While Yank Rachell was past his prime when he began recording for Delmark in the 1960s, he was still an effective, often exciting vocalist and mandolin player. He seldom sounded more striking and enjoyable than on the nine cuts that comprised Chicago Style, recently reissued on CD. In 1949, Hooker played for a private gathering in the Detroit dining room of cartoonist, animator, and music fan Gene Deitch. Deitch had the foresight to record the performance on a portable machine. That acoustic performance -- together with four tracks made a few days later in another casual gathering of music fans -- was retrieved from Deitch's archives 50 years later for this hour-long, 20-cut CD. Hooker at this time had only just become a recording artist, and with the exception of four early 1949 sides done for Elmer Barbee, The Unknown John Lee Hooker represents the only known acoustic recordings by Hooker prior to the late '50s. Deitch and his friends asked Hooker to play older and more traditional songs, resulting in a set that included a greater concentration of country blues, spirituals, and folk tunes than Hooker was doing in his commercial recordings of the time. "Two White Horses," "Trouble in Mind," "John Henry," and "Jack O' Diamonds" are all here, for instance. Still, it's really not too far removed from what he was doing in the studio, given the inimitable Hooker stamp by his trademark omnipresent foot stomps and idiosyncratic rhythms. As both singer and guitarist Hooker, in this informal setting, sounds just as committed and inspired as he was on his studio dates; "Trouble in Mind," for instance, has guitar work as distinctive (and, at times, irregularly patterned and dissonant) as anything he did in the period. Nevertheless, this is primarily of historical interest, particularly as Hooker did do a wealth of similar folk/blues crossover sessions in the late '50s and early '60s that were captured in much better fidelity. The sound on this disc is listenable and certainly okay given the conditions of 1949 home recordings, but still a little hissy and muffled. This means that studio acoustic albums such as 1959's The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker are more highly recommended. ~Richie Unterberger

There is no shortage of swing on this instance of vault-digging by Dr. Boogie, aka roots musicologist Walter De Paduwa. Dr. B. is curator of an ongoing series of outstanding salvages of rare rockabilly and blues, including select items from the coveted 78 stash of deceased Canned Heat frontman Bob Hite. This latest prescription is a potent array of 20 R&B instrumentals from the '50s and early '60s. Honking, bar-walking saxes and greasy B-3 organ foreplay are front and center on these recordings, and the ghostly fug of sultry roadhouses and blue light basements clings to every track. Its totality makes for a consistent patch of jumping jive, with more than a few standouts: the surprising proto-ska of Baby Earl and the Trinidads’ “Backslop”, for example. David Rockingham Trio’s “Bee Dee” and the Mark III Trio’s “Good Grease” respectively bring the McGriffian, Hammond-driven hip check and yowling, clapping revelry. Roosevelt Fountain’s “Red Pepper, Pt. 2” proves one can never go wrong with a bluesy stroll, complete with a command for dancers to "freeze!" Worshipers at the altar of Selmer will also find suitable cause for ecstasy here, with the inclusion of a rare cut by sax legend Big Jay McNeely.

With their fusion of blues, rock & roll, and R&B, the Fabulous Thunderbirds helped popularize roadhouse Texas blues with a mass audience in the '80s and, in the process, they helped kick-start a blues revival during the mid-'80s. During their heyday in the early '80s, they were the most popular attraction on the blues bar circuit, which eventually led to a breakthrough to the pop audience in 1986 with their fifth album, Tuff Enuff. The mass success didn't last too long, and founding member Jimmie Vaughan left in 1990, but the Fabulous Thunderbirds remained one of the most popular blues concert acts in America during the '90s.

Guitarist Jimmie Vaughan formed the Fabulous Thunderbirds with vocalist/harpist Kim Wilson in 1974; in addition to Vaughan and Wilson, the band's original lineup included bassist Keith Ferguson and drummer Mike Buck. Initially, the group also featured vocalist Lou Ann Barton, but she left the band shortly after its formation. Within a few years, the Thunderbirds became the house band for the Austin club Antone's, where they would play regular sets and support touring blues musicians. By the end of the decade, they had built a strong fan base, which led to a record contract with the local Takoma Records.

