A Contra Blues is an established band on the Spanish national blues scene. Since the band’s founding in 2005 they have performed on diverse stages, both national and international, participating in competitions such as the Barcelona International Blues Festival (2009), the Cazorla International Blues Festival (2009) and the Deux Rivières International Festival (Belle-Isle-En-Terre, France, 2013) among others. A Contra Blues have also released three records: the eponymous A Contra Blues (2008), Chances (2013) and R&B (Rarezas & Blues), and they have also recorded two promotional demos of their concerts in 2010 in Sala Salamandra (A Contra Blues II) and in 2012 in the Conservatorio del Liceo (En vivo).
Their repertoire is a blend of tradition and heterodoxy, mixing together naturally as they bring a touch of freshness and maturity both to their own compositions as well as blues and Americana classics. As well as these qualities, their performances masterfully combine spontaneity and complex arrangements. Their energetic shows, of up to 180 minutes, are experiences filled with power, solidity and understanding. A Contra Blues live for performing their live shows, naturally forging a relationship with their audiences, and achieving climactic moments, both in the most dynamic moments and in the more intimate passages. A musical offering that will leave no one indifferent. Unsurprisingly the band’s dedication and the sheer musical force of their live shows have been recognised on diverse occasions: The Vitamina Viladecans Live Contest (2007), The Barcelona Blues Society Competition (2009) and the Festinoval Prize (2009). The prize won recently at the European Blues Challenge 2014, held in Riga (Latvia), particularly stands out.
