Fabulous Thunderbirds : Tuff Enuff / Hot Number

Since 1975 the Fabulous Thunderbirds were a hard working blues band from Texas with hard core fans but no international recognition. During their first tour in England, they met Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds (of Rockpile). Lowe produced their fourth album "T-Bird Rhythm", a solid collection of songs that sadly failed to yield any hits. Chrysalis, their record label, dropped them after four albums, and Keith Furguson left the band. Preston Hubbard from Roomful of Blues replaced him but the band struggled to get a new recording contract. In 1986 the T-Birds went to London to record a new album with Dave Edmunds at the console. The album (Tuff Enuff) is a fine document of of the Thunderbirds' electric Texas barbecue of chooglin Chicago blues, sassy Memphis Soul and Louisiana zydeco hop, but most record companies weren't interested!! The band financed a video of "Tuff Enuff" and finally CBS Records signed the band. The album "Tuff Enuff" scored two major hit singles in the title track and "Wrap It Up". These singles put the band on the international music radar and turned them into MTV stars. Dave Edmunds remained their producer for three more albums over five years, before major changes in the T-birds line-up and the changing music trends of the 1990s disrupted “business as usual” for the group.