In 1979, the Fabulous Thunderbirds released their eponymous debut on Takoma. The record was successful enough to attract the attention of major labels and Chrysalis signed the band the following year. What's the Word, the group's second album, was released in 1980 and it was followed in 1981 by Butt Rockin'. By the time the Thunderbirds recorded their 1982 album T-Bird Rhythm, drummer Mike Buck was replaced by Fran Christina, a former member of Roomful of Blues.

Although the Fabulous Thunderbirds had become favorites of fellow musicians -- they opened shows for the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton -- and had been critically well-received, their records didn't sell particularly well. Chrysalis dropped the band following the release of T-Bird Rhythm, leaving the band without a record contract for four years. While they were in limbo, they continued to play concerts across the country. During this time, bassist Keith Ferguson left the band and was replaced by Preston Hubbard, another former member of Roomful of Blues. In 1985, they finally landed another record contract, signing with Epic/Associated.

After the deal with Epic/Associated was complete, the T-Birds entered a London studio and recorded their fifth album with producer Dave Edmunds. The resulting album, Tuff Enuff, was released in the spring of 1986 and, unexpectedly, became a major crossover success. The title track was released as a single and its accompanying video received heavy play on MTV, which helped the song reach the American Top Ten. The success of the single sent the album to number 13 on the charts; Tuff Enuff would eventually receive a platinum record. "Wrap It Up," a cover of an old Sam & Dave song, was the album's second single and it became a Top Ten album rock track. Later in 1986, the T-Birds won the W.C. Handy Award for best blues band.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds' follow-up to Tuff Enuff, Hot Number, arrived in the summer of 1987. Initially, the album did fairly well -- peaking at number 49 on the charts and spawning the Top Ten album rock hit "Stand Back" -- but it quickly fell off the charts. Furthermore, its slick, radio-ready sound alienated their hardcore following of blues fans. "Powerful Stuff," a single from the soundtrack of the Tom Cruise film Cocktail, became a number three album rock hit in the summer of 1988. It was included on the following year's Powerful Stuff album, which proved to be a major commercial disappointment -- it only spent seven weeks on the charts.

After the two poorly received follow-ups to Tuff Enuff, Jimmie Vaughan left the band to play in a duo with his brother, Stevie Ray Vaughan; following Stevie Ray's death in the summer of 1990, Jimmie pursued a full-time solo career. The Fabulous Thunderbirds replaced Vaughan with two guitarists, Duke Robillard and Kid Bangham. The first album from the new lineup, Walk That Walk, Talk That Talk, appeared in 1991. Following the release of Walk That Walk, Talk That Talk, Epic/Associated dropped the Fabulous Thunderbirds from their roster.

During the early '90s, the Fabulous Thunderbirds were in limbo, as Kim Wilson recorded a pair of solo albums -- Tigerman (1993) and That's Life (1994). Wilson re-assembled the band in late 1994 and the band recorded their ninth album, Roll of the Dice, which was released on Private Music in 1995. High Water followed in 1997 with a live album after that in 2001.

In 2004, Wilson reassembled the band yet again adding retro blues sensation guitarist Nick Curran and equally talented West Coast guitarist Kirk Eli Fletcher. The newly anointed group released Painted On on Tone Cool records in 2005. ~Stephen Thomas Erlewine

The Gabe Stillman Band is a three-piece machine that runs at full tilt for every performance. While their sound is unmistakably rooted in the blues, the band draws from the deep well of all American roots music.

In January 2019, Gabe and his band returned from the 35th International Blues Challenge, IBC, in Memphis TN, after landing in the final eight out of 101 starting entries. Additionally Gabe’s command of the guitar earned him serious notice with the slate of judges and earned him top honors, winning the esteemed Gibson Guitar Award. Stillman says, “Winning the Gibson award is an incredible honor, especially at this early stage of my career. It’s an electrifying feeling to have the encouragement from the Blues Foundation that I’m on the right path as a musician.”

Based in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Gabe formed the band in 2015, shortly after graduating from Boston’s Berklee College of Music. The Gabe Stillman Band has become a mainstay of the regional blues circuit with standout performances at venues large and small. In addition to sharing stages with blues royalty The Nighthawks and Chicago powerhouse Toronzo Cannon, they’ve won over crowds at the Briggs Farm Blues Fest, the Lancaster Roots & Blues Festival, the Destination Blues Festival and, to Stillman’s great satisfaction, the annual Billtown Blues Festival. Toronzo Cannon says, “Gabe Stillman has the intensity and the chops the blues should have, keep your eye on him!”

