Chris BADNEWS Barnes and Grammy Award-winning producer, Tom Hambridge, have teamed up for Barnes’ first ever original blues album, BADNEWS RISING. This is Barnes’ third release with Vizztone Records. All ten original offerings written by Barnes & Hambridge were recorded at Nashville’s Sound Stage Studio with top studio musicians, Kevin McKendree (Delbert McClinton, Anson Funderburgh) on Piano/B3, Tommy MacDonald (Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter) playing Bass. Pat Buchanan (Cameo, Hall & Oates) on Guitar/Harmonica and Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy, Susan Tedeschi, Roy Buchanan) behind the console and drum kit as both producer and drummer. BADNEWS RISING delivers the same stock and trade ironic, salacious Hokum Blues lyrics that Barnes is known for. Barnes, a former Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock & Carol Burnett television show performer and writer, has made his mark in the blues community being hailed as The King of Hokum Blues by Elmore Magazine. His first Vizztone Release; Hokum Blues was an homage to The Hokum Boys, i.e .Tampa Red & Georgia Tom, a number one Chart Topper recruiting fellow New York City musicians Will Lee (David Letterman), Jimmy Vivino (Conan O’Brien), Shawn Pelton (Saturday Night Live Band), Bete Sussman (Bette Midler), and Harmonica virtuoso Steve Guyger (Jimmy Rogers). His second Vizztone release LIVE, was recorded aboard the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise. Tony Braunagel produced the album which received two Independent Blues Award nominations; Best Live CD and Best Blues Band. LIVE hit number eight on Billboard and number five on Amazon. Keeping the Blues Alive Award Winning Radio Broadcaster, Vincente’ Zummel, writes : “BADNEWS Barnes is in Blues what Frank Zappa was in 70’s underground sound. Great.” While BADNEWS RISING is an all original album the satiric muses are also punctuated with honest biographical blues driven gems like : When Koko Came to Town, Barnes tells the story of his early Hokum days performing at Tramps in New York City and sharing the stage with legends like Koko Taylor, Pinetop Perkins, Johnny Copeland. I Slow Danced with Joni Mitchell is a powerful juxtaposition of the highs and lows of Barnes’ celebrated career. A dark treacherous slow ballad co-written with John Hahn (Shemika Copeland) entitled, You Wanna Rock, You Gotta Learn The Blues is sure to draw you in. Two other co-writes , Quid Pro Quo with Chicago Blues authority Terry Abrahamson (Muddy Waters) and Chicks Dig Me, with John Murray, Bill Murray’s younger brother. BADNEWS RISING is exactly what we all need to bring us out of the crazy times. The deep driving rhythm combined with Barnes’ witty lyrics will have you singing right along with Texas Weiner, I Like Cleavage and My Baby Be Cray Cray.

None of this would have been possible without such encouragement from family and friends. The album was recorded at Foxden Studios in Sheffield by Grammy award winning producer Chris Wilkinson, who took a few average tunes added a bit of Nashville and turned them into something far more than they probably deserved !

Native Californian Shane Dwight relocated to Nashville in 2009 to further his musical career. Within six months of arriving on the scene he swiftly attained a solid reputation as a “guitar slinger” in his newly adopted hometown. Not one to completely abandon his roots, Dwight still chooses to divide his time between Nashville and his childhood ranch in Morgan Hill, California. Performing over 200 shows per year worldwide, Dwight has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music, including B.B. King, Etta James, Jimmie Vaughan, Taj Mahal, the Doobie Brothers, Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys and Johnny Winter. Additionally, Dwight has performed at numerous prestigious music festivals and events around the world, counted among them the Portlang Waterfront Blues Festival, Beale Street Music Festival, Ottawa Bluesfest, Bayfront Blues Festival, Bethlehem Musikfest, the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise, as well as the Monterey Blues Festival where he was crowned winner of the “Battle of the Bands.”

