Aria award winning band Collard Greens & Gravy have been forerunners of the Australian blues and roots seen since their formation in 1995. Since that time the band have clocked up countless kilometres performing their gritty driving blues to thrilled audiences at major festivals across Australia as well as in the United States.
The album "Devil In The Woodpile" is strongly influenced by the Mississippi Fife'n'Drum tradition that helped shape blues music. Fife'n'Drum is a blues music form derived from the military fife and drum bands that crossed the ocean from Europe (think -"When Johnnie Comes Marching Home"). In the hands of African Americans, especially during the American Civil War, this music style was shaped by the African rhythms, still a powerful part of the psyche of the slaves.
Collard Greens & Gravy have taken these grooves, and in their own style, transformed them into something fresh and compelling.
