60 years into a remarkable career, The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol isn’t slowing down. The legendary Bay Area vocalist has announced her new double album, ‘Faye Sings the Blues’. The 20-song collection is the second of four double albums Carol plans to release over a 12-month span, reaffirming her lifelong commitment to preserving and celebrating traditional blues. Backed by a four-piece horn section and an all-star cast of musicians, the album blends timeless classics with original compositions, all delivered with the unmistakable style she’s spent six decades perfecting. “I wanted people to hear the real 12-bar blues with great horn arrangements, played by great musicians,” says Carol.
Joining her throughout the album are an extraordinary lineup of guests, including Taj Mahal, Robert Randolph, Eric Gales, James Carter, Wycliffe Gordon, Gerald Albright, Russell Gunn, Nicholas Payton, Kirk Whalum, Jon Faddis, Tia Fuller and Jubu Smith. The lead single pairs Carol’s rich, soulful voice with Randolph’s expressive pedal steel on a vibrant reimagining of the B.B. King classic. Born in Mississippi and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Carol built her reputation performing with Johnny Talbot & De Thangs before touring with Marvin Gaye and sharing stages with artists including Otis Redding, James Brown, the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. She later became one of the first Black performers to earn widespread acclaim in cabaret, while mentoring generations of artists including Ledisi and Kehlani and founding community music education programs that continue to inspire young musicians today.
Recorded primarily live at Oakland’s 25th Street Recording, ‘Faye Sings the Blues’ features fresh interpretations of blues standards including “Let the Good Times Roll,” “Blow Top Blues,” “Soulful Dress” and “Fine & Mellow,” alongside new originals like “Bad, Bad News” and “Chill With You.” The album follows Carol’s acclaimed 2026 comeback release, ‘Forever Dynamic’, and will be followed by two more ambitious projects, ‘A Soulful Christmas’ and ‘Blues, Baroque, and Bars’. “These are songs that I’ve always loved,” says Carol. “I might put my own spin on it, ‘Carolize’ it up, but I never change the core of the song.”
Personnel: Faye Carol (vocals); Joe Warner (piano); Tarus Mateen (upright bass); Dante Roberson (drums); Russell Gunn (trumpet); Charles McNeal (alto saxophone); James Carter (tenor saxophone); Wycliffe Gordon (trombone).
