Joe Bonamassa - Live At The Greek Theatre (2 CD)

Celebrated blues rock master, Joe Bonamassa delivers a musical tribute to The Three Kings Of the Blues at the legendary Greek Theatre filmed in August 2015. This concert is a continuation of the celebration of our blues heritage, which began with the 2014 production of Joe Bonamassa - Muddy Wolf at Red Rocks presented by Keeping The Blues Alive and was a tribute to the music of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Whereas such a quotient of live albums could seem an extravagance, with Joe, each show is a chance to reinvent, and it is simply not in Joe’s nature to take the easy route and simply play the hits. Instead, Joe’s shows are an exploration in which he challenges himself and the audience, offering up radical reinterpretations.

This DVD/CD also harks back to his heroes in the form of the three kings (Albert, BB and Freddie). The whole package is just beautiful which comprises the audio and video of the show (with some interchangeable songs) and clocks in at over two hours of driving blues heaven. Just like his recent UK tour Joe didn’t take the easy road and the set list chosen although filled with classics there are plenty of surprises and you know that Joe has handpicked these for no other reason other than the pure love he has for them.

The eleven-piece band included Anton Fig (drums), Kirk Fletcher (guitar), Michael Rhodes (bass), Reese Wynans (piano, Hammond organ), Lee Thornburg (trumpet, horn arrangements), Paulie Cerra (saxophone), Nick Lane (trombone), and a trio of backup singers including Mahalia Barnes, Jade MacRae, and Juanita Tippins. The 22 tracks on offer is blues rock the way they were meant to be played, a big band, a big sound and a whole collection of guitars, horns and piano.
