A Columbus, Ohio native and veteran of the scene, like Carney, drummer Eric Blume has been performing with Carney in Columbus venues for over a decade, backing blues and R&B artists Christine Kittrell, Hank Marr, Jimmy “T-99” Nelson, Willie Pooch, Big Joe Duskin, Joe Weaver and Johnnie Bassett. In his early twenties, Carney’s passion for the Blues extended beyond the stage as he bolstered the scene in his hometown, organizing concerts featuring the likes of Jimmy Witherspoon and Charles Brown, writing blues-related articles, co-hosting a radio program called Spontaneous Combustion on WCBE 90.5 FM, organizing fundraisers for ailing artists and serving three terms as President of The Columbus Blues Alliance. When Hubert Sumlin and Henry Gray were recently in need of a backing band at The Soul Shine Blues Festival in Bascom, Ohio, organizers knew to look no further than The Sean Carney Band for professionalism and musicianship. Producer/guitarist Scott Cable also selected The SCB as backing band band for pioneering R&B vocalist Nappy Brown for a number of 2008 festival dates - unfortunately, it was not to be as the blues world recently lost Mr. Brown following a lengthy illness.

In spite of Sinegal's zydeco credentials, this is a fairly straight blues album with faint or nonexistent traces of zydeco. Even the instrumental "Blues into Zydeco" is more a hard-charging roadhouse number than something listeners would be likely to identify as a zydeco cut. Sinegal co-wrote much of the material with Allen Toussaint, and it has an easygoing feel that often incorporates rolling New Orleans funk and R&B rhythms, most obviously on Toussaint's "Line Dancer." Sinegal has a competent if undistinguished voice, plays well in a contemporary electric style that owes something to B.B. Paul "Lil' Buck" Sinegal is a true Louisiana guitarist in that he's played in several styles. He may be best known as a zydeco guitarist, having played and recorded with Clifton Chenier, Rockin' Dopsie, and Buckwheat Zydeco; he played on Paul Simon's Graceland. He also worked as a session guitarist for Excello on swamp blues by Slim Harpo and Lazy Lester, and has played straight blues and funk too. In the late '90s, Sinegal recorded a decent if non-trailblazing album for Allen Toussaint's NYNO label (on which Toussaint also played keyboards and produced) that gave a good idea of his wide-ranging abilities. ~Biography by Richie Unterberger

The Ria Reece Band is a Rhythm and Blues combo out of Montreal. They have just released their self-titled debut, and it is a startling and beautiful tribute to some of the greatest soul music ever record. The band featuring Andre Chevarie (guitar), Martin Laporte (drums), and Sylvain Lamothe (bass) is just as equally of a match for Ria Reece’s fantastic vocals. More restrained and classically-influenced than many other modern R&B bands today, they not only manage to capture but also unlock some of the long-kept secrets of artists like Etta James and Al Green.

The backing band is fantastic. Just like Reece’s vocals, they are never flashy but highly proficient; more interested in substance than style. They are capable of switching sounds and slipping effortlessly and unnoticed into any style. Reece and the band is even capable of sneaking up on you occasionally and surprising you with an interesting re-imagining, like “At Last” made famous by Etta James. It’s a gentler beast, but it’s brilliant. They turn it into something more reminiscent of doo wop or something from the Brill Building while the reverb-washed guitars and powerhouse vocals still conjure the romanticism of the original classic.

Occasionally, the album is so stylistically different track to track, at times emulating the easy-going stroll of Jimmy Reed, the barely-contained bottled emotion of Otis Redding, or even doing for something decidedly modern, that it’s hard to guess what their true sound is. However, they pull off everything so well, that it ends up playing like a well-read history lesson of the blues, R&B, and soul. Their covers are well chosen, and the interpretations are wonderfully fresh. Their cover of “The Rising Sun” is even more ghostly and haunting than other famous covers. It’s instantly recognizable that The Ria Reece Band is a great, tight act, and I can only speculate their live show is just as or even more entertaining, because their eponymous debut is a thrill ride. ~Review by Cody Conard

Em 1992, participou da banda de Celso Blues Boy, e em 1994 foi convidado por Paulo Zinner para assumir o lugar de André Christovam na banda Fickle Pickle. Durante treze anos foi integrante da banda Blue Jeans, considerada pela crítica especializada o melhor trio de blues do país.

Marcos Ottaviano é um dos guitarristas de blues mais requisitados para gravações em estúdio, tendo gravado mais de 20 CDs de artistas com estilos variados, entre eles, Mona Gadelha, Robson Fernandes, Nasi, Sergio Duarte, Ari Borger, Clara Ghimel,e Demma K.

