Kaliopi & the Blues Messengers celebrated their 1st anniversary performing at the St Kilda Blues Festival after officially launching at the Glenmaggie Blues & Roots Festival in 2022 and vibrant audiences throughout the year. Drawing from the great delta blues tradition of powerful blueswomen who made it their own and bluesmen, Kaliopi & the Blues Messengers released their debut single "When the Levee Breaks" in December 2022 with positive reviews, national airplay, and support as they rolled out their 3 track sampler EP, "Highway #9 Studio Sessions" including "Kissing in the Dark" and "Troublin' Blues" in May with the official second original single release on International Womens Day "Troublin Blues" from their debut studio album. Now the much anticipated 10 track debut album "Blues For Minnie" will feature a couple of original gems, a homage to Koko Taylor, and 7 selected Memphis Minnie tracks the band honed in on developing their unique schtick.
Kaliopi & the Blues Messengers have honed in on pre-WW delta blues and arranged the works of Memphis Minnie as a foundation having developed their unique texture using the fretless bass like a sousaphone with flavours of early Dixieland piano, weaving clarinet blues licks, and Delta Blues guitar over swinging groove shuffles topped with Kaliopi's powerfully soulful vocals. The Blues Messengers on "Blues For Minnie" are Connor O'Neil & Chris Schurmann (bass & double bass); Lisette Payet (piano, organ, backing vocals); Tony Wheeler & Nick Pearce (clarinet); Les Oldman (drums, percussion, backing vocals) and Kaliopi Stavropoulos (vocals, guitar).