Critical accolades have followed Shane Dwight wherever he has gone. Blues Revuemagazine stated: “Shane Dwight is a talented musician and an impressive songwriter… Dwight’s guitar playing is as substantial as his songwriting.” The San Francisco Chronicle called him “a music sensation….;”Andrew Gilbert of the San Jose Mercury News said of Dwight: “Tough, lean guitar work and commanding vocals, he is a tour de force… Shane is a killer songwriter, singer, guitarist and performer… he is an artist who’s creating a soulful Americana sound.”

With eight CDs and two “Live” DVDs under his belt, Dwight’s music has been played on hundreds of radio stations in over 40 different countries, earning him considerable praise and accolades along the way. In 2011, Dwight’s song “True Love’s Gone” from his album “A Hundred White Lies” was selected by USA Today writer Jerry Shriver for his “Pick of the Week” column and the album charted on the Top 10 best-selling blues CD list on Amazon.com. The album also hit #3 on Sirius XM Satellite Radio’s Bluesville chart, debuted at #9 on the Living Blues Radio Chart, and was on the Top 40 “Roots Music” radio chart listings for over 6 months. “A Hundred White Lies” also peaked at #9 on the “Route 66” Americana music chart and remained on their Top 40 list for four straight months.

Building on the foundation set fourth by his previous critcally-acclaimed release “A Hundred White Lies”, singer, songwriter and guitarist Shane Dwight once again calls upon the expertise of Grammy Award-winning producer Kevin McKendree for his Eclecto Groove Records debut. “This House” finds Dwight retaining his blues-based roots, while also allowing for the influences of his current Nashville surroundings to seep into his music. Dwight is joined by special guest vocalist and co-writer Bekka Bramlett (daughter of Delaney and Bonnie) on two songs, along with a cash of Nashville’s finest, including rhythm guitarist Doug Lancio and drummer Kenneth Blevins (John Hiatt), as well as bassist Steve Mackey and drummer Lynn Williams (Delbert McClinton Band, Dick 50).

I am very excited about the release of my new album, Silver Cup. These have been difficult times for all of us, and the music industry in particular has taken a severe beating. Despite the uncertainties, I felt that the one thing that I could focus on was to stay creative. Having spent my adult life playing on the road, I took the lockdown as an opportunity to woodshed and get back to the roots of what made me the artist that I am today. I was listening to my vinyl albums, going down rabbit holes on the internet, reading biographies of musicians, and playing my many guitars and just feeling the energy of so much great music.

At first I was just writing without any blinders on. I wasn’t sure what would be next for me, but that was OK. Eventually I realized that it was time for a rootsy, down home recording that I could tour solo, as a duo, or with the band. Whatever the situation called for. The idea of recording at home with all my beautiful instruments really appealed to me.

I got in touch with my friend Steve Marriner, who I felt was the best person for this project. His skills as a musician are well known, but during the lockdown he had been honing his recording and engineering skills, which was perfect. We got to work right away and had a wonderful time creating this album.

The songs come from different aspects of my life. The title track was inspired by an antique silver cup that was handed down to me after my 95 year old grandmother passed away. It had originally belonged to James McKay, a Métis builder of Canada and my great, great, great uncle. I researched his amazing life and had to celebrate him in song! Top Shelf is inspired by a fellow musician who I crossed paths with many times over the decades. His final wish was that we celebrate his life by only drinking the best stuff from the top shelf. I raise my glass!!

Of course, there is a lot of blues to fill your shoes. Steve and I had fun getting the sounds we were looking for out of the vintage acoustic instruments on hand, and we even wrote a couple of songs together.

I can’t wait for things to get back to normal so I can hit the road with these new songs. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy listening to this album as much as we enjoyed making it! ~David Gogo

The critically acclaimed record produced three Top Ten hits at Triple-A radio, including lead single “Off the Ground,” which reached #1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart. This powerhouse known as The Terry Whalen Band are a 2012 Music NB Award winner for Blues Recording for their 2011 release of A Work in Progress in addition to 2015 Music NB Award winner for Blues Artist of the Year. These accomplishments are in addition to being a three time ECMA nominee for Blues Recording of the Year 2009, 2010 and 2012. They deliver a heart thumping blend of blues and rock that has been described by Jeff Liberty of JL Artists as "classic ZZ Top on Steroids!!!

