Recorded and issued only in Europe in 1977, Lost in the Blues (originally known as 'Troubles, Troubles') consists of nonoriginals that are laden with vocals of almost paralyzing pain, tension, and bereavement (the exceptions are two Jimmy Reed numbers, with Rush's anodyne singing no better than push-button entertainment). For altruistic reasons Alligator potentate Bruce Iglauer has regenerated Rush's original guitar sound in the remix, accentuating the emotional frankness of his phraseology. Furthermore, Rush's trio is augmented on this 1991 CD reissue by the harmless yet also controvertible presence of dubbed-in keyboardist Lucky Peterson.