Em 2000, Ottaviano lançou seu primeiro CD solo, November 12 Sessions, produzido por Alexandre Fontanetti, apresentando composições próprias e releituras para clássicos do blues, como Ain’t No Sunshine, Ramblin’On My Mind e Going Down.

Notes: Bex Marshall’s third album is a gritty affair that finds the North London singer/guitarist in rather brilliant form. A smoldering collection of gutsy blues, swooning soul grooves and straight up rock and roll, The House Of Mercy is a sweaty blast of American music, played by a British girl with muscle and belief. There’s the bluesy whip of “Love”; “Bite Me” is rife with temptation and danger and the seductive title-track opener brings to mind the best work of Bonnie Raitt. Other standouts include “Bourbon Street,” which sounds like Janis Joplin by way of the bayou and “Big Man” is a winning rootsy shuffle. Produced by Marshall herself, this is a cohesive, often sizzling set that should secure Marshall’s place among the greats, both past and present.

Part of a relatively obscure West Coast blues scene based in Riverdale, California, in the late 1960s, the Dirty Blues Band played straightforward, lovingly attentive, and competently rendered electric blues.

This twofer collects the band's first two albums, both released in 1968, and finds them riffing on a mix of stinging originals and well-known Willie Dixon standards such as "Spoonful," "Bring It on Home," and "I Can't Quit You, Baby." Of particular note to collectors is the presence of Glenn Ross Campbell, who, following a move to the U.K., would found the Misunderstood and later Juicy Lucy.

Various - Willie Dixon's Blues Dixonary Vols. 1 - 5

Dixon is considered one of the key figures in the creation of Chicago blues. He worked with Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush, Bo Diddley, Joe Louis Walker, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Koko Taylor, Little Milton, Eddie Boyd, Jimmy Witherspoon, Lowell Fulson, Willie Mabon, Memphis Slim, Washboard Sam, Jimmy Rogers, Sam Lay and others. His double bass playing was of a high standard. He appears on many of Chuck Berry's early recordings, further proving his linkage between the blues and the birth of rock and roll.

Dixon is remembered mainly as a songwriter; his most enduring gift to the blues lay in refurbishing archaic Southern motifs, often of magic and country folkways and often derived from earlier records such as those by Charlie Patton, in contemporary arrangements, to produce songs with both the sinew of the blues, and the agility of pop. British R&B bands of the 1960s constantly drew on the Dixon songbook for inspiration. In December 1964, The Rolling Stones reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart with their cover version of Dixon's "Little Red Rooster". By the late sixties, Dixon's songwriting and production work began to take a back seat to his organizational abilities, which were utilised to assemble all-star, Chicago-based blues ensembles for work in Europe

To describe a band such as Howlin' Bill in a few words isn't easy. Since more than ten years this quartet is working hard to achieve their musical goals. They mainly play original songs, but every now and than you can hear them play a well chosen cover. The Howlin' Bill style is a mixture of Blues, Rock 'n' Roll, Boogie, Swing, Rock, Rockabilly etc.... There is only one must: every song has to contain a very high hipshaking level.

The band recorded in 2003 its first album “Cool it!” and it was very well received by the press. Everybody was asking for more and so, the second album “Strike” was released in 2006. In 2009 the band recorded a live album at the well known Ancienne Belgique Club in Brussels. This record contains exactly what Howlin' Bill stands for: an exciting night of action on stage, pumping roots music with lyrics about good and bad women, booze, old shoes, mice with an attitude and romantic love stories. The band stands for a journey through all the different Rhythm 'n' Roots styles.

In the meanwhile they’ve been playing in every single corner of the Benelux, from the smallest pubs to the biggest stages. The band performed twice at the Belgium Rhythm 'n' Blues festival in Peer a.o., played in France (Cahors Blues Festival, Terri’Thouars Blues Festival, Blues au Chateau festival, a.o.), in Sweden (MönsteråsBlues Fest and Åmål's Blues Fest) and Germany (Blues in Lehrte Festival a.o.).

The band was pronounced winner of the 1st European Blues Challenge in Berlin in March 2011 and was invited to perform at the Rootsway Festival in Parma/Italy, the Notodden Blues Festival in Norway, the Lucerne Blues Festival in Switzerland, the Blues sur Seine Festival in France and Vienna Blues Spring in Austria. To celebrate this victory, their record company released the 12” vinyl EP “Howl”, produced by Kai Strauss.

Howlin' Bill entertains the audience with his deep voice and howlin' blues harp, supported by his tight rhythm section, Uncle T and Waylon Waters. Now, just add the unpredictable guitar licks and amazing guitar solos of star guitar player Little Jimmy, and you'll get an idea about what you may expect from a Howlin' Bill concert.