TWB were a 2010 a finalist for the CBC Galaxie Rising Stars Showcase at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton, NB.

To date the band have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with blues legends, Matt Andersen, MonkeyJunk, Delbert McClinton, Jonny Lang, Robert Cray, The John Oates Band and the amazing James Cotton along with Jimmy D Lane, the son of the great Jimmy Rogers and Shirley King the daughter of BB King. The Terry Whalen Band has been compared to early ZZ Top, but what you will hear is one-of-a-king sound from frontman Terry Whalen and a band that delivers an original blend of blues and rock that will leave you wanting more. Whether it is the full band or Terry Whalen Squared or Terry doing a solo show the message is the same. Heartfelt rock and blues.

With a dedication to music that spans over 35 years in 2007 Terry decided it was time to set about releasing a catalogue of material that in some cases goes back as many years. Over the past twelve years this material jump started a collection of material that appeared on the debut release of Sleepwalker’s Blues in 2007. This was quickly followed by the release of The Devil’s Fireplace in 2008 and the 2009 release of A Wicked Driving Rain. April 12, 2011 marked the release of their fourth CD, A Work in Progress, an 11 track project. February, 2014 saw the release of their 5th disc, Two Steps Forward, and in January 2018, Terry's 6th CD titled Terry Whalen with Jock Downs - Nasty Little Bits - a striped down delivery of blues based storytelling.

It’s like finding another Scarlett Rivera – blues-roots fiddler/singer-songwriter Ilana Katz Katz has gone from Boston’s subway platforms to world stages. While Bob Dylan found Scarlett Rivera in the late 70s walking with her fiddle case in Greenwich Village, he took her off the streets to play gypsy violin on his “Desire” LP. Ilana was plucked from a crowd to play with blues guitarist Ronnie Earl.

One interesting tune “Woman, Play the Blues,” is impressive because I seldom hear the blues played via a dominant fiddle/guitar so well. Ms. Katz’s voice is perfect with a low-down tone that is as much seductive as it is provocative. The song works & most importantly she showcases it in such an original manner. She’s a natural, & a classically trained violinist to boot.

In My Mind is an 11-cut CD produced by Ghost Town Blues Band’s Matt Isbell (guitar/BGV/handclaps/tambourine). Matt recorded these with a haunting tint to the arrangements. Ilana provides sensitivity, & highly imaginative musical sweeps (“Nine Souls”). Amazing stuff.

“Won’t Pass Me By,” is an old-fashioned strut with deep bass tones (Chris Matheos) that follows the lead of Ilana’s fiddle. This tune could’ve been a great one for the late Billie Holiday. Exceptional. The lyrics work within the framework of the vintage circuity of this melody. Nice.

What I appreciate here is what many singers lack today – a signature sound, that’s recognizable as an original. There’s Ricki Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Allison Krauss & if you listen close Ms. Katz has that magical tone – she sounds like no one.

Her voice mixed generously with the bass-bouillon in the musical broth, crisp fiddle sawing, snap of drums, stellar vocalizing, melodies that aren’t old-styled as much as they are simply dipped in nostalgia with a twist. “Time To Go,” is excellent. But “Downtown With the Devil,” is superb. Captivating.
An Appalachian flavored “Hangman’s Reel,” is tastefully performed & this is where Allison Krauss & Ilana cross paths. Simply shimmering.

On this CD Ms. Katz (vocals/fiddle/shaker/porch board/handclaps) is joined also by Johnny Burgin (guitar), Stephen Dougherty (drums), & Kevin Houston (handclaps/BGV/Tympani and produced by Matt Isbell.

