Born on the banks of the Mississippi and raised in Georgia, Mudcat dropped out of acting school in New York to pursue a Blues major on the streets. Eventually he graduated to Atlanta where he converted the Northside Tavern into his school of music. His tutelage continues under Cootie Stark, Frank Edwards, Eddie Tigner and Cora Mae Bryant. A world-class slide guitarist with a voice so rich it feels fattening, Mudcat's education is something you can feel right to your bones.

Daniel ‘Mudcat’ Dudeck began his career performing on street corners from Savannah to New Orleans, where he learned how to captivate an audience with his blues-influenced songs and style. Settling in Atlanta, Dudeck began collaborating with the city’s blues, soul and jazz greats, such as Frank Edwards and Grady ‘Fats’ Jackson. The opportunity to perform with Taj Mahal and Dicky Betts furthered this musical schooling. Mudcat took this expertise to Europe on several tours, where he continued to formulate his style of roots and blues in his original compositions.
Meanwhile in Chicago, Joe Burton was playing trombone as a teenager with Junior Wells and serving as Junior’s bandleader. Shortly afterwards, Burton joined B.B. King’s band, where he performed for more than a decade. Eventually landing in Atlanta, he formed the Atlanta Horns, performing with many of the city’s blues and jazz players.
Collaborating for the last 13 years, Burton and Dudeck’s diverse backgrounds have shaped the Mudcat sound. One was raised in the traditional Chicago blues scene and brings decades of formal blues experience; the other was influenced by Southern blues pioneers and driven to create an original version of the music. The result brings audiences to their feet. This unexpected union produces a fresh, new aspect to the blues/roots rock genre, culminating in the release of “While You Were Away.”
