With "Doctor Velvet", Mojo Man Little Victor launched the series "The Mojo Man Special", a series of dance floor killers. Volumes 2 and 3 have already been released. We will now pay attention to volume 2, entitled "Voodoo Doll". Volume 3 will be next soon. Volume 2 contains 24 dance grooves of various origins registered under the "crème de la créme". The Interiors provide the first track, which is the title track of the album, with some doo-wop. Injected even more with classic doo-wop is "Trickle Trickle" by The Videos. The blues will be represented for the first time by Louisiana blues artist Lightnin 'Slim, who recorded for Excello. "I'm Tired Waitin 'Baby", a beautiful piece of uptempo Louisiana blues, he canned for that label in 1961. More blues will follow later with "Fine Little Mama" by slide virtuoso Elmore James. Another blues legend, John Lee Hooker, lives up to 100% of his reputation as a boogie specialist in "I'm Going Upstairs". Accordionist Clifton Chenier, widely regarded as the king of the zydeco, was the first Creole artist to receive a Grammy. Rightly so if you hear him here with "My Soul". Lefty (Guitar) Bates may be a guitarist, in this blues instrumental it is the sax that works its way into the spots. The sax is also a prominent part of Joe Shepard's rhythm & blues track "A Thousand Miles", which is followed by Priscilla Bowman's soft jazzy inspired "Sugar Daddy". Big Boy Miles gets his teeth into the classic "New Orleans", a swinging ode to the Crescent City. Rock and roll was a challenge for Chuck Berry. His "Johnny B. Goode" is an "all time classic". Here you get it in the not bad version of Al White & The Hi-Liters. That the most diverse genres are covered is underlined by The Original Gospel Harmonettes with "Get Away Jordan", which is continued in Esquerita's also gospel-soaked "Get Back Baby". Ganimian & his Oriental Music create an Eastern feel in "Come With Me To The Casbah", also known as Los Straitjackets "Casbah" for short.
The variety of musical genres, as well as the fact that all 24 songs are very danceable, are the trumps of this album. Already curious about volume 3?