Adding some bluesy-jazz tones to “Ain’t No Way,” & far from cliches, Ms. Katz provides all the proof needed that despite her blues roots she is a diversified & versatile artist. “Bad Child,” simmers soulfully. Her intonation on these tracks is irrigated by the blues/soul tradition, her intuition: spot-on. Ms. Katz adds a Stax studio/Steve Cropper feel to “Well, Well Blues,” sings it straight with breathy prestige & warm tonality. In a word, these are all impressively done. I like this. ~John Apice

Throughout my career as a musician, I have strived to accomplish a high level of skill as a bassist by creating and developing deep grooves along with strong song sensitivity. As a GHS String endorsed artist, I am blessed to have their support to enable me to expand into new ventures in both live and recorded music.
As I have evolved and grown, I have also refined my role as composer, arranger, and producer as well. I have showcased my ability to perform in multiple stylings/genres with the release of my self-produced debut CD Offerings.

I have been a professional touring bassist for well over 20 years. My travels have taken me throughout the United States, Sweden, Russia, The United Kingdom and most of Europe. I have had the privilege of performing with such legendary artists as Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Lucky Peterson, Mississippi Heat, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Eddie Kirkland, Jason Ricci, Carl Weathersby, Drew Abbott, Thornetta Davis, Karen Lovely, Kelley Hunt, The Noueaux Honkies, Jennifer Westwood & The Handsome Devils and many more.
My performing talents have not only been dedicated to touring. My discography has covered Live Blues/Rock, Traditional Blues, Contemporary Christian, Americana, and R&B.

I have also been sharing my love for the Lord by performing Contemporary Christian music with the creative arts worship teams at Northridge Church in Plymouth, Michigan. This is a joy and passion that is very important in my life. The ability to spread the Word and love of Jesus is such a blessing and an honor.

As a child, I was inspired by jazz, soul and classical music recordings that I heard in and around my home. I took that passion and applied it to education. Beginning at the age of eight, my aptitude and understanding of music history and theory just added to my natural ability to perform. With studies at Blue Lake Music Camp and Interlochen National Music Campas a teenager, I became an outstanding classical upright bassist for my age, earning positions in both the Michigan Youth Symphony and the Saginaw Symphony, respectively. I continued my education with studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI and Jazz studies at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, IL. There I applied my accumulated experience to bass guitar and immersed myself in the Chicago music scene, most significantly, the blues scene!

I am grateful to live my life meeting so many people that inspire Joy in the world. Music can reach every person in a different way but there is no doubt that it can change your life, give hope, express love, and heal your soul. I plan to continue sharing what inspires me for as long as I am able.

Peace & God Bless. ~Joseph

10. Loser (7:16)

Award-winning Texas guitar slinger, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Carolyn Wonderland will release her Alligator Records debut album, Tempting Fate. The album, produced by famed master roots musician Dave Alvin, is the next chapter in Wonderland’s remarkable career, one that is already overflowing with countless, colorful, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. She spent the last three years as lead guitarist in blues legend John Mayall’s Blues Breakers, and has now joined the Alligator Records family as the first female guitar hero in the label’s storied 50-year history. But that’s not all. Her spine-chilling, soul-deep singing matches her guitar prowess note for note. And she has a knack for writing songs that sound like instant classics.

Wonderland has been performing professionally since the age of 15. Her music is a bold mix of timeless original songs and reinventions of some of her favorites, ranging from blistering electric blues to deep, heartfelt ballads to cosmic country to soulful Tex-Mex. Every song is fueled by Wonderland’s forceful yet melodic Texas-flavored guitar work and her full-throated, heart-on-her-sleeve vocals.

Tempting Fate is Wonderland’s 11th album, and it finds her delivering ten riveting songs, including five fiery originals and one co-write. Her vocals range from raw and fierce to subtle and gentle. Her guitar work, on both six-string and lap steel, is often explosive and always melodic. According to Dave Alvin, “Carolyn is unique, strong, soulful and sincere. She can pick and belt out the blues with the best of them, but her powerful, melodic vocals and six-string stylings are truly her own. Traditional yet innovative, tough yet tender, Carolyn always sounds like no one else but herself.”

