This quintessential release presents K-Doe's complete debut album, and one of the finest lost treasures of New Orleans R&B,Mother-in-Law, originally released by the local Minit label in 1962, and long unavailable on any format. It was only the second long-playing album from Minit (the label's first LP was a compilation of various artists, titled Home of the Blues). The songs were produced and arranged in different sessions by Allen Toussaint, which provided his usual style and the right combination of rolling rhythms, pianos, horns, warm vocals… and mellow funk as well. Aside from it's celebrated title track, other highlights include “Te-Ta-Te-Ta-Ta,” “Make You Love Me,” “Tain't It the Truth,” “Wanted $10,000.00 Reward,” and the gospel-soaked "There's A Will, There's A Way." In addition to the original masterpiece, this remastered collector's edition also contains 10 bonus tracks, including a bunch of hard-to-find sides from thesame period, such as the groovy “Real Man,” the ballad “Loving You,” and the catchy “A Certain Girl,” which was a major influence on the British "mod" community of the '60s.

Personnel:
Ernie K-Doe, lead vocals
Plus: Allen Toussaint (piano), and probably Robert Parker or Nat Perrilliat (tenor sax), Alvin "Red" Taylor (baritone sax), Justin Adams or Roy Montrell (guitar), Frank Fields (bass), Charles "Hungry" Williams (drums), Benny Spellman (bass vocals), Irma Thomas, Willie Harper, or Joe Tex (backing vocals).
Additional backing vocals are unknown.

Recorded at Cosimo Matassa Recording Studio, New Orleans, Louisiana, between 1959 and 1962.
