The new album is called ‘Red Shack Rock’ and it keeps up the fine tradition of putting out some seriously whiskey-soaked blues. Riaan Smit’s voice is bone dry (think Tom Waits) as he belts out the opening number. Arno Van Zyl on lead guitar assists by laying down a killer backing track. At one point the blues goes down so low it hits a subterranean groove that has the room jiving along. Midway through the set, a pale stranger toting a sax joins them onstage and jazzes up the set just a little. Tombstone Pete and Ann Jangle both also put in a supporting performance. Between the banjo, harmonica and a catchy, good old fashioned hoedown the set closes on a high. But it’s two more encores before the crowd is ready to call it a night.