In the Summer of 2018 the band performed at the Spyglass Ridge Winery as a supporting act for legendary blues and rock'n'roll band, George Thorogood & The Destroyers. Throughout the past year the band has toured extensively in PA, OH, MO, TN, TX and FL playing for great audiences at some of the most well-respected blues venues and festivals in the country. Plans are underway for a tour landing him in Chicago and continuing through upstate NY. Gabe is aggressively pursuing his next recording project.

The frontman for British hitmakers the Small Faces and Humble Pie, singer/guitarist Steve Marriott was born January 30, 1947 in London; a successful child actor, he played the role of the Artful Dodger in the musical Oliver! as a teen, but by the mid-'60s, he was working in a local music shop. There he met bassist Ronnie Lane, agreeing to jam with his band the Pioneers; Marriott soon joined the group full-time and, after adopting a sound influenced by American R&B and a look inspired by Mod fashions, they rechristened themselves the Small Faces. Though best-known in the U.S. for their hit "Itchycoo Park," at home, the Small Faces enjoyed much greater success, reeling off a series of smashes including "All or Nothing," "My Mind's Eye," and "Lazy Sunday" as well as the 1968 classic LP Ogden's Nut Gone Flake. The chart popularity of "Lazy Sunday" rankled Marriott, however -- he'd recorded the song as a joke and it was released despite his objections -- and when the more thoughtful "The Universal" failed to crack the Top 20, his dissatisfaction only increased.

Marriott's tenure with the Small Faces ended after he stalked offstage during a New Year's Day 1969 performance; he soon recruited ex-Herd guitarist Peter Frampton to form the hard rock combo Humble Pie, and after months of woodshedding at Marriott's Essex cottage, the group issued its debut single, "Natural Born Boogie," cracking the U.K. Top Five. The LP As Safe as Yesterday Is followed, but again American success eluded Marriott until the release of the 1971 Humble Pie live album Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore, which went gold. Although Frampton left the band soon after, 1972's Smokin' was a smash, reaching the U.S. Top Ten; subsequent efforts failed to achieve the same heights, however, and Humble Pie disbanded in 1975. After the release of the solo Marriott, in 1976, he joined in a Small Faces reunion, then four years later re-formed Humble Pie with original drummer Jerry Shirley; after two LPs, the group again dissolved. Marriott spent the better part of the decade in seclusion, but was planning to reunite with Frampton when he lost his life in a house fire on April 20, 1991. ~Jason Ankeny

Frankie Lee Jones was born in Mart, Texas. As a child, he sang gospel music in church. In 1963, he signed a recording contact with Peacock Records. Billed as Little Frankie Lee, he released three singles, including "Taxi Blues", a regional hit and his best-known song. After living with his friend Sonny Rhodes in Austin, Texas, Lee was recruited by Ike Turner to join the touring ensemble backing Ike & Tina Turner. Lee later said of that time, "I'll never forget it. I dug the music and the way they performed. Tina in particular just knocked me out. It was amazing how she would go out and grab an audience — that's what I wanted to do. So I would just sit back and take notes. I learned a lot." Lee then settled in Houston and worked with other musicians, including Big Mama Thornton, Ted Taylor, Junior Parker and Joe Hinton.

Lee befriended Albert Collins during this period, and in 1965, they both relocated to California, with Lee singing in Collins's band from that time until 1968. In 1971, Lee was signed to Elka Records, and his cousin, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, produced Lee's tracks. In the late 1970s, Lee's backing ensemble included the young Robert Cray. His first album, The Ladies and the Babies, was released by HighTone Records in 1984. The Allmusic journalist Thom Owens noted that "as one of the first albums on HighTone Records, the album helped set the stage for the numerous records and artists that teetered between soul and blues." Lee appeared at the Chicago Blues Festival with Sonny Rhodes, before relocating to New Jersey in 1986.

He continued to perform live, gaining a growing reputation for the quality and energy of his live performances. Flying Fish Records released Lee's second album, Sooner or Later (1992), on which he was backed by Doug Newby and the BluzBlasters, with a guest appearance by Lucky Peterson. Going Back Home (1994) was released by Blind Pig Records. Lee toured widely, playing at American music festivals and in Europe and Japan. In 2004, Lee performed with Dan Treanor on the album African Wind.

