After more than 3000 gigs in 15 years with almost no change in personnel for The Nighthawks, time had come to pause, to reflect, to look back, to look at the present and the future. This live album represents the final chapter of those 15 years. The band played weeks at a time opening shows for the great Muddy Waters. They became friends with Muddy and with the musiciansfrom his band of that era, including Pinetop Perkins, Luther guitar Jr Johnson and Bob Margolin. Some of them played on the Jacks and Kings albums and on this present offering. Along with these legends, John Hammond Jr has not only been a great teacher and counselor, but also a supporter and a friend. In 1979, The Nighthawks played on Hammond's "Hot Tracks" album. The Nighthawks' friendship with Toru Oki took the band overseas to Japan and brought Toru Oki to the USA, joining the Hawks on the Mississippi Blues Festival. Great times but times change and life moves on. Jimmy Thackery has chosen to pursue his career with a new group, the Asssissins. Mark, Pete and Jan have chosen to continue with the band, joined by Jimmy Nalls on guitar and Jimmy Hall on saxophone and second harp. So, although this album is the final chapter of the early Nighthawks, it's the opening of a whole new story ... to be continued ...
