's albums reached the top of the Billboard Blues Charts. She and her six-piece band have toured tirelessly, sharing stages with B.B. Belgrade's blues power trio, Texas Flood, held its first concert in December 2006 at Bitef Club. In the meantime, this band has turned into a very significant attraction on the Serbian blues rock scene. Frontmen, Nenad Nesa Zlatanovic, became 'Mr. Swagger, a respected guitarist and singer.

Nenad 'Mr Swagger' Zlatanovic founded Texas Flood even before, in 2004. It's a composition that sounds based on the influences of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. After several personal changes, Texas Flood was established in 2007 as a trio. The first CD, "Grinnin 'in Your Face", is released in 2009. The music was featured by Raphael Wressnig (Hammond B3), Billy Gibson (winner of Blues Music Avard 2009) and Little G Weevil (guitar and vocals, the winner of the International Blues Challenge 2013).

Texas Flood has had about 1,000 performances, mostly in clubs in Belgrade, Serbia and the region, but also recorded several performances at major blues festivals such as: North City 2007 (Kosovska Mitrovica, Serbia), Voxstock 2007 (Belgrade, Serbia) , Blues Summit 2007 (Podgorica, Montenegro), Mostar Blues Fest 2008 (BiH), In Wires 2008 (Užice, Serbia), Danube Blues Fest 2008 (Novi Sad, Serbia), Budapest Blues Festival 2010 (Hungary), Gastroblues 2010 , Hungary), Blues Stock 2009 (Belgrade, Serbia), Blues & Soul Fest 2011 (Skopje, Macedonia), Moto Rock Fest 2012 (Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria), Timisoara Blues Fest 2012 (Romania) , Rorschach Jazz Club 2012 (Switzerland), Beer Fest 2012 (Belgrade, Serbia), Rockwood 2012 (Serbia), Crossroads Festival 2012 (Belgrade, Serbia) ... Finally it happened! One of the true blue blues legends recorded a CD in Yugoslavia, in our studio, with our backing band and released it on our label. That legend is Mr. John O’Leary of Savoy Brown, The John Dummer Blues Band, Sweet Pain, and Mainsqueeze fame; the CD is “As Blue As I Can Be”, the band is Pointblank, the studio is Focus and the label is ITMM. In the middle of March, John and the band played two promotional gigs in our country during John’s all to brief visit. In Belgrade, he played The Bitef Art Café and in Senta, a city near the Hungarian border, he played The Mojo Club. I was lucky on both occasions to share the energy, the emotion and a lot of great blues moments which were exchanged between the musicians and audiences in these packed clubs. John and the band took advantage of not having too many rehearsals, they were relaxed, they improvised, but at the same time we all had the impression that they had known each other for a long time. The evening’s programme was based on their CD material, John’s and Dr’s (Pointblank’s guitar player and leader) originals which were carefully mixed with inspired covers of some great blues standards (among them, I would like to mention Sleepy John Estes’s “Divin’ Duck Blues”).

The greatest news brought to us by the CD was, of course, John’s singing. He had spent many years with great vocalists ( Dave & Joanne Kelly, Tony McPhee, Victor Brow, etc) which is probably why it took so long for him to decide to start singing. From what we have heard on the CD and at gigs, it seems that he has picked the right moment. Great emotional delivery is the main characteristic of John’s voice and it is perfectly suited to his powerful and colourful harp playing. Pointblank backed him with respect and feeling, but John gave them enough spaceto prove themselves as the seasoned blues musicians they are.

The audiences at both gigs showed great enthusiasm, and at all times were willing participants in the events, which I am sure, inspired and willed the band to finish these gigs in triumph. When the stage lights finally went dark, all of us had the feeling that we had been part of something really big and were hoping it will not be long before we see John and Pointblank together again!…. ~Valdislav Pejak, Radio Index, Belgrade

Zed Mitchell is a musical jack-of-all-trades. His 5-octave voice makes him a singer of the extra class. He is one of the best guitarists in Europe and looks back as a composer and songwriter on over 20 released albums. He has the ability to play each string of a guitar with a personal touch. Thus, the string magician lets his instrument rock, then sound virtuoso or weave melancholy soundscapes. When Zed plays Mitchell, blues music sounds with an inspiring facet. The bandleader, singer, guitarist and composer Zed Mitchell, from Belgrad, began his career as professional musician in 1970. In that time he played with many well know bands in Yugoslavia.

In 1974 with his own band “LAND”, he had his first international hit-single called “SHOSHANA” for POLYDOR Europe. After this big success and many radio sessions as well as TV, he played as support group on tours for bands such as “FOCUS”, “DEEP PURPLE”, “IAN GILLAN BAND” and many more. He played concerts all around Europe.
At the end of the seventy’s, he founded the ”School for Rock Guitar in Belgrad.

From 1988 he worked in ARCO - STUDIOS in Munich, with producers Malcolm Luker and film composer Nick Glennie-Smith right hand of Hans Zimmer who’s become two Oscars. He made projects with Tina Turner, Phil Collins, Pink Floyd etc. Zed Mitchell worked in that time as studio musician and he played guitar for Eros Ramazotti (“La musica e”), Natalie Cole, also with German stars and producer: Curt Cress, Udo Lindenberg and Leslie Mandoki.

One of the biggest success Zed celebrated, was working with MSSO (Munich Symphonic Sound Orchestra). He played all acoustic and electric guitars. This CD is sold more than one million copies (POLYDOR, POLYSTAR) !!!.

He worked with world know composer Elmar Bernstein and played guitars for the BLOCKBUSTER – “INDIANA JONES” . His knowledge makes him very “wanted” artist under other Artists and Producers on the pulse of the music scene in Germany. Musicans and people from the music business assert, while he is simply one of the best in Europe.

With his band he played as support group with big stars such Joe Cocker (1993), Santana (1993) and B.B. King (on his last tour in Germany 2006).

The bandleader, singer, guitarist and composer Zed Mitchell, from Belgrad, began his career as professional musician in 1970. In that time he played with many well know bands in Yugoslavia.

In 1974 with his own band “LAND”, he had his first international hit-single called “SHOSHANA” for POLYDOR Europe. After this big success and many radio sessions as well as TV, he played as support group on tours for bands such as “FOCUS”, “DEEP PURPLE”, “IAN GILLAN BAND” and many more. He played concerts all around Europe.
At the end of the seventy’s, he founded the ”School for Rock Guitar in Belgrad.

From 1988 he worked in ARCO - STUDIOS in Munich, with producers Malcolm Luker and film composer Nick Glennie-Smith right hand of Hans Zimmer who’s become two Oscars. He made projects with Tina Turner, Phil Collins, Pink Floyd etc. Zed Mitchell worked in that time as studio musician and he played guitar for Eros Ramazotti (“La musica e”), Natalie Cole, also with German stars and producer: Curt Cress, Udo Lindenberg and Leslie Mandoki.

One of the biggest success Zed celebrated, was working with MSSO (Munich Symphonic Sound Orchestra). He played all acoustic and electric guitars. This CD is sold more than one million copies (POLYDOR, POLYSTAR) !!!.

He worked with world know composer Elmar Bernstein and played guitars for the BLOCKBUSTER – “INDIANA JONES” . His knowledge makes him very “wanted” artist under other Artists and Producers on the pulse of the music scene in Germany. Musicans and people from the music business assert, while he is simply one of the best in Europe.

With his band he played as support group with big stars such Joe Cocker (1993), Santana (1993) and B.B. King (on his last tour in Germany 2006).