Lee's final album, Standing at the Crossroads, was released in 2006 by Blues Express. The album was produced by Dennis Walker, who had produced The Ladies and the Babies more than twenty years earlier. Lee was nominated for the Bay Area Blues Vocalist of the Year award. “From the blues to the good news,” declares the Reverend John Lee Hooker Jr.’s website, though listening to his new album, Testify, blues has not left the building entirely. It’s just backing up lyrics of encouragement and warning instead of “Extramarital Affair” and “Pay the Rent.”

Son of the legendary bluesman John Lee “Boogie Man” Hooker, Reverend John Lee Jr. received Grammy nominations for his blues albums. But a life of imprisonment, addiction, and having been being shot and stabbed forced him to make a right turn. Today, he is saved, sanctified, and sober. He’s eager to share his story in music, too, lest others go down the wayward path he had tread. That is the message of Testify.

Hooker gets right to his cautionary tale in the opener, “Listen to the Spirit,” which features Charlie Musselwhite on harmonica. The song swings with a swamp blues beat as Hooker confesses his sins and chronicles his ultimate deliverance. “Preach It Like It Is” is a twelve-bar blues that ruminates on our out-of-control society and on those who practice Christianity only when convenient. Like many other cuts on the album, it’s propelled by a muscular brass section, a relentless rhythm section, and a choir of background voices.

On the retro title track, a further amplification on how alcohol, heroin, and cocaine almost took him out, Hooker evokes the technique of B. B. King in pulling deep wells of emotion from the electric guitar. Some of the chord changes come straight from classic 1940s R&B.

In addition to autobiography, the songs, which reference Biblical passages, focus on salvation as the way to gain entrance to the hereafter.

The one song on the album with the least hardcore blues backdrop is the single, “My God is Holy.” Its mainstream sound is likely why it was selected for radio play.

Lyrically, some rhymes feel forced and some beats struggle under the weight of lifting too many syllables. Nevertheless, Testify is expertly produced by Hooker and Larry Batiste. It’s an amalgam of gospel and blues, two genres from the same source that never were very far from each other, musically. The Reverend John Lee Hooker Jr. proves that. ~Bob Marovich

This is the third volume in Sub Rosa's collection devoted to rare and lost recordings from the '20s to the '60s, following Dr. Boogie Presents Rarities from the Bob Hite Vaults and Oh, Run Into Me, But Don't Hurt Me! Female Blues Singers -- Rarities 1923-1930. Shim Sham Shimmy has been assembled by Belgian radio personality, musicologist, and Canned Heat devotee, Walter De Paduwa aka Dr. Boogie. Is it really possible to imagine what modern music would sound like if a few pioneering geniuses had not had the idea of electrifying their instruments, especially guitar and harmonica, between 1945 and 1950? Some purists pan this evolution, but, in the '50s, the new sound was heard and embraced at all the studios and night clubs in the United States; it would become a staple on the radio, and in pop culture in general, radically transforming the blues, boogie and country into acts of rebellion. This collection pays tribute to about thirty artists, some of whom later became known, like "Master of the Telecaster" Albert Collins, boogie-woogie and blues pianist Champion Jack Dupree, slide guitar innovator Homesick James, harmonica and blues singer, Sammy Myers, "The Boogie Disease" author Doctor Ross, and one-man band wild-man, Joe Hill Louis. However, the real treat is having an opportunity to hear fabulous unknowns who all, one day, had the chance to be recorded, either in a studio, on the street, or on a back porch, before returning to anonymity shortly after. Almost all of the artists presented here hailed from the Southern states; some of them stayed there their whole life, others emigrated up North, moving up the Mississippi, or toward the West to settle in California. The music included here is part of the foundations of all the modern music that would take the world by storm up to our present time. It’s that time of year again when the ghosts, ghoulies, skeletons and zombies have finished their laundry and ready themselves for the annual celebration that is Halloween. Arriving just in time for the ghoulish festivities is a new compilation to shakedown those dancing limbs from Koko Mojo. With a track list providing a new slant on this rockin’ theme with black artists from the genres of blues, rhythm and blues and rock ‘n’ roll. One aspect worth celebrating here, apart from the exciting music on offer, is the focus on less obvious tracks to celebrate this time of year. With no time for the obligatory Screamin’ Jay Hawkins ‘I Put A Spell On You’, what the listener receives instead is the same artist but with equally compelling ‘Frenzy’, complete with cartoon vocal expressions setting up this compilation for more great expectations. ‘Black Halloween: Bo Didley Is A Zombie’ certainly delivers with more measured, yet equally thrilling performances by the likes of Lord Luther and ‘(I Was A) Teenage Creature, The Hollywood Flames’ ‘Frankenstein’s Den’, and wonderfully bluesy-trippy version of ‘The Shadow Knows’ from The Coasters. With Johnny Fuller assuming a plucky stance in relation to ‘Haunted House’, to soulful numbers from Ike Turner, The Cadillacs and The Naturals, not to mention more predictable entry from Bo Diddley (‘Who Do You Love?’) who manages to bag the front cover despite appearances looking a tad unhealthy. Of course, no rockin’ Halloween album is complete without its eccentricities and this arrives upon its conclusion with intriguing Philly Joe Jones’ ‘Blues For Dracula’. Clearly, it’s not only the living who are rockin’ because there’s enough evidence to suggest the dead are enjoying the dance via ‘Black Halloween: Bo Didley Is A Zombie’.

