Listening to Ain't In No Hurry, it's difficult to imagine Jorma Kaukonen was a founding member of the San Francisco psychedelic band The Jefferson Airplane. The gentle, friendly-sounding finger style picking that supports these 11 songs is nothing like the out-there, hippie music of the man's distant past. However Kaukonen has always been a topnotch guitarist, and his skills have taken him on a widely varying journey, which also included formation of the band Hot Tuna. He's a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and an in-demand guitar teacher.

Ain't In No Hurry is Kaukonen's third full-length for Red House Records. It's a mixture of old songs and Kaukonen originals. The band includes Jack Casady, Barry Mitterhoff, Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams, Myron Hart and Justin Guip. This album probably won't blow you away unless you're a guitarist yourself and fully understand how much skill it took to play these songs. Even so, you'll love it even if you don't completely comprehend its skills. Like the album's title advises, take your time, don't be in a hurry and just enjoy this one. ~Dan McIntosh
