The history of blues music will eventually place Bob Corritore in the position he truly deserves. In the meantime, Bob continues his work of elevating the blues to the status of contemporary music. Perhaps Bob is the most generous, the most ubiquitous, the most respectful, and the most deeply committed musician to the universality of a genre that goes far beyond its musical conceptualization. Roots music, African American music, owes its existence to the commitment of its performers, to the shared responsibility of the great family that has embraced and sustained it.
Corritore embodies an intrinsic value within the blues. As a harmonica player, he is already a hero to all those involved, as a reference point, he is an irreplaceable activist working to preserve and harmonize a collective legacy. Born in Chicago in 1956, he first played on Maxwell Street in the early '70s and soon after moved to Phoenix, where he led the scene by performing and recording tirelessly. From those private sessions, Bob has brought to light true gems in his collection "From The Vaults", documents of an era in which legendary artists shared sessions with Corritore that we’ve gradually discovered over recent years.
His latest unearthed treasure is "Early Blues Sessions", sixteen tracks recorded between 1984 and 2007 with legends like Little Milton, Jimmy Rogers, Robert Lockwood Jr. and Lowell Fulson among many others. From here, we can only thank Bob Corritore not only for his music, but also for his unwavering commitment, his loyalty to the blues, his educational efforts, and his unshakable sense of responsibility in showing future generations how this music has kept its soul alive and contributed to the evolution of 20th-century popular culture.