It’s been six years since Philip Sayce released his last studio album, Influence, in Europe back in 2014. The following year, Influence was released in North America as Sayce signed with Warner Music Canada. Now after much anticipation, Sayce makes his triumphant return with Spirit Rising. The album is produced by Michael Nielsen, who produced the Peace Machine record. It also features collaborations with songwriters Richard Marx, who wrote with Sayce on Innerevolution, Distant Cousins, Gavin Brown, and Maia Davies.

The album opens with the fuzzy instrumental “Warning Shot,” which is an appropriate title. Sayce shows he’s back with a vengeance and is ready to put the world on notice. The high powered single “Fits Me Good” follows with “Black Roller Coming” right after. “Black Roller Coming” features a badass riff and a memorable guitar solo that really takes off, a definite highlight of the album. Next up is the bluesy shuffle of “She’s The Music.” “Once” is a beautiful tribute song that Sayce wrote for his father. “Wild” is a cathartic track for Sayce as he sings about the need to be free after being held back. “Oh My” is a bit of a new direction for Sayce with its swing feel, which is well complemented with female backing vocals and the risk pays off well. “Burning Out” is a scorching rocker many of us can relate to.

Spirit Rising includes three cover songs. Sayce tackles Magic Sam’s “Give Me Time,” which has a real feel good vibe. He also pays tribute to his mentor Jeff Healey with “One Foot on the Gravel.” Then Sayce hops on the dobro and takes us down to the Crossroads with a cover of Lightnin Hopkins’ “Awful Dreams.”

Spirt Rising closes with the uplifting “Spirit” and a beautiful instrumental “5:55,” which would be great to see expanded in the live set. Sayce has overcome many challenges and obstacles in recent years, which has inspired Spirit Rising. Well worth the wait, Spirit Rising is right up there with Sayce’s best work featuring blistering guitar and great songs from start to finish. ~Pete Francis

Subtitled "Fingers Taylor Greatest Hits" and compiled from a variety of sources, this makes a marvelous introduction to this well-kept secret of the harmonica world. Taylor's world-class chops are all over this disc, showing off a variety of styles while attacking an equally wide range of genres that show off his considerable skills as both interpreter and molder of his own blues and rock & roll landscape. Unlike most harmonica virtuosos, however, Taylor surrenders always to the needs of the song, showcasing his instrument when the tune calls for it, using it for punctuation on others and never overplaying his hand or overstaying his musical welcome.

His hard Southern rockin' style is heard to good advantage on "Extra Mile," the funky "Waiting On Ice," "Cave Man Rock" (with some fine uncredited Lonnie Mack-style guitar work), "Over the Fence," John Kilzer's "Jackson Police," and a tune he co-wrote with his boss of 25 years, Jimmy Buffett, "Some White People Can Dance." Taylor's ear for a great original tune is further substantiated by the presence of "Big Top Hat," Mickey Jupp's "Standing at the Crossroads Again," and "That Kind of Love," while his considerable blues chops are highlighted on Little Walter's "Last Night," Champion Jack Dupree's "Shim Sham Shimmy," Jerry McCain's "Geronimo Rock" and his own "Good Rockin' Woman." Chris Corcoran is the guitarist's guitarist. He is one of the UK's finest Blues and R&B players and has been performing across the UK and Europe for the last 20 years. The Brit King of Jump Blues Guitar, leads his self-styled trio & seven piece band. Their unique brand of instrumental Blues is exciting, dynamic and a completely original presence on the UK Blues scene.

