In 1986, the Nighthawks toured in Europe with their good friend John Hammond. First they played the Berlin Jazz Festival, but they were not well received by the crowd. But the next venue in Bremen was an unqualified triumph before a wildly ecstatic blues audience. The band tore the roof down, a performance which undoubtedly resulted in a host of return engagements through the whole of Europe, including the Amsterdam Blues Festival and North Sea Jazz Festival. Moreover, such recognition eventually led to German blues aficionado, Detlev Hogan, also of Bremen, who would subsequently produce the 1986 Live In Europe LP on his Crosscut label in 1987, reissued by Rounder in 1990.