On every song—from the searing, guitar-heavy Broken Hearted Blues to the tender and poignant Crack In The Wall to the very Texan love song for her boot collection, Texas Girl And Her Boots, to the politically-charged Fragile Peace And Certain War to the take-no-prisoners version of the Grateful Dead’s Loser—Wonderland throws herself completely into the music. Her shining duet with Texas singing/songwriting legend Jimmie Dale Gilmore on Bob Dylan’s It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry redefines the song. Her explosive guitar work and commanding vocals on John Mayall’s The Laws Must Change makes his song hers.

In addition to her longtime road band—bassist Bobby Perkins and drummer Kevin Lance—who anchor every song, guests on Tempting Fate include Jimmie Dale Gilmore on vocals, Cindy Cashdollar on lap steel guitar, Marcia Ball on piano, Shelley King on background vocals, Jan Flemming on accordion and Red Young on organ and piano, with producer Dave Alvin playing guitar on three songs. “The joy was palpable, getting to play with my friends and heroes at Stuart Sullivan’s studio, and Stuart captured that joy in the recording. You can hear the smile on my face and tear in my eye on every track. And everyone sat up straight for Dave Alvin, who had great ideas as our producer.”

Wonderland has been a road warrior for over 20 years. She’s played all over the U.S. and in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Panama, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Canary Islands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Japan. In 2018, venerated musician and bandleader John Mayall chose Wonderland to be lead guitarist in his band, The Blues Breakers. She became the first woman ever to hold that position. (The all-star list of Mayall’s legendary guitarists includes Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Peter Green, Coco Montoya and Walter Trout.) She toured the world with Mayall, once playing 50 shows in 60 days in 19 countries. She recently left the band to tour in celebration of her new Alligator album.

Carolyn Wonderland was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in a house full of music and instruments. She first started playing guitar at age six. After she scratched up her mother’s vintage Martin guitar by imitating Pete Townsend’s famous windmill move, she was forbidden from using a pick. Because of that, she developed her aggressive, distinctive finger-picking guitar attack. Her early influences include her mom, Houston guitar legends Albert Collins, Jerry Lightfoot, Little Screamin’ Kenny and Joe “Guitar” Hughes, as well as blues and soul vocalist Lavelle White. Singing came naturally, as did learning to play just about every instrument she got her hands on. She plays trumpet, accordion, lap steel, piano, and mandolin.

With four albums already under her belt, Wonderland moved to Austin, Texas in 1999, where she quickly earned a large and loyal following, creating plenty of press buzz and radio attention. Then one day in 2003, legendary musician Ray Benson (of Asleep At The Wheel) was having lunch with his friend Bob Dylan, who had heard Wonderland’s music. Dylan asked Benson, “Hey, have you heard Carolyn Wonderland? She’s something else.” Dylan wanted to meet Wonderland, so Benson got her number from a mutual friend and called her in Houston, telling Wonderland to get to Austin immediately to meet with Dylan. She drove the 165 miles at record speed to spend some time with him. They’ve crossed paths since, sometimes jamming, sometimes just talking about music (“He’s a true musicologist,” she says of Bob). “Sometimes he’ll just call,” Wonderland says.”It’s always a pleasant surprise to me when he does, so I’ll likely never change my number.”

Benson went on to produce Wonderland’s next four albums, all critically acclaimed fan favorites. According to Benson, “Carolyn’s got that unbelievable, incredible voice, one of the great voices of our times. She’s got the range, the emotion. She’s also an incredible guitar player and a great person. The combination is disarming and totally real. That’s magic.”

The Boston Herald describes Carolyn as “a dollop of Janis Joplin, a slice of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and a big load of soulful individuality. That’s Wonderland, a seething-hot Texas singer-guitarist. And she can write, too.” Now, with Tempting Fate and a major tour in the works, Carolyn Wonderland is excited to get back out on the road and reconnect with her fans and friends. “We will play dang near anywhere that’ll have us,” she says. Of her chosen profession, the effervescent Wonderland told NPR Music’s Mountain Stage, “I wouldn’t recommend it for the faint of heart, but it sure is a good time.”