Widely respected as one of the UK’s finest Blues guitarists, he was profiled in Issue 406 of Guitarist Magazine (May 2016), with examples of his signature licks and accompanying video on the Guitarist Youtube channel. Wayne Nicholson has long been considered one of Atlantic Canada’s greatest blues-rock vocalists, often compared to legendary vocalists such as Paul Rodgers, Jim Morrison and David Clayton-Thomas. Having grown up with the sounds of early jazz & blues music (Bessie Smith, Robert Johnson and Louis Armstrong) and evolved into a musician of his own with the strong influences of Elvis, Chuck Berry, Beatles, Stones, Yardbirds and Bob Dylan, Wayne Nicholson developed a very unique understanding of music.

With a career spanning 50 years, Nicholson recorded and released eight albums and has toured with artists such as Ike & Tina Turner, Gregg Allman, James Cotton, J Geils Band, Jeff Healey, and more. Nicholson is also a past winner of the East Coast Music Awards Stompin' Tom Award, given to performers who have made a mark in the music scene of Atlantic Canada and who are perceived as unsung heroes.

Combining his outstanding guitar work & powerful songwriting, John Campbelljohn is a multiple award winner that includes wins and nominations for Maple Blues Awards, East Coast Music Awards, Real Blues Awards, Music Nova Scotia Entertainer Of The Year, Blues Recording Of The Year & Musician Of The Year.

An incredible force on the Canadian music scene, Campbelljohn’s outstanding guitar work, powerful songwriting, rich vocals and distinctive prowess on the slide guitar have made him a favourite at music festivals in Atlantic Canada & Europe. He’s recorded and released 14 albums and has been featured on numerous others throughout his career.

Together, Nicholson and Campbelljohn have curated and recorded a masterful tribute to legendary bluesman, Elmore James. John Campbelljohn recalls the beginnings of the project “Wayne called me up and said, John, I've got an idea. We need to talk. I want to do an album of Elmore James songs and you are the slide guy! I said Wayne you've got one of the biggest blues rock voices to ever come out of the Maritimes. I'm in!”

Elmore’s Blues is a fresh and brilliant tribute to the slide master featuring 12 of Elmore’s greatest released songs and two originals, “Wayne and I have been songwriters all our musical lives so it made sense to include a couple of originals”, says Campbelljohn. “We hope you enjoy If I Was Blue and Dancin' With The Blues."

It's About Time was recorded in the Uncle Gabe's Sound studio in Eindhoven and is a co-production of Voltage and producer Gabriel Peeters. Dave thought it was time to go back to where his love for music once started: the four of us in a room, live recording, press 'record' and working with the best take. As a counterpart to what is going on in the mainstream world, fast music that scores easily. The eleven songs were recorded in just six days. Dave: “The record was played live for 90%. After doing the Tom Petty tour we recorded some tracks that way at the time and that sounded good. We also wanted to have that live vibe now. We did about four takes per track. You do of course put some pressure on yourself,but it was precisely because of this that everyone entered the studio very sharply and focused and brought out the best in all of us. ” The theme of the record is being honest, staying with yourself and telling beautiful stories. That becomes immediately clear with the opening track of the album. The text of 'The Last Time' is about that no one can stop you from doing what you want and the way. It is almost a concept album about staying yourself and continuing on the path you have mapped out for yourself. “A lot of people think I'm a strange bird and ask me why I play this kind of music because it isn't really appreciated. By being very critical of what we make and who we work with, we prove that we can touch and entertain people with this type of music too. This is what I do, and I am proud of it, ”said Dave Vermeulen. This fits in perfectly with the way we got to know Dave as a participant in The Voice of Holland (2016), where he finished second. There too Dave did his own thing and fought for his place in the program. Dave: “There's nothing wrong with being mainstream, but it's not my way of making music. I want to show that the genre we play with the band can also reach a larger audience, but still moves in the shadow of today's mainstream. I have learned to fight for my place, to stay strong and to believe in myself. I took that out. What you see is what you get .