I cut my teeth playing open mic's in Houston Texas about 22 years ago ( Thank you Pearl and Lee Murray) I have played in the local clubs in Fort Worth, Tx. , and Houston , Texas. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. I am now a 10 year survivor. For the time being I am writing and recording at home, You can sometimes find me playing open mic nights in Fort Worth, Tx. Rockin’ blues es su segundo álbum y es la continuación perfecta del primero, Armónica blues, editado en 2006. Aquí, como en su antecesor, Jiménez se enfoca en clásicos del género a los que le suma un par de instrumentales propios. Así, su armónica cromática o su Marine Band sobrevuelan composiciones de Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Sonny Boy Williamson y Little Walter, todos referentes del blues de Chicago, aunque también se luce en una magnífica versión de Careless love, un tema que nos remite al Nueva Orleans de los años 20.

Los músicos que lo acompañan son todos de primer nivel y varían según la canción. Juan Codazzi, Roberto Porzio y Matías Cipilliano alternan la guitarra en 14 de los 15 temas que tiene el disco. Lo mismo pasa con el bajo y la batería, donde Mauro Diana y Mauro Ceriello se turnan con las cuatro cuerdas, y Gabriel Cabiaglia y Pato Raffo hacen lo mismo con la percusión. Apenas la mitad de los temas son cantados y para eso también hay invitados: Ricardo Tapia -de La Mississippi-, Javier “Ciego” Goffman y Gabriel Grätzer. La joya del disco es la versión de Stop breakin’ down, en la que Jiménez apenas se rodea de la guitarra de Daniel Raffo y la voz de Tapia para homenajear al legendario Robert Johnson.

La grabación de Rockin’ blues se realizó en tres sesiones en el Estudio Inartec, entre julio de 2010 y agosto del año pasado, y recién fue editado hace pocas semanas. Como sucede siempre en el ámbito del blues local, el disco demandó mucho esfuerzo y pasión, y el resultado refleja todo eso.

Live in London was the first Dr. Feelgood album to be recorded following the departure of guitarist Gordon Russell. New member Steve Walwyn had played just a handful of shows with the band when they headlined London's Town and Country Club, a sold-out show that was being filmed for a television special; it was only when the group listened to the tapes after the show that they decided there could be no better way of introducing the new recruit to the record-buying public. The set was classic late- '80s Feelgoods, ranging across the band's entire career and drawing the wildest crowd-pleasers from every era. Even among the old-old-timers, who in the audience could resist powerhouse renditions of "Milk and Alcohol," "Down at the Doctors," and "Route 66," pumped out with the Maxim gun intensity that had always been the Doctor's calling card?

Recorded at Bartlett Recording, this project was done over several sessions in the year 2000. To date, this is the largets ensemble I have put together for a recording. A very smooth disc with good songs, arrangements, and some very tasteful playing by experienced musicians. With the ever solid David Clawson during his second stint as drummer in the band (the first was in the mid 90's) lasting from 1999 until the U.S. version of the band dissolved in 2006. David teamed with Lord Pugh on thunderbass and myself were the regular live band during this period, until a couple of years afterward when Lindsay moved back to Canada. This disc also features the brilliant piano playing of the late Mickey Larson, whom we all miss dearly as musician and friend. We recieved extra help from Max on congas and percussion, and background vocals by Josée Larose and Crystal Blue Miller on track 11 (Water).

History of the Southside Denny Snyder:
The electric blues band is what made Denny’s reputation. After many different bands, Denny decided to start his own to begin honing his own musical ideas. In 1984, he formed the group “Southside Denny and the Skintones”, which became regionally known across a few states, and also began working in Canada, mostly in Ontario but also as far west as Vancouver. This band also produced two albums, the first of which received a good enough amount of airplay to put them on the road. The second one featured legendary harmonicist Sugar Blue. (of Willie Dixon and Rolling Stones fame).
In 1989 the group disbanded, and that brought about the Southside Denny Snyder Band, which over the years has employed so many different players it would be impossible to name them all here. However, the basis has always remained consistent as a three piece blues band featuring Denny’s songs and arrangements. The sound has also remained true as a hard edged Chicago sound, with hints of many different styles entertwined.
After three more discs (Rollin’ Home, Rendez-Vous Blues, and Movin’ On), Denny got adventurous and produced Eclectic in 2003, which is a collection of acoustic guitar pieces that was quite the surprise to many of his fan base, and also brought in some new listeners. Roots and Branches, in 2006 was also a total solo effort, yet steeped more in his blues roots (as the title suggests) and half instrumental pieces.
Denny's latest disc, titled Full Circle was released in March of 2009 and features 13 (six instrumental pieces and seven with vocals) new songs in both electric and acoustic settings. Full Circle won the Blues Album of the year in Québec at the Gala Lys in Montréal. Support for this project was provided by Lindsay Pugh on Bass, Simon Meilleur on drums and also includes Denny's daughter Lorrie singing with him on two of the tracks. Rick L. Blues also plays harmonica on two songs, along with some extra help from drummer Cliff Alloy and Ivanhoe Jolicoeur on trumpet and flugelhorn.