Kris Lager is a one-of-a-kind songwriter, guitarist, singer, keyboardist, and entertainer. An intense and charismatic performer who has traveled across the country honing his craft over the last two decades . He has developed a unique 'Celebrate Life' message and mantra that emanates with every performance. A message that creates a congregation of dancing, singing, and clapping people with smiles on their faces at every show.

Many of his peers are calling him: "One of the most gifted songwriters of his generation."

World renowned musician Andy Frasco recently called Kris "His favorite songwriter!" on his 'World Saving Podcast' and said a lot of the songs for which he has built his 'positive' foundation on were written by Kris. Legendary Rock 'n' Roll Producer, who has mixed two of Kris' albums, Jim Gaines (Santana, SRV, Van Morrison, Steve Miller) says Kris has "A great voice and great songs!" Paste Magazine calls the music "The kind of toe-tapping rhythm that sometimes you just need to make it through a day."

A Lincoln native based out of Omaha, Nebraska, Kris and his band have built a reputation as a hardworking Independant band refusing to play by industry rules or pander for awards and accolades. They just hit the road and the stage with an intense purpose of uplifting and engaging audiences while delivering a flavorful gumbo of feel good rhythms and soulful songs.

New album: 'Blues Lover'

It seems like a lot of folks have gotten rather nostalgic throughout this past year and a half of the pandemic and it is safe to say Kris Lager has too. He found himself going back to his blues roots; back to where he started when he first picked up a guitar.

His first stage experiences were at a weekly Blues Jam at Duggan's Pub in Lincoln, Nebraska and also playing at the world famous Zoo Bar. Kris Frequently played alongside Nebraska Blues legends such as Magic Slim, Lil' Slim, Baby Jason, and Sean Benjamin. All of them nurturing and inspiring his love for blues music.

"I've never released a straight up blues record before and I thought.. you know what? I'm gonna go for it. I'm gonna record these songs that I've been playing for twenty years and just have some fun." said Kris. Eight of his most beloved blues songs as well as two original tunes comprise the new album 'Blues Lover'.

There's two Albert King tracks, a Shuggie Otis tune as well as Buddy Guy, Paul Butterfield, Shawn Holt, Snooky Pryor, and Blind Lemon Jefferson covers on the recording rounded out by two original songs: 'I Just Want To See You happy' and 'Back Home To The Blues' co-written by Mark Ryan.

The album was recorded and mixed by Kris Lager himself at his studio 'The Conduit' and released on his label 'Fervent Ameba Records'. The first of many self-produced recordings according to Kris. All songs were recorded live straight to tape using his legendary Tascam 388 tape machine. "This recording was exactly the sound I was going after. A squishy analog sound that gives the listener an old school vibe. A vibe that I really dig as a blues lover and I think other blues lovers will too. With the help of Doug Van Sloun from Focus Mastering I believe we achieved a great sounding recording." exclaims Kris.

Cuby & the Blizzards was the most important blues group of the Netherlands in the sixties. They were also popular throughout Europe, and Cuby worked with John Mayall, Alexis Corner and Eddy Boyd, to name only a few. Cuby had a big following and made several records. In the early 70's the band broke up and Cuby went his own way, and so did blues & funk singer Harry Muskee. In the 90's Cuby & the Blizzards reunited. The famous & excellent guitarplayer Eelco Gelling however stayed at home and was replaced by Erwin Java.

The CD "Travelling With The Blues" is a live record wich contains songs from the early Cuby days as well as newer songs Muskee recorded in the 70's & 80's. The six piece band is here in fine shape and is being accompanied by a good horn section. The ongoing mission of Cuby to bring the blues to the Dutch audience is well succeeded with this record.

The time has come for Thorbjørn Risager’s fifth CD. Ever since the debut, this great Danish vocalist and his equally outstanding band is delivering new albums with about a year’s interval, full of new compositions. How they find time for this – especially the composing – in spite of their intense touring, is a bit of a mystery. As usual, nearly all the songs are written by Thorbjørn and/or the band. The only exception is a brilliant version of the classical Baby Please Don’t Go.

Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. (November 20, 1941 – June 6, 2019), better known by his stage name Dr. John, was an American singer and songwriter. His music combined blues, pop, jazz, boogie-woogie, and rock and roll.

Active as a session musician from the late 1950s until his death, he gained a following in the late 1960s after the release of his album Gris-Gris and his appearance at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music. He typically performed a lively, theatrical stage show inspired by medicine shows, Mardi Gras costumes, and voodoo ceremonies. Rebennack recorded 30 studio albums and 9 live albums, as well as contributing to thousands of other musicians' recordings. In 1973 he achieved a top-10 hit single with "Right Place, Wrong Time".

The winner of six Grammy Awards, Rebennack was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by singer John Legend in March 2011. In May 2013, Rebennack received an honorary doctorate of fine arts from Tulane University.

Since the early years of the 20th century American blues music has had one purpose, to make people feel better. Blues is a joyous, sometimes ruckus experience. It is not moored to an intellectual and often overly academic approach found in its counterpart Jazz. It is alive with spirit and excitement. As the foundation of all popular music in America, Blues has many very familiar elements.

Big Daddy T's House Rockin' Blues band mixes these elements of Rock, Soul, Jazz and Funk in a variety of different ways. Big Daddy T can perform as a duet or as a quintet and everything in between. This blend of ingredients is “cooked on high heat” by a group of highly talented musicians with a stage show that can only be described as exhilarating.

The Quintet is made up of Tony "Big Daddy T" Wisler Vocals and Bass; Billy Burke Guitar, Joe Chellman Drums, W. Micheal Lewis on Organ and Johnny Pie Harmonic

Big Daddy T grew up in Southern California and discovered the Blues at an early age. “I can remember listening to Josh White at age 14 and being captivated by songs like ‘One Meatball’ and ‘Well, Well, Well.’” He has performed professionally in Atlanta, Nashville, Texas and Southern California as a studio musician and stage performer.

T has worked with Johnny Pierce and Jim Emerich, Co-Producers and Co-Founders of Grammy nominated Nashville Production Company, Cedar House Productions. He has also performed behind Gold and Platinum Singer/Songwriter David Pameranz. His session credits include CunninLynguist break-out CD “A Piece of Strange”. Particularly notable is Tony’s work on the track, “Caved In”, featuring Cee-Lo Green.

He studied under Gold Record Session Guitarist Barry Richman and George Marinelli of Bruce Hornsby and the Range and Bonnie Raitt. They are still friends and Tony considers each as primary influences on his bass playing philosophy.

Influenced by Hot Jazz from the 20’s, Blues artists from the 30’s, Big Band Swing from the 40’s and house rockin’ Electric Blues from the 50’s, 60’s and beyond, Big Daddy T will entertain with high energy music and a spirit of enthusiasm worthy of any venue.

The swedish-danish band The Kokomo Kings has gained a reputation of playing an uncompromising brew on a variety of low down rocking roots music, grounded deep in the blues. They have been described as being ”more rock’n’roll than rock’n’roll” and having ”energy level 11”.
In 2018 The Ameripolitan Music Awards in Memphis nominated the band for the best rockabilly band-award, and the same year they won the ”Band of the Year”-award from the Blues Lounge Radio Show in the U.K.

These four lovely guys really deserve some more attention.

10. Ashes To The Wind (5:00)

Produced by Grammy-winner Jim Gaines (Santana, Steve Ray Vaughan, and Journey) and recorded at Sonic Ranch in, Tornillo, Texas, Long As I Got My Guitar features ten songs performed in Harmon’s inimitable funky, soul-blues sound. Backing Zac’s lead guitar and vocals on most of the tracks are The Rays: Bob Trenchard – bass; Richy Puga – drums; Johnny McGhee – guitar; Dan Ferguson – keyboards; plus, SueAnn Carwell and Corey Lacey – background vocals; with Harmon’s regular touring band on additional tracks. Catfood Records released his 2019 label debut, Mississippi Bar BQ, also produced by Jim Gaines, to rave critical acclaim and extensive radio airplay.

