Dieter Kropp is one of the “most interesting, compact European harp players,” according to Thomas Ritter, the head of the Hamburg blues label Stumble. And Detlev Hoegen of Europe’s largest blues mail-order company CrossCut thinks: “Dieter Kropp’s tone reminds me of some of the great masters of the genre like the inspired and difficult Walter “Shakey” Horton. Or like Charlie Musselwhite, one of the technically most sophisticated players. Or, in terms of the pure, unplugged tone, of Rice Miller alias Sonny Boy Williamson II.“

Kropp recorded the new CD, which is truly worth listening to, with The Red Hot Blues Band, which is American harmonica virtuoso R.J. Mischo’s band. R.J. Mischo is also a guest performer here. Of the 13 songs on “Red Hot Cookin’,” 10 were written by Kropp himself and the band grooves like crazy. Jeremy Johnson is enormous inspired on the guitar and Dieter Kropp blows a tone fat enough to fall in love with.
Thematically, the band swings through the history of blues in a relaxed and easy way, as if they had been playing with Kropp for years. And the packaging: first-class work. The thick booklet provides extensive information about each of the musicians and Kropp personally tells the story of how the CD was made in an amusing, friendly manner. There’s no question: This album is nothing other than pure fun for the ears and the eyes. Congratulations!
