The Los Angeles Side Hustle is an American roots trio consisting of Bill Barrett (harmonica, vocals), Marcus Watkins (guitar) and Eric Holden (bass). They play The Great American Songbook (the roots edition): Louis Jordan, Professor Longhair, Champion Jack Dupree, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Sonny Boy Williamson, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and others.
Bill's career spans four decades performing and recording with artists such as The L.A. Philharmonic, Natalie Merchant, Marc Ford (Black Crowes), Hazmat Modine, The Kronos Quartet, Gangbe Brass Band, Greg Ginn (Black Flag), and Nels Cline (Wilco).
Eric is currently with Austin legends The Arc Angels (Doyle Bramhall II, Charlie Sexton and Chris Layton). He has traveled the planet for years with legendary artists like The BoDeans, Five For Fighting, Vertical Horizon, Shakira, and Josh Groban and has recorded and performed with such luminaries as Bela Fleck, Nina Hagen, Elton John, and John Williams.
Marcus has been a professional musician since age 15. He has traveled extensively, performing and recording with diverse artists including Nina Hagen, Johnny Halliday, Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), The Blue Hawaiins, Josey Cotton and Eric Burdon. He’s currently playing with The Bone Daddy’s and Double Knot Spy Car.