The songs on Long As I Got My Guitar include tunes co-penned by Harmon and Catfood Records owner Bob Trenchard. The album’s repertoire runs the gamut of the blues experience: from the uptown sound of “Soul Land” and “Love for You Baby;” to the gritty “Deal with the Devil,” “People Been Talking,” “Waiting to Be Free,” “New Year’s Day” and the title track, the latter two especially distinguished by Harmon’s stinging blues guitar attack. Dan Ferguson’s accordion playing on “Crying Shame,” even adds a little Zydeco touch to the track.

“This probably is the most memorable record of my career,” Zac Harmon says about the new CD. “Bob Trenchard and I were so much on the same page with all that we went through in 2020 that it spawned some incredibly emotional song testimonials, such as “Scatter My Ashes to the Wind.” Great songs, great musicians and a great producer have once again created a great musical presentation.”

It’s been a minute since Blues Music Award Winner, BigLLou Johnson as released any new blues music. Not that he hasn’t been in the studio though. Au contraire, he practically lives in his own home studio where he says he tries to stay busy churning out voice overs for TV and radio spots and even doing character voices for toys. But you may know him best as the Voice Host of one of the biggest blues stations in the world, B.B. Kings Bluesville on Sirius-XM, a gig he’s had since Sirius and XM merged. He was chosen by the original and legendary Program Director, Bill Wax.

The two became great friends and it was Bill who encouraged him to record his first blues album and use local musicians from Chicago. Bill also invited him to co-host the Blues Music Awards which were broadcast on Bluesville at the time. It was in Memphis that he met the blues legend Mr. Bobby Rush who gave him the advice, “When you make a record... make sure you put your name in it so folks will remember you.” And that’s how the Blues Music Award winning album, They Call Me Big LLou, came into being. BigLLou took home the award for “Best New Artist” in 2013.

Fast forward to 2020 — America is divided and in the throngs of a pandemic, so BigLLou thought that this was as good a time as any to put pen to paper and finish the album he’d been working off and on for years. “SunShine On Yo Face” is the first release from the upcoming album, Big Man – The Legend of BigLLou, on GoldenVoice Audio Recordings. The tune is available on all streaming platforms and from his website. Portions of the proceeds from the single will benefit the Covid-19 Blues Musician Emergency Relief Fund.

BigLLou has appeared on nearly a dozen “OPPs”… other people’s projects, since the release of his award-winning debut, including Bobby Rush and Blind Dog Smokin’s Decisions, Columbia Records’ hip hop artist Raury, and BigLLou’s own follow up to his first R&B recording, The LongShot Sessions – II, among them.

A transplanted Chicago native now living and working in Los Angeles, he co-produced Big Man – The Legend of BigLLou with his longtime producing partner Keith Stewart. Stewart, also a Chicago native, is a former member of the popular 70’s R&B group Heaven & Earth. The music for “Sunshine” was recorded in Chicago and BigLLou did the vocals from his home studio. “I’m in the studio everyday anyway, so why fly to somebody else’s studio. Most of the tunes I’ve been on for other artists I’ve recorded remotely, so I’m kinda used to it now.” says BigLLou.

“SunShine On Yo Face,” is the first acoustical recording of BigLLou since he sang with his traditional gospel group “Phava” over 15 years ago. “It’s a simple little ditty that we hope listeners will latch on to and remember when they need a break from crap, plus it kinda sticks in yo head after you hear it a few times… The other nine tracks on Big Man were recorded in Memphis and have some heavy hitt’n blues players… cain’t say who just yet.. but I hope my bluesy friends like it,” says BigLLou.

“SunShine On Yo Face” has been submitted to the Blues Foundation for single consideration for the 2021 BMAs. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the single will benefit their Covid-19 Blues Musician Emergency Relief Fund through his GoldenVoice Audio Foundation to financially help individuals and organizations that support blues music and the musicians.

With a voice as big as the Grand Canyon and a personality to match, let’s hope that BigLLou continues to find the time in his studio, to keep on keeping the blues alive and sharing his Golden Voice with all “His Bluesy Friends.”
