Collectables' Best of Vee-Jay Blues is a five-CD box set combining the previously issued single discs from that series. While Vee Jay was initially known as a doo wop and gospel label, the electric blues they recorded in the late '50s and early '60s gave the legendary Chess Records serious competition. Each disc contains 20 tracks, including hits of the era by Billy Boy Arnold ("I Wish You Would"), John Lee Hooker ("Boom Boom"), and Jimmy Reed ("Bright Lights, Big City"). The classic material is combined with more obscure, but no less enjoyable, tracks by Morris Pejoe, Joe Buckner, Camille Howard, and Lee Diamond. /Al Campbell, AllMusic
