The Groovy Four is a recently formed international electric blues quartet with West Coast and R&B overtones. The guitar and voice of Martín Burguez and the sax of Arnaud Desprez create groovy melodies and riffs along with the solid rhythm base provided by Oriol Fontanals on double bass and Pascal Mucci on drums. Four musicians who have many years of experience on the stages of Europe, connoisseurs of the style and lovers of the genre, came together to form this new project that has influences ranging from Tiny Grimes, Bill Jennings, Red Prysock and Joe Houston to shades of Oscar Alemán or music of their own authorship, always invoking the great references of the music that were shining in the 40's and 50's. Recently, they have recorded their first album full of blues, swing and rhythm and blues.
Martín Burguez, prominent Uruguayan guitarist and singer currently lives in Barcelona. He began his career in Buenos Aires and, together with his band El Club del Jump, became one of the main artists on the city's music scene. He has played with great American musicians such as James Boogaloo Bolden, trumpet player and leader of B.B. King's band, Lurrie Bell, Sax Gordon, Kirk Fletcher, Jimmy Burns, Tia Carrol and JJ Thames. Arnaud Desprez is a French saxophonist. He studied classical saxophone at the Lille Conservatory (France) and later jazz saxophone with Bob Mover (NY). He has performed and recorded with musicians such as Bob Mover, Corey Harris, Eve Cornelious, Raashan Ahmad, Big Jay McNeely, Lloyd Price and others.
Oriol Fontanals is a double bass player from Barcelona specialized in blues, swing, R&B and calypso, well known for being part of bands such as Wax & Boogie Rhythm Combo, Poyo Moya Trio, Víctor Puertas & The Mellow Tones and Big Mama Montse & Early Blues And Jazz Trio.
