When multiple award winner Marcel Scherpenzeel is on stage, he grabs you by the neck and won't let you go. You can't take your eyes off him for a second, afraid of missing even the smallest part of his passion and facial expressions! Meanwhile, your ears register a technical virtuoso who has no trouble exploring the dirty edges.
It is an experience, an experience that you will not soon forget and that you will carry with you for the rest of your life. Marcel's performance can be so beautiful, emotional and “life-changing”!
He himself indicates that when he is on stage he feels a special sensation, as if his soul is directly connected to his body.
Rory Gallagher's original band also recognize Marcel's unique qualities. They asked him to come play with them. This resulted in a hugely successful European tour from 2008 to 2019.
Marcel Scherpenzeel (1970), Amsterdam is a descendant of a musical family. Marcel started playing drums at the age of 10, but threw the drum sticks in the corner after his older brother gave him a guitar. The guitar quickly becomes his best friend.
His father's record collection appears to be a huge inspiration for his music. The influence of John Lee Hooker, Freddie King, BB King, Albert Collins, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers and ZZ Top can unmistakably be found in Marcel's work.
