Austin-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Ruthie Foster released her new studio album, ‘Just Say Yes’, following last year’s album Mileage, which won Foster her first-ever GRAMMY Award. The new record was produced in Nashville by Tyler Bryant of The Shakedown and Rebecca Lovell of Larkin Poe. The album reflects Foster’s approach to life’s challenges, connections and opportunities. Its title came from a simple note Foster wrote to herself: “I wrote this thing on a sticky note and it just said ‘Just say yes’.”
Songs such as Thank You and Tangled address more difficult and introspective moments, while Take Time focuses on perseverance and the small steps that can lead to bigger achievements. The album also features a guest appearance by Larkin Poe on Come on Up. Foster co-wrote songs for the album with Bryant, Rebecca Lovell, Megan Lovell and Mike Seal. The resulting collection draws on Foster’s broad musical background while remaining centered on her own experiences and songwriting. /Henk Hekkelman, Bluestown Music