Although this soul shouter had a few hits in the early to mid-'60s (including the near classic "Village of Love"), it took nearly 40 years for Nathaniel Mayer to release his first album in 2004. While he's probably lost a few steps along the way, this is an explosive release that sounds as powerful in 2004 as it would have in 1964. With a searing, gritty voice somewhere between James Brown and Mitch Ryder and a terrific band that churns out tough garage R&B, this could have been recorded decades before it was released. That's a compliment of course, since there just aren't many contemporary soul discs that attack with this yard dog-styled intensity. Equally impressive is that all but three songs are original, written in the vein of classic Muscle Shoals-era Wilson Pickett without a hint of pretension or sense that Mayer is trying to emulate a long-gone style. There's a loose, natural swing to the music when the band, complete with snappy Farfisa organ and occasional horns, works a sizzling, unstoppable groove along with the singer. "You Gotta Work," "From Now On," "What's Your Name" -- just drop in anywhere and the churning funk-dance rhythms slice like the hardest-edged Southern R&B. A blistering, grinding version of John Lennon's "I Found Out" might seem like an unusual tune to cover, but it's one that the Beatle probably would have approved of due to the raw emotion Mayer finds in the lyrics. Just in case you think he's not as lip-snarling as he used to be, check out the lascivious, self-explanatory "Stick It or Lick It." Only the gutsy '50s ballad "You Are the One" interrupts the pace, but that proves Mayer is just as passionate on the occasional slow dance number as on the unhinged tracks that dominate the disc. At a brisk 35 minutes it's almost over too quickly, but hopefully listeners won't have to wait another four decades for its follow-up. ~Review by Hal Horowitz

Reggie Wayne Morris hails from Baltimore and he plays the blues with an infectious passion.Having spent a great deal of his childhood on his grandparents’ farm outside of Charlottesville, VA, he was reared on Gospel at their local Southern Baptist Church. The blues was also a part of family life, provided by guitar, piano, and harmonica playing family members. Over the years Reggie has developed an upbeat, rockin’ style that pays homage to those who bore witness and spread the blues news from generation to generation.

While the music often reflects the moods and gooves of yesterday, his contemporary, often witty lyrics—as in the song Virus Blues—about the phenomenon of cyber love! The title tune Blues Binge showcases Reggie’s fine guitar work. He has been a featured performer at the Baltimore Blues Festival for several years, a favorite on the Mid-Atlantic club circuit and has toured Italy and France.

Blues Binge is Reggies’s second release on Round Robin Records. The 13-cut CD features all original songs of which seven are penned by Reggie and Gerald “Gypsy” Wade. Reggie engages his audience with his incredible charm and humor he truly puts the “Show” in Show Business.

Israeli born guitarist, singer, and songwriter Bat-Or Kalo has beguiled U.S. audiences since first performing here in 2004, and she continues to impress with her latest project, KALO, the rock and R&B tinged blues band she’s fronted since 2012 with bassist Mack McKinney and drummer Erick Worrell.

Bat-Or’s unique history lends to a distinctive sound that’s been enthralling audiences from Oklahoma City to New York, Austin to Mississippi, and many places in between. In 2009, she released her first album, “Flesh and Bones,” recorded at Bardo Recording Studios near Tel Aviv. Inspired, she made a move to New York City where she honed her skills as a musician.

She reconnected with McKinney in 2012, and moved to Oklahoma City to record her sophomore album, “Dear John,” at Studio Seven. The album was released in October 2013.

Since finishing “Dear John,” KALO has been a trio of musical friends Bat-Or, McKinney, and Worrell. The band plays frequently throughout the Heartland, at festivals, venues and clubs, and is working on a third studio album.

KALO can be seen on great stages in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, and frequently at musical hubs in Texas as well.

The third studio album from Mark Cameron brings a stripped-down grit that makes for a down-and-dirty bluezy biscuit. The inspired work of Bill Keyes on Harp makes this a tour-de-force for Blues harp lovers. The flute playing of Sheri Cameron adds a Woodstock-era flair to the work as well.
